I just finished making them a place to sleep if he will sleep in it that is. I took one of those big pretzel boxes and I left the lid on, but I cut a big huge square in the top of it, big enough for a VHS tape and I cut two holes in each end, took fleece and tied through the ends and tied that onto two ramps and put fleece down in the box. Maybe that will work. They have been checking it out, but aren't sure about it. I'm thinking that this might work.

When our boys were neutered (5 so far), our vet did NOT remove the poms nor did she use any stitches or glue. From the moment they came out of surgery, you couldn't tell they had been neutered. We never needed an e-collar. I did give them Torb for the first 24 hours although she said it probably wasn't necessary. She gave in because I'm such a worry wart. I got the antibiotics to bring home just in case.

Our vet does laser neutering, poms on, no stitches or glue, no bleeding, no nothing. Our boys still look like they did down there, just no bald spot, smell or in one case..a bad attitude. LOL Within 24 hours, they were all back to normal. Normal meaning they weren't loopy from the Torb anymore. lol

Aww, Thanks Sugar. I'm trying to be, but I feel like Mommy Dearest, with him just sitting there at the bottom of the cage looking between the bars with those sad puppy dog eyes. I have been feeding him with a spoon, he does good. Spoiled, but good.

You're doing a great job! Can you put the pouch in the box, maybe lay it on its side so Greta can easily crawl in it if she wants, and maybe it'll be close enough to Gizmo that he'll be happy? Or maybe the scent of the pouch in the pretzel box will be enough of a comfort to her and she'll sleep in the box with Gizmo?

I've no experience with having the poms removed; both my boys have their poms, and like SugarBlossoms, didn't need the pain meds. I got them anyway, just in case, and gave a dose, just in case. I think that was more for me than each of them, though.

Okay, I just went in there to check on them like I have 9796969 times today and guess who is in the box? BOTH of them! Gizmo is sound asleep(bless his heart) and Greta is sitting there right beside him looking around. He has been up literally ALL day long. She almost looks like she's guarding him. I had to sneak, but I watched her, and she would run and get a bite of fruit and then run back to the box and then to veggies and then to the BML. I'm glad he's sleeping, but he's eat very good. I have fed him with a spoon about 4 times, but where can I find those little bird feeders with the troughs like Linda showed me today?

Poor boy is worn out.

The bird feeders you can get at walmart or any pet store. They aren't expensive, usually in a pack of 2 for $1.79?

Alright, in for a morning update. I started to bed last night and I fed him again and cleaned him up and I offered him some water in a syringe which he did take a little bit of.

He tried for a minute to run in his wheel, but that didn't last too long.

I will be picking him up some bird feeders for him to eat, but I think he might be enjoying that one on one treatment and being fed by hand .

He's eating REALLY good though, but it's that darn collar, he gets food all down in it, but gets upset with me whenever I take a Q Tip and clean out from around his neck, but I don't want that stuff stuck in his fur and I know he doesn't like to feel dirty. Is that alright if I clean him up?
Greta takes care of the rest, she grooms him. I did watch her very closely last night, but she never bothered his site. For that I am Thankful, because she stresses to the max whenever he is not around, she just paces the cage.

Should I try to take that collar off him maybe tomorrow and see how he does with, because I know he probably wants to clean his little face off or should I wait until saturday? I think I can feel a little bit of glue on the outside or maybe it's just a rough spot from the surgery? I don't know, but I'm afraid he will start messing with that.

ONLY under close supervision, I would take the collar off today and let him have a break from it to groom himself. Just make sure he doesn't start to chew at his incission.

Also...don't take the collar off unless you know you can get it back on if needed.


It is absolutely alright for you to clean him up a bit. I'm sure, although he may not act like it, that he appreciates it.

Okay, back again. I took his ecollar off and let him groom himself and eat "normally" for a little while about 2 minutes until he started after his incision and making a "crabbing" noise at it, so I grabbed him out and and put the collar back on. I gave him his medicine and he's okay now. I don't know what to do, because I can feel a little bit of the glue on his skin, so do I just take the collar off for a little bit each night and let him act normal until he starts messing with it or what? The glue eventually just falls off right?

The glue will evetually fall off. I would just leave him in his e-collar for a couple of weeks. There are people here with way more experience than me who can help you with this, but the short answer is prepare for more time in the collar.

sounds to me like you are on top of things, thank goodness, if you are feeling scared I would not hesitate to call T(Dancing) or any of the others in the SM team. They are very experienced and when I had trouble with Snuk it helped just to speak with people who knew and could help me stay calm.

I was just trying to give him a break, because I know that thing has to be irritating. I feel so sorry for him. I guess I could give him a break every once in a while, but I would watch him very carefully, as in not even leave the room. I guess that would be okay?

Linda~ Well, he seems to be doing a little bit better with it. He is (by no means) happy with it, he just lays in his box and looks at me. He doesn't fight with it near as much as he did.

Based on what you have posted... I would NOT leave him out of the collar AT ALL unless you are right there to stop him from hurting himself. Also, do not take him out of the collar unless the pain meds are fairly fresh into him (within an hour or so of giving him his meds).

Do you sew? I'm not computer savvy enough to put a pic on here but if you pm me your email address i'll take a pic of the tent thing I made for my Stimpy. He was neutered on Wednesday and is quite comfy in it-or atleast as much as he can be. It's quite large and open on both ends so I can see him at all times but he also gets that protection from the sides meeting at the top. All it took was some fleece and I used that plastic needle work canvas to give the sides and bottom some extra stability yet it's flexible enough that it doesn't give him any extra leverage when trying to get his collar off.

Teresa~ I did stay right there with him last night just incase that did happen, which it did so I grabbed him out so fast his poor little head was probably swimming. I actually did a pretty good job at getting it right back on him. I'm glad(in a way) he got to groom himself for at least a minute.

Will Giz being in an ecollar affect him being able to take care of the baby? Will he be hostile toward it? Just curious.


Is there anything I can put in his food to kind of "water" it down a bit in those bird feeders, which by the way I found. I make them veggie relish and fruit smoothies, because they prefer it that way, but is there anything I can do to help?

I have been letting him eat out of those bird feeders while I'm asleep and then I spoon feed every 30 minutes or so while I'm awake and he's up. I have seen him drink and eat, so I think he's getting enough.

You can add water. That will be the best thing. Or pedialyte if you're concerned about his hydration.
