I have only one sugar glider and I spend quality time with him every day and night. Can he develop poor health if he doesn't have a buddy? I really do everything I can to keep him happy and healthy. I know that they do much better in groups, but circumstances don't allow me to buy him a friend frown . This is my first sugar glider, I've had him only for two weeks now.

Welcome to Glider Central!
It's awesome that you came here to learn about what is best for your glider!
I know we might like to think we can be all the companionship that our gliders need, but we really can't. Imagine you are in a strange land with other creatures who are very nice to you and spend lots of time with you, but they don't speak your language so you can never communicate in your own language. You try to communicate as best you can, but it just isn't quite right. The other creatures are very big and can't fit into your house (cage) or snuggle up with you in your bed (pouch). The big creatures try their best to give you everything you need, but you will always be a bit lonely for a friend like you, who could share your cage and be your buddy to snuggle up with and communicate with.
I know there are a few gliders out there who need to be a single glider, but that't pretty rare. It really would be best to give your glider a cagemate. There is a possibility that your glider will become depressed if he is kept alone.
I have 12 gliders and all of them enjoy having cagemates.

I don't klnow your situation, but there are always gliders in need of good homes and they are usually available to a good home for a reasonably low cost. Or you could start saving up your money to buy a cagemate.

Hi KatieBodn! wave Welcome to GliderCentral.

I've had a lone glider ( my first) for over a year, he was really happy and healthy. I think with the amount of love he receives, he would have been happy for the rest of his life! He was with me all day and 3/4 of the night. Everywhere I went, he went with.

Having said this, it was only when I rescued my first glider, nourished him to good health, and introduced him to my lone glider (very difficult introduction), that I realized how they love a companion of their own species.

Thank you both smile. And my problem is not money.. it would be very easy to solve. I'll be doing my best taking care of my sweetie and later when I can, I'll definitely get him a little buddy =).

Welcome to GC! Where in Michigan are you? I'm in the middle of the mitten! wave I would get a buddy as soon as you can. Only because you can only do so much with them and can't get in the cage to play or cuddle. Lone gliders can do well with alot of your attention, a good diet and lots of stimulating toys.

I live in Rochester. I'm taking advise from all of you and I will get him a friend as soon as I can smile. Till then I really hope he'll be fine. I feed him balanced diet, he has a lot of interactive toys and tent we play in, and I clean his cage every day so he's nice and comfy laugh. He's with me almost all day long and he's most playful early in the morning so I wake up then and we play. Also during the night. Thank you all thanks

sounds good except for the daily cleaning lol! Not necessary to clean every day and will cause him to "mark" his territory more. You should be able to do a good clean up every few days of the bottom tray and change every thing out weekly and he will be good!
