An update here, I had been up all night again last night, keeping Trixie warm in my bra. I had been alternately giving her some Pedialyte and some BML all night long. She seemed to have gained strength from both, and as of right now, she is not as yellow as she had been two days ago, but she is still not pink enough to declare her in good health. She is much more active and alert now than she had been 12 hours ago. However, she still has yellowish-brownish urination, and there has been no solid poop to date.

I made some phone calls in search of more local exotics vets and I just found out there is one more in the metro Milwaukee. He will be in the office on Wednesday, so tomorrow morning when I come home from work, I will make the phone call and try to ask questions before I set up an appointment. This way, I won't waste my time and money. I am keeping my fingers crossed on this one! I hope he will do what I ask of him, unlike the first two vets I saw.

I will keep you updated on any changes.

Hi Jen...email sent with info...Took me a while to track down Dr. Ness (now in private practice yeaaaaaaa). I would just call him...he will talk to you no problem...then go from there. Hope your baby is doing good today.

I have just been in touch with PixTrix. Naturally she is a little shaken right now and has asked me to forward along the results of the vet visit. She was finally able to see Dr. Richard Nye in Westchester. The good news is that the problem appears to be an isolated incident involving only Trixie. Her cage mates are apparently in no danger. The bad news is that Dr. Nye is forced to do a biopsy to determine the cause of the damage to the liver. Now if it is due to cancer or a degenerative condition, then Trixie does not stand much of a chance. If it is due to some type of infection then Trixie may have a 50-50 chance of survival. These results will not be known until at least 9:00 PM eastern.

My prayers go out to the both of you. I hope all turns out okay.

My husband just called Dr. Nye about 10 minutes ago. Trixie is no worse, no better and is resting. The vet will have the results from the bloodwork tomorrow morning at 10. After that, I will post again when I hear from him.

Everyone else, thank you so very much for thinking of us and your prayers. They are greatly appreciated.

UPDATE

Bad news. We just received word from the vet. Trixie is extremely anemic due to liver failure. Basically, her bile ducts in her liver are blocked off so instead of going through her gall bladder and intestinal tract, her bile is backing up into her bloodstream. The diseases of this kind of liver failure are not treatable.

UPDATE

I left shortly after 4 this afternoon to pick up Trixie and bring her home. Sad to say, she died on the way home. The vet said she wasn't doing good but I wanted her with me during her final hours anyway. I tried everything in my power to save her. I am happy that she was with me when she passed, rather than at the clinic.

Jennifer--I am so sorry to here about your little one. I spoke to Marvin on the phone about it and all I could do was pray. Take comfort in the fact that you did everything in your power to save her life. That should bring you some comfort. My deepest sympathies to you and you will remain in my prayers. Jennifer, I am so sorry things had to end this way. Trixie put up a good fight and you were with her all the way. I am greatfull you were able to be with her at the end. She is gone now...but is no longer suffering.
