I took some video of Sassy taking licky treats last night. Not good videos as the lighting was poor but definately clear enough. It is hard to see my finger/hand (due to the darkness) but it is my finger she is licking the yogurt off of.

My girls have been doing wonderfully!!! Pae is being a sweetie - I can take her out of the pouch easily and Emma is letting me bug her lots and seems happy about it.

They earned their wheel back - only took it out because it was a Wodent Wheel. I put it back in as Pae seemed restless early this morning. If they start hiding in it then I'll have to see about getting a different kind of wheel but I think it will be ok, they are really liking the (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets and have been very calm in it.

As for my update... S&D have become a little more antisocial since their daughter was pulled for good. She is now 9 weeks old.

The other 4 are still doing well and greeting me every night.

The other news is my little leu Blanco is finally home and he isn't PP at all. He is such a sweet little baby.

I've been following this thread and decided to try the (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets also. My babies have been in their new pouch for about 6 days now and I can't believe the difference it's made for all three of them.

The first two, Bonnie & Clyde, had been rarely handled in their last home and had gotten very fearful, and my newest one Peek-A-Boo, from what I can tell, had pretty much been left in a cage for most of the past two years so she was extremely fearful and skittish. All three are now rushing to see what I'm up to whenever I come up to their home, and they're letting me pet them and are climbing all over my hands and arms without fear. I can't believe how quickly this made a difference and all without hurting or scaring them. Too cool!

I do have a couple of questions though. I've read that several of you are giving straws with yogurt or pudding in them. Can you tell me more about the straws? Are we talking full length straws or are they being cut up in to shorter lengths?

sounds like you are doing awesome!!!!

with the straws it depends on where exactly you are
the straws are cut to 3 inch lengths, and most of the time are used at the beginning to get them to take lickys from the hands and fingers without getting bit,

then after they do start to take licky from the hands they are used as "lures" to help with bigger trust issues, getting on your arm etc..

the straws at that point never leave our possession.

at the end of each day we "reward them, for them having such a great day, by just giving them the straw section. what we give them at the end of the day is not the same lickys we offer during the day. it is "special" treat

Ranger and Nika are doing well. Nika does not crab in a bonding pouch at all unless I reach in there and make her feel cornered (did that by accident...now I'm turning the pouch sideways when I reach in there so that she isn't so nervous). I can reach in with Ranger no problem. I can put my hand in there with them and they will sleep with it. Ranger comes in and out of the bonding pouch as he pleases, but does not jump off me. He is still a little hesitant to go to other people. He will sniff them and then decide whether or not he wants to go with them. If he gets on them and then I can see that he's starting to get nervous I'll put my hand up to him and he will get on me and go into my hood or back into the pouch. It's so cool

I'm really excited because I wanted to be able to carry Nika and Ranger at the WAGG and it looks like I will be able to do that with no (or at least minimal lol) problems!

As for Sassy being a biter...she drew blood on her other mom the day I brought her home. She has never bit me or my hubby though so I don't know. I keep trying to get her previous owner to agree she is sweet but it is going to take a face to face meeting to convince her. My gain...I have a sweet little girl here.

So today I took Shadow and the girls in for a check up at the vet. I warned the vet they may not be tame with him and I wasn't sure how it would go. They behaved amazingly well, they were soooo good. (Even tho I clipped their nails b4 we went lol) They let him hold them and didn't squirm much, and he petted Shadow no problem while I held him.

So... PLAYTIME!

It went sooo well. Emma LOVED climbing up and down my legs... Is that ok? I know that I shouldn't let them below my waist while in the house... but during playtime does it matter?

anyways... they did very well! Emma and Pae discovered the over-the-door towel rack and thought that that was a GREAT way to get to the top of the door jam... very cute.

They were happy little girls, running all over me! Emma was nervous at first, with the big "I don't know this mom" look in her eyes but softened up when I help my hand up to her and instead of her coming to my hand, Pae climbed up my arm to my hand and greeted Emma!!! Was SOOOO cute!!! So after that, the girls would come to my hand when it was offered.

