Note to self--- Do Not Read Updates About Fawkes While Eating Dinner!

That sure brings back memories when my brother broke his jaw and had his mouth wired shut for 6 weeks. The stuff that man put in the blender to suck up a straw could turn even the best cast iron stomach, ewwwwwwwww.

Glad to hear he may be eating some of what your fixing for him.

So, this isn't a GOOD suggestion..but maybe it would be easy for him to eat..=/...What about canned animal food? I know, isnt good at all...But its thick. Maybe it even has some protein in it..Just a thought! Mealworm guts sound like a good idea too. hug2

Thanks guys for all the suggestions - I have tried canned food, the vet gave me a prescription dog food & I tried cat food too, just because I was so desperate for him to eat. He didn't want either...

Last night I had to sub-q him twice. When I took him out for his buffet, he just wanted to sit still & his ears were down. He took a couple licks of ice cream & a couple licks of the Priscilla's mix, then he just sat at the bottom of the cage with his head down. I took him out & did the tent test & he was really dehydrated.

This was the first time I have ever had to sub-Q a glider. The first time I did it, I used the IV line that Dr. Kate gave me, but it dripped so slow that I couldn't get enough in (I don't think) - I couldn't make the "bubbles", no matter how long I left the needle in. The second time I used syringes & he took about 4.5ccs (half in each shoulder).

He was incredibly thirsty - I had saline on my hands from trying to connect the IV tube & he grabbed my hand & started licking it frantically. I filled my hand up with water & he went nuts.

I talked to Bourbon last night & she thinks that it's possible that the angle he has to tilt his head in order to drink from the water bottle may be becoming difficult because of the tumor or enlarged lymph nodes. So, he now has a water bowl too.

The good news - Through all of this, he didn't go into a fit once. His breathing actually sounded quite a bit better to me, even though he was weak last night.

I checked on him every 2-3 hours through the night & he didn't need to be sub-q'd again. He was bright eyed this morning & his tent test was fine, so I decided to leave him at home. He has an appt tomorrow evening for his second depomedrol injection.

Hopefully his new water dish will solve the dehydration issue - I really hope that this isn't an indicator of some new complications heading our way...

Gina, having been through cancer with an animal (although not a glider), I can imagine the fear and pain you are going through. It is not an easy road to travel. I am glad he is better this morning. Someone once said to me 'cancer is an emotional rollarcoaster' and I always felt that was so true. Sending loads of prayer and love your way. Hopefully the shot tomorrow will get that tumor to shrink even more! Keep us posted. (((Gina & Fawkes)))

I think it's time for Fawkes to go to the Bridge.

I came home today to find that he had ripped himself open - it looks like someone took a knife & sliced his side, right between the two tumors.

He also started having the asthma attacks again today, the first since Sunday (I think).

At this point, I feel like his bad times outweigh his good, and I think I'm being selfish.

He's supposed to go in tomorrow for another depomedrol injection. I will take him to Dr. Kate in the morning, so that she can put him on oxygen for the day, then I will go back after work. I want to be there to hold him so he won't be scared.

I will ask Dr. Kate to do a thourough necropsy, with pictures, and any pathology that she feels would be useful, and I will ask that she post it on vet Net.

I don't know what else to say.

Gina, my heart goes out to you tonight. This decision is one of the hardest ever. You will take away his pain and take it into your heart. I am so sorry. You both have fought so hard. It is aptly named 'the beast'. Give Fawkes a gentle nuzzle for me. I will light a candle and say some prayers for the both of you.

Gina, both you and Fawkes have fought so valiantly. I am so very sorry. I wish I could ease the pain that you're feeling. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Tonight I will light a candle for both you & Fawkes and ask the Goddess to help you both.

Blessed be.

Gina, your love for Fawkes outshines the sun. He knows how much you love him. If it helps at all, I would do exactly as you at this point. Yes, it's one of the hardest things you will ever do in your life, but if he is suffering, it may be time.

I will pray for a miracle for him. Know that you've done everything in and above your power to help him. I'm sorry this is happening. I've never met Fawkes but I do love him dearly.

Give him extra kisses from us please.

An eternity of love and HUGS for you both.

cry Oh no! Are you sure he did it to himself? When my kittys foot got all swollen, it split open (from the swelling) frown

He kept seeming like he'd get better. This is a tough choice...It's good that you don't want to be selfish and keep him just for your own sake..But it's still going to be a very hard choice to make. You know him better then any of us...I know we don't all see what is going on, so don't know everything. If you feel he is not living a happy life, then...it may be time. frown Are you going to ask your vets advice first, or has she advised it already?

I'm so sorry...I know you wouldnt want to see him suffer, so if he's doing so badly...maybe it would be best hun. hug2 hug2 hug2 Just make sure you are sure beforehand.

Gina, I can barely see what I'm typing for my tears, but my fingers know their way around the keyboard quite well.

I wish you both peace...in whatever form it comes...because you know both already know love. Fawkes knows how much you love him, and that love will never end between you! He'll always be with you in your heart, and he's so lucky to have you for a mom.

I'm so sorry. You and Fawkes have fought for life, but at some point it's just time to let go. Only you and Fawkes know when that is. You made the toughest choice ever, but I feel you've made the right one. I know how hard it is.

You know, it really isn't necessary to have the necropsy done, because we all already know why he is ill and dying. If it would give you more peace, bury him in a special place in your yard. It would not be being selfish to do that.

Gina, I know this is one of THE hardest things to ever have to do, but I would like to thank you for thinking of him before anything else. You have went above and beyond what most would ever be able to do. The love for him you have shown and are about to show, is just larger and more than any simple words could ever say.

You know I am here if you need to talk, cry, scream, or just need someone to sit quietly with you.

Tell Fawkes to have fun with all the others that will be there waiting for him to come play. Just think of the homecoming party they are up there preparing for him.

Both of you gave it your all.

Prayers go out for you that you find comfort and peace. Prayers go out to Fawkes that he is in no pain.

Oh Gina...I swear I literally felt my heart break when I read your post...I do not even have words to tell you how much I hope you find peace after such a valient and courageous battle. Having had to let an animal pass over to the other side myself once after a lengthy illness...I know how difficult a decision this is for you. I swear if I wasn't forced into oncall duty, I'd be making an all night road trip to be with you so you don't have to do this alone. Please know that I and so many others of us are with you and Fawkes, and please call me 361.389.3840 if you need anything at all, even if it's just to cry girl...I'm here. Please give Fawkes a kiss for me, and tell him I appreciate him being one of my partners in my battle against Cancer!

I'm so sorry... hug2 heart hug2

Fawkes will be watching over you and when you feel the breeze or a drop of rain you will now that he is kissing you. You have been a wonderful mother, and to come to this decision is the hardest a mother has to make, but he won't hurt. It will hurt you, but you have been in guilt and despair, and that is not good for you either. You have done everything in your power to help him and he knows it. My thought and prayers are with you. hug2

Oh gina I am sorry you are going through this. I know it hurts but look in his eyes I sure he will tell you it is his time. I will say a special prayer tonight for you and fawkes. I will ask for my Ariel to wait for him and greet him as he makes the journey. It is so hard to let them go but remember you did more than most would and you have fought a galante fight. Hugs and kisses to both of you we are thinking of you both.
