I do not feed any honey to my gliders at all. The only sweets they get are the fruits they eat, yogurt twice a week and occasionally yogies (yogies are very rare treats).

Acacia Gum, our spray-dried form (powdered) is a very processed/refined product! Dont be fooled by it being available in the wild and also in a package. The process of taking the unrefined sap and turning it into the powder everyone uses requires several steps, heating several times, removing of "impurities", etc. Its not the same substsance once complete that gliders would be feeding on in the wild, and certainly not even the same species of Acacia...

Acacia gum in powder form (Acacia senegal and Acacia seyal are the only two used for the powder we buy) is composed of 95% polysaccharides and 1 to 2% proteins. The sugars that make it up are mainly Galactose and Arabinose, but also a tiny bit of Rhamnose and Glucuronic acids. It is a huge source of fiber as well.

Do a search on Colloides Naturels International. They have the larges processing plant for Acacia gum and explain it VERY well and in detail all aspects of the gum process.

My comment was that I wouldn't expect any kind of sap product to taste sweet. I would expect it to taste nasty. But - that doesn't mean the gliders wouldn't like it.

Replacing Sap with Syrup is not an even exchange.

I would agree with you there. "Syrup" would be IMO too condensed to feed to gliders without proper analysis in a particular diet. Its very high in sugar/carbs/especially calcium.

What I meant by quoting you was not that you were wrong, but that the gum we offer is indeed very processed.

Your correct about the "sweetness" factor. A look at just that when considering the types of sugars will tell us that fructose (the main sugar in honey) is in fact the "sweetest" sugar.