I love the progress we've made!!! Emma didn't try to nip me once! NOT EVEN ONCE!

Baby steps... That is what I have been telling myself since I brought home Annie, Apollo, Zoey and Zeus. Once we got our pouch in the cage I knew it was up to me. So, night after night I have zipped my hand into the rept at dinner time. I have been less worried about them escaping, which has happened. I relish the fact that EVERY night I am greeted by 3-4 babies who have never known real love and care. (Granted they did with Karen but her goal was not to bond with them, it was to get them ready for a forever home.)

So, tonight we had a MAJOR sucess. Apollo is the curious one. I often wonder if his curiosity is what caused him to lose part of his tail... I put their food in, checked their water bottle and Apollo came and sat on my hand. Then... HE WALKED UP MY ARM! He explored me for a bit but I didn't stand still enough for him to "lock on" to anything to keep him from jumping off me. He started to walk down my torso and then my legs. I gently placed my arms in front of his path to redirect him back up to my arms and shoulders. We did this several times. Then, I placed my hand in the rept and he went back in.

My girls have officially moved out of the "special" pouch I purchased and into new stylish digs that Mommy made! After giving them some time this evening to check out the new cage items, I took out the blankies and snapped a few pics while offering bribes. (Mealies. LOL) Donna seems so content in her new pouch and stays right there and listens to me talk to her, not a bit afraid! I can reach in and pet Donna without her being closed in and being scared of being approached from above, yet she still has the security of a well made pouch, if I do say so myself!

I have a new boy glider! I'm very excited about it! It's tormenting for poor Emma because she wants sooo badly to get to him!

But the girls are doing well. I had a piece of fleece in the pouch for them to curl up under, thought they would be ready. Nope, sure weren't. Emma crabbed at me when she was under it. So I just reached in a pulled it off of her and talked to her for a while. She only crabbed for a second and did stop as soon as she knew it was me (good sign!!! in the past she would just keep crabbing and would lunge etc).

Pae is doing sooo well with hand trust! I can reach into the pouch (and Emma lets me!) and grab her up and give her some snuggles for a second or put her into a pouch and cruise around with her. I am frequently grabbing her up for just a minute and walking around with her on my arms then putting her back in. It's going VERY well! We had her out in the bathroom for a few minutes of playtime with my husband too. It was really cute for me to see that she really is trusting me! She was soooo hesitant to go to him but when I offered my hand while she was on my husband she was quick to return.

So life is good in my home of 3 gliders.

I'm pretty sure I have an update here that trumps every update I've made so far.

This weekend I was at the WAGG. The WAGG was my ultimate goal when I first started talking to Bourbon...I wanted to be able to carry my gliders without them crabbing constantly. I was (& am still) shocked at how well they behaved. Nika fell asleep in my hands, I was able to reach in and scoop either of them out with no problems whatsoever. The most upset Ranger was the whole weekend was when he was with Bourbon (sorry Bourbon lol). It's only fair to mention though that her hands were ice cold and Ranger had just come out of my WARM pocket, and that she was able to make friends with him later.

The most AWESOME thing for me, though, was an activity we all did individually. We put our gliders on a rope hanging in a doorway and tried to get them to glide back to us. Whoever had their glider glide back to them fastest won. I figured...might as well try it. I put Ranger up there, and he was back to me in 35 seconds. 35. He had the 3rd fastest time. Missed second place by one second. I may not have gotten a "prize" for being in first or second place, but the real prize was how AWESOME it was that he came back to me! Some gliders had to be "rescued".

Bourbon has not clearly stated that I am "cut loose" from her services, but I am cutting myself loose (sorry again Bourbon lol). I am SO THRILLED with how much progress we have made. I can honestly say that I know my gliders better than anyone else. Because of that, I think that from here on out what I do with my gliders will have to be from what I know of their behavior, feelings, etc. Don't get me wrong-if I have a question, I WILL be calling Bourbon about it. But for the most part, I think I can take it from here. Thank you SO MUCH Bourbon. I know you want to sort of pass this on, and at first I was like, puh-lease, I so can't do that. But-the more I think about it, the more I think I can. So send 'em my way, let's do it.

