Thank you! I've been in contact with a few people through the Glider Ads already! Thanks so much for that tip. Now we're just praying one will come through. I hear my fuzzbutt going wild in her wheel upstairs, so I'm going to play with Syd for a bit while she's good and awake, then I'm hitting the bed myself Again, thanks for the help and keep your fingers crossed that we'll we welcoming home a baby boy suggie SOON.

Hi all! I don't think I ever posted to this forum yet. I'm also in Northern VA! Looking forward to meeting y'all at the SGGA! (yes, I said "y'all." It's hard to shake my Warrenton country roots, right Chaungo?)

Wow I had no idea there were so many of us in VA! I am in Hampton VA and proud mamma to 2 lil girl suggies Tia and Pixie and possibly more soon. We also have in my household:
6 Cockatiels
4 cats
2 dogs
1 Betta Fish
and others that come and go, as my family is known as the "white knight family for animals", my mom and I adopt or at least find homes for animals that people abandon or can't take care of. Its crazy around here at times, but always lots of fun and love!

Hi GliderJohn!

I am in Arlington and am also looking at getting gliders. I found two places in our area that have/had them for sale: www.sugargliderbabies.com and http://www.hoobly.com/11996/2477/0/

I am not sure if the latter is a licensed breeder or only has a couple of breeding gliders...

All the best with your new friends!

Just found out that my apartment building won't allow gliders and won't be able to move anytime soon.

The next best thing would be to help gliders or glider owners, so if anybody wants a hand cleaning cages, making toys, etc... let me know! I'll notice any pm's faster than a reply to this thread...

Hi, Chaungo1, I'm in Warrenton, too. Do you still have your sugar glider? I have 11 now. I live off Dumfries Road, Rt. 605 in the "Marstella Estates" development.

Hi, y'all. I'm new here. I've lived in Roanoke, Glade Hill, Fairfax, and other places in Good ol' Virginia. Now, I live in Warrenton (since 2002). I'm a licensed wildlife rehabber and my favorite animal to rehab is the squirrel. Right now, I have 3 "wintering over" to be released in the spring. They were orphans from a late ending baby season.

We are an animal loving family. All our animal family were adopted as foundlings or from people who no longer could care for them. We have 2 dogs, 8 cats, and 11 sugar gliders.

The sugar gliders are from 3 different families. One group consists of Papa Bear, Mama Bear and Baby (girl) Bear. Another is a set of twin brothers, Furby and Gizmo. And another is Diamond Dad, Mama Charley, and Radimon. During the summer, Charley had twins whom I haven't named, yet. And just this morning, I found a new baby on the floor, cold and hissing for mom. I came here to find out how to care for it. I had tried to get Mama Charley to take it back. She groomed it a bit but, tossed it back out of the pouch. Right after I found him on the bottom of the cage, hissing for her again, I found the remains of his twin so decided for his safety, to try to raise him myself until he can fend for himself so he doesn't meet the same end as his sibling. (Obviously, he's too young to tell what sex he is, so I'm just using "he" for now.)

Fortunately, as a rehabber, I have the supplies on hand to feed him and know about warmth and all that. This is a brand new experience though so I'll happily take all advice offered by anyone with experience with hand feeding sugar babies.

This baby is fully furred, except for tummy. His tummy was empty, but it was totally full after I fed him (and managed to get the tiny baby to feed without force or coaxing--it was really ready to eat something, and he didn't aspirate once!). He has teeth already but, his eyes are still sealed shut. His ears are fully furred and appear open. He has great grip, too, and is fast on his little feet. I'm feeling so guilty about his sibling though. I had no idea Mama Charley was ready for new babies already, but her new twins are almost adult size.

Anyway, this new baby is "Curious George" (unless it's a she, then it's Curious Georgette) since it managed to escape the fate of its twin by somehow getting out of the cage. (I'm just grateful that neither dog, nor any cats found it before me!!!)

Okay, that's where I'm at with my sugar babies. What started out as a pair of twin boys has grown and grown. I'd almost consider giving some to new homes but, am very cautious about giving our fur family away because we spoil everything that lives with us and I'd like to ensure that they go to good, loving, permanent families.

UPDATE--I FAILED!!!
I failed the little baby. I went to check on it and it's dead. No clue what I did wrong. Maybe I did aspirate it without knowing it--the baby's so small. It doesn't have any visible injuries on it. The fall from the table that holds the cage couldn't have been good for it though. I'm so sorry for this loss. The only good thing is that it didn't die cold, or by the same way as its sibling. I'm sorry y'all.--RM

Aww that is very sad!! You did what you could! Take comfort in the fact that you did save him from the same fate as his twin. Its hard to remember sometimes but suggies are wild animals and nature sometimes works in mysterious ways. Thanks for trying and keep your head up!!

Thank you, Carrie. I'll be studying up on the care of such tiny sugar babies in the future so I'll be better prepared if there's a next time. He was so precious though and to get to hold him in my hands was amazing. I've acutally had success raising baby squirrels whose eyes are still sealed shut (without even a hint that they have eyes) and their ears still sealed to their heads and no fur--strange looking little creatures. I've raised similar cottontails and released them successfully, too, so I thought maybe I had a chance with this little one. I have to admit to being ill-prepared for my find though so hastily researched while I kept him warm. I'm going to order some wombaroo milk replacer (and that will keep this from happening again--as long as I have it on hand, I won't ever need it, I'm sure!!). But, you're right, it's helpful knowing he was saved from the same fate as his twin.

I am partial to twins as I have identical twin sons who're 25--human or animal--twins are interesting creatures. :-)

Thanks so much for your note. Happy Holidays to you and yours.

Happy Holidays to you too!! Twins are very cool!! I am looking right now for another suggie for a cage mate for my baby I already have. They are addicting. Its funny, ever since I got my suggie my whole life has changed. Bedtimes, what i wear--she likes tighter shirts so she doesnt have to hold on all day long when she sleeps on me!, what i eat and at what time, all my money goes to toys for her! i love every bit of it though! She is amazing and i can't wait to get another one. Remember...we learn from our mistakes. I do not think you made a mistake but dont beat yourself up because like you said earlier now you know what you need and you will have it for next time. Thats the best and most responsible thing you can do. Good luck, Happy Holidays, and Happy New Year!! (2007 already?????)

Hey all! I'm in Va. Beach smile

I'm mom to 4 furbabies, including Lucy the suggie smile and than there is Lego and Yuffie, the super-pups and Baci the kitten.

I'm currently on the hunt for another suggie to add into the mix because Lucy needs a cage mate. I'd prefer a female, and just about any color would be fine.

Hello everyone.

I live in Alexandria with my two babies; Lucy (8 yrs) and Jeremy (3 yrs). Both ages are approximate; they're rescues that I recently acquired. And they've very quickly become a HUGE passion.
