Sad news. Joojoo is gone. She died on the way to San Antonio today. She took her last breath right as I turned on the road to the vet. She was in my lap the whole hour long ride. I was going to see if there was anything else we could do for her because she seemed to be deteriorating quickly.

I sat in the parking lot and bawled for about half an hour. My husband left work to meet me at the vet for support. We asked the vet to do a necropsy this afternoon. After he completed the exam, he called and said that she definitely wasn't dehydrated. But that all her organs indicated her death was due to old age. He said her organs were like that of a 8-10 year old glider: enlarged heart, shrunken kidneys, her lungs were full of fluid, fluid in the chest cavity area, (caused by the heart condition). He listed many more indications that her death was due to old age. Said some gliders age differently. I can't remember all of other specifics he gave me. He said nobody could have prevented her death (I think he said that for my benefit). He also said she may have just had a bad heart. He didn't see any tumors or anything else in there.

I still don't know anything certain about that wound. Where it came from. Or if it had anything to do with her condition. Perhaps just a coincidence. Or maybe she did it to herself because she felt so bad. I guess I'll never know.

I'm so sad she's gone. I hope she knows how much I loved her. Now the guilt is setting in. I should have played with her more this year...I shouldn't have been so busy with work...I should have taken her in for an annual exam...

Wish I could turn off these thoughts and tears.

Anna ..............I did not see this sad update until now..................MaryH just told me on the phone ................I am so very sorry hun. You can not beat yourself up over any of this...........................whether we like it or not everything happens the way its supposed to.
When you said CHF (congestive heart failure) I was certain it was a terminal diagnosis but wanted you to call mary just in case something could be done that I was not aware of besides the obvious (Lasix). I am a nurse so I know a little about it in people but for a glider to be diagnosed with it.............................................

Anna, you did everything you could. Don't beat yourself up as a bad glider owner. I don't think the vet said that for your benefit, I think he spoke truth. I'm sorry you lost her, we can all tell how much she was loved. hug2

cry cry I'm so sorry about your baby girl cry
This is so scary. My willow is around 6. I got her when she was 3 from someone that pretty much ignored her and she wasn't on a proven diet. I'm so sorry this happened to you and her.

I know exactly how you feel...my Glider Cessna passed away last month, and I still beat myself up over things that I think I should have known about or done differently. *hugs* I do think that Gliders age differently, just like people. It's never easy. You did the best you could.