That IS the best update I've read so far! HUGE congrats. And yes, it does sound like it is time for you to work with your gliders on your own. Just know, you still have a support system (Bourbon and the rest of us) if you have any questions or issues or best yet, you just want to brag!

Actually its an open TOP pouch! Apparently I missed a postin from one of the desenters, and what I made is very similar to what she uses in leu of the PP pouch, but it really works! Here's pic (FYI... NOT a replacement for the PP pouch! It is my transition pouch for a glider that cannot ever use a traditional sleeping pouch.)

Oooh, I forgot to mention. I moved one of the toys Bourbon had me take out back in with the gliders last night. It was the "tree" (which is really just a fake vine wrapped around a bunch of PVC pipe lol). I was a little worried that Nika would hide in it or sleep in it (she REALLY likes that thing) but when I checked on them this morning they were both sleeping in the pouch

Lol. Things are good around my world.

I got my new boy on Saturday, the girls love him! They are sleeping together now and happy little clams. I get Pae out each night and pack her around with me. Emma got stressed out last weekend, I was pushing her too hard, but have been diligent with my playtime and she's being a sweetie, I just have to move more slowly with her.

My new boy Lenny, is soooo beautiful and sooooooo sweet!

So those are my updates.... lol.

Doing well here. Donna crabs at me every so often when I first approach the cage, but as soon as I lift the blankie off of her and she sees its me and not a hungry monster she chills out. And my best reward of all, even though it doesn't really involve me... Donna has started playing with toys!!!! Specifically the plastic pull rings from milk cartons. It is so cute how she grabs them up and tries to pull them over her head to wear them! I even found Bella with 2 wrapped around her tail yesterday. I don't know if you call that progress, except that Donna will take them from my hand without crabbing. LOL It is just so darn cute to see them playing with stuff after all this time.

BOURBON! I'm so excited right now that I tried to call you but you didn't answer. Alsjdglajsdgdsa SO EXCITED!!!!


So Ranger has been the one moving quickly this whole time, sort of leaving Nika in the dust as far as progress goes. He was getting on my hand when she was still hesitant...it seems like she's been two steps behind him this entire time.

Well today I had them in a bonding pouch, so I reached in (no crabbing) and pulled out whoever I touched first lol, which happened to be Ranger. He didn't look disturbed at all. He rested in my hands while I pet him with a free finger. I stopped petting him, and he started licking me. So cute. He did this for a while, then he looked at me. I asked him "What?" since I didn't know why he was staring at me like that lol. I started petting him again to see if maybe I could get him to go to sleep...but it's pretty evident that that's what he was WAITING for! The second I touched him he tucked his head in and got comfortable. He's already spoiled and knows how to get what he wants lol.

That was cool, but this is REALLY cool. Ranger woke up and crawled back into the pouch, so I let them settle down before reaching in again. This time I felt around until I had Nika and pulled her out. She slept in my hand at the WAGG, but I could tell she was a little nervous when she was in my hand awake. Anyway, today I pulled her out and she looked at me like, You'd better have a darn good reason for waking me up. I started rubbing her, and she DIDN'T fall asleep. She just rested in my hands, completely awake. I even got Mike to take a picture, and she didn't freak. When he took the first one I don't think she was real thrilled, but I didn't feel her tense up or get ready to run or anything. By the second time she was irritated with him, so she buried her head beneath my thumb. I had Mike go away (lol) and she continued to chill there for a while. I was then reminded that I needed to move my laundry, so I showed Nika the pouch, and she looked up at me like "Do you really expect me to go in there?" I had to sort of usher her into the pouch. She didn't want to get off of me. SO COOL!

Ohhhh Kay. I spoke with Bourbon on the phone a little while ago, and I told her I would make a point to post this.

