Mary, I hope little Roo will be okay worried You've gotten lots of great advice already and since Giardia is one thing I've not had to deal with (thank Goodness!) I can't add to the advice, but... Know that my thoughts & prayers are with you hug2 hug2 hug2

She has not moved all night. She will not accept anything. Will be heading down to the vet as soon as I get the kids on the bus. I am very worried. She has a strange look in her eyes. I tried to palpate her belly gently, and I 'thought' I felt a big lump. I will post as soon as I get back. Please keep those prayers coming. Thank you. I know when they did her last fecal, they actually sent it out, I believe. I will find out for sure. My head is spinning. I just finally got my dogs problem under control. I am supposed to go for an MRI on my neck (been having bad issues with it again), but I have to get her taken care of first.

She just came out of the house, is climbing around, drank a bunch of water. Her bottom is crusty. I just want time to move faster so I can get her there!! Thanks guys. She still looks 'off'. Not a lethargic 'I don't feel good' look, but more of a distant stare, if that makes sense. That scares me more than anything. Her tent test is still good, so at least that is good. (She has so much loose skin from loosing weight, she is easy to 'tent'.) Keep the prayers coming.

Well, my vet is out for the rest of the week, a personal issue, and won't be in until Monday. The vet there today does not see exotics at all. I have an appt. for 4:30 tomorrow with the other exotic vet. Called a few other places, including the vet that used to see them....no go. I just got back from getting supplies, trying to get something into her. She did eat a little hawaiin delight this morning (better than nothing) and is drinking. I picked up some apple pedialyte (she hates the fruit one I had). Going to take them out and clean the heck out of the cage, and all that is in it. Petey is already stressing, he has pulled all his fur on his head. He won't leave her side, he puts is head over her and won't move. Her tent test this morning was ok, will redo it shortly. Please keep those prayers coming.

I just got some pedialyte in her. It is hard to tell on her when you 'tent' her, she has so much loose skin from all the weight she lost over the last year. I tried to get her to eat pumpkin, no go. Same with yogurt (of course, Petey helped himself to both!) She is peeing all over herself, so I keep trying to clean her (which she is getting pretty po'd about. She actually bit me and held on this morning....but at least she is fighting, so thats good.)

When this is all said and done (and she is BETTER), I need to try to work to get the laws changed. Its hard enough to find a vet that can work with these babies......sigh.

I'll post an update on her later. Off to go clean a cage!

Get x-rays. I had a guinea pig that they treated his symptoms (dehydration, not eating, loose poop) and he ended up with a tumor. Not trying to scare you, but even my hubby, who is a vet, says that vets never do enough diagnostics - always want to treat symptoms. Please udate us.

I am going to have an ultrasound/xray done to make sure. Ever since my rottie, Jake, got bone cancer, I now check all my critters to know what is 'normal feeling' for them. That way, I can pick up on things that pop up. I do feel a small lump, just above where her bladder is that I never felt before, so I am very worried.

Thank you. I just put her and Petey back in their cage. I had given her some pedialyte first. I just offered her some more of the hawaiin delight (since she ate that earlier) and she ate a little more of it. Not much, but at least something. I just want to make sure she does not get dehydrated, which so far, she isn't (based on tent test). She climbed all over the cage (I washed and bleached the whole cage and now all that is in it is their wheel, one regular pouch and the big pouch on the bottom they have been in today.) So it is good to see her moving around. Keep the prayers going.

I had to fight with a 'regular' vet to do a smear for the gliders when my vet was out of town once...it went something like, "So are you telling me that you don't know how to do a smear? Because I'm pretty sure, glider or dog, the process is the same." Yeah, she ended up doing it, but I know how you feel. Sometimes they hear exotic and just stop thinking right then and there. shakehead

I really hope it is something easily treatable and hope they can figure it out tomorrow. You are all in my thoughts and prayers, Mary. hug2

I don't think it is the 'smear' part, it is anything past that (dosing meds, giving an xray, as they have to be put under to do so). Right now, she seems to be holding her own. I am concerned about her kidneys, though. Her urine is very strong smelling (not the smell of a UTI, been there before). It is a hard smell to describe. Which means most likely there is lots of protein in it. Don't know if it is the same for gliders, but when my dog had kidney issues (from chemo for bone cancer) that is what they were watching for (protein loss in the urine). And when your kidneys are not working properly, your BUN and Creatinine usually elevate, which in turn makes you very sick, thus not wanting to eat. Combine this with the lump I feel......you can see why I have reason to very concerned (you know when you are actually hoping it IS Giardia, then your mind is in a bad place.) I have been through Giardia (in a dog) before, and know it isn't a walk in the park, but will take that over some other things I am fearing right now.......

Thanks Gretchen.

What you are describing sounds EXACTLY like Giardia. I pray that is all it is too.

I hate hearing about vets who turn down worried pet owners...Its there job! shakehead

I really hope your Roo is ok! I too am hoping its Giardia, rather then something else...Really, I hope its nothing.

Just kepe your head up, your doing a great job taking care of them! I know nothing of Giardia, or much else in gliders for that matter...But I hope Roo will be ok. Keeping her in my thoughts!

Thanks guys. She is the same, no worse, but no better. She still will not eat, am forcing the pedialyte into her. Still her tent test looks good. She is climbing around her cage with no problem, so that is good. I just want tomorrow to be here. I saw her 'trying to go' and she huff-huffed. But with not eating, she is not pooping now. She is still peeing. I appreciate the prayers and good thoughts (yet again, we can really use them.) Petey will not leave her side, and he sleeps with his head over her body. I literally have to pry his hands open to get her away from him to give her pedialyte. He holds on for dear life. It is so sad, thinking how he would be if we lose her......I can't even bear the thought. I will post an update in the morning. I am going to pull the kids out of school early and just head down there. That way if she needs sub q's, they can get started on that. Petey will be going as well.

Mary, you said the lump is right above her bladder, right? Is it hard? Or just there? Could it maybe be her uterus?

It feels hard to me, not really squishy. That is what has me worried. She was out this morning, drank some water. Still will not take food. Tent test still good. I am pulling the kids out of school early and heading down early, that way if they feel she needs fluids (may have them give them just in case...does anyone know if it is ok to put vit. B12 in with their ringers solution to try to stimulate appetite? Did this with my dog. I think it was B12 or 6.) Her eyes look better this morning. Should I seperate her to try to get a stool sample? With her and Petey in the cage together, that is the only way. But I hate to stress them any more. Poor Petey's head is bald from stress grooming. He even started grooming her head! I am just glad today is here! I will post an update later. Thanks guys.

Mary, it is okay for the vet to add the Vitamin B-Complex to the sub-q solution in order to help stimulate appetite. Dr. Culver did this for little Cosmos (Josefine's) glider when he was so ill. It did seem to help some wink

Thanks Suz. I will call you later. I did it with Jake, my rottie, when he was so sick from the chemo. Anything that could help. She still seems to have good energy (well, all she is doing is sleeping, but when she does come out and moves around). Just glad today is here........I will post when I get home. Leaving around 12:30. Do you think I should seperate them or just leave them together? I have not seen her poo in over 24 hours, but with not eating, not really expecting to see that. I think I will have them do an xray (and correct me, but do they HAVE to sedate for an xray), and as long as that looks good, get the Flagyl for both of them for at least 10 days (does that sound right?) Anything else I need to do? (If they can get a sample, will also have both a urinalysis and a smear). Thanks guys. I just want her better. Oh, and should I get her any pain meds?