I have 6 gliders as most know. I consider them all to be rescues, but Boomer...maybe... lol

Anyways, none of the guys have been as worse off as Ranger. He was a reputable breeder baby - but the people who had him, went the Pocket Pets route, when they got him a cage mate. Their way of teaching not to bite, is to put your thumb in the glider's mouth. Just shove it on in there. Obviously, this is going to make things worse, because it teaches the glider, that your hand brings pain and fear. His cage mate passed before he came to my home.

You couldn't walk talk or sneeze right in his book. CRAB.

The first week I brought him home, He made a point to crab as loud as he could, then come out to show that hand monster a thing or two. I could not go near that pouch without him, bounding out to try and tear my hand off. I finally broke down. I made a Pouch Protector Pouch. Ranger didn't know what to think of it. Without reading but the first few parts of part one of this thread, I did things how I saw when I 'scanned' through.

I started, by making him a custom cage set that he could not hide under things or from me in. Completely de - scented his whole cage, swapped his wheel with a silent spinner and removed toys that he could hide inside of. There weren't immediate results, but they slowly came over the past month and a half that I have used the "(PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets". First few days, he slept in it, with 2 credit card sized blankies. I didn't bother him too much with petting for the first 2 days, since I wanted him to get used to the idea of me being there talking to him. Third day I started petting the top of his head with a cautious but relaxed hand. I made sure licky treats were on hand, as you know they help with winning a glider over. LoL. I also approached him initially, with knuckles since they are less sensetive than finger TIPS.

With patience through that week of giving him a ton of opened pouch attention, I could pet his head with almost no fear of him getting upset with me. I started with a flat hand on the floor after I knew I could trust him with no lock biting me. (pit bull biting) . I got and still get a few teeth scrapes or "testers" but nothing near like what it WAS before. He has not broken my skin since a few weeks ago. he will now jump on my hand and arm after the tail twitch what is that thing dance. LoL!

As I told Bourbon, i have removed the PP Pouch and swapped out for a normal, until his is clean. He has been in there for 3 days now, and I can reach into the pouch, without my hand becoming Hamburger Meat. I will continue to let him use this one, but if he starts up again, He will have the PP Pouch again. I have let him work into this at his own pace.

Bourbon, once again, I thank you sincerely for this pouch creation.It has helped in ways I could of never imagine it helping.

I think all the credit should go to those in this thread that has tried to teach others!!!!

Hey everyone I know it has been a while since I posted. Jackie went to a great home where a couple was able to work with her everyday and she loved them from first sight. She didnt crab or lunge and the guy was able to hold her and pick her up (no fear). She has now turned into a wonderful glider. I ssaw her last week and she didnt crabs or lunges. She actually came over to me and was running all over me. Houdini is progressing wonderfully. No crabbing or lunging. I cant just put my hand in and pet him yet like Bella but he will come and sit on my shoulder when he comes out of his cage and gets all his energy out. He doesnt run from me anymore. Bella has a baby in pouch. I cant wait for it to come out so I can start to work with it. Joey on the other hand has turned into a complete son of gun. He will crab and lunge and bite. Not only in the (PPP) Perfect Pocket Pets but even if I come near the cage or go to put food in. I am at a loss of what to do. I before he started biting I would take him out and put him in my shirt like Bourbon said to do and he would crab but when I started to hum he would stop. I would sit with him in my shirt for hours or until he wanted to go back in. Now I cant even go near him. I get him in the bonding pouch and he lunges at my hand as soon as he feels it. He has even bit me through it. I dont understand. Houdini is getting better and he is getting worse. Sorry it is so long it has just been long since I have been on due to working two jobs and taking care of the dogs and spending time with the gliders.

I have a young girl that's new to my home. I have 7 gliders total. Everyone has a cage mate. I have 2 pairs and two boys that are cage mates and this single girl.

At what point should i put her in a cage with say...an adult pair? I have her cage next to my "sweetest" pair. I have been introducing them slowly..but, quite honestly, she wants nothing to do with them. When I say, "wants nothing to do with them"..... I mean if she is on my shoulder and I open their cage door and they are out playing...she flies off my shoulder to get away.

I hate that she's alone....but I wonder if she's just better off until she's older.


Any ideas?
