I can't believe how severely this little accident has hurt Calypso! The stress of being trapped must have messed her right up.
Can't wait to hear she's herself again. I can't wait to see these very special joeys either!

Connie, Do try wiping her down with a Cottonelle Fresh Wipe, then drying her off with the inside of Andre's cage pouch. Give Andre a clean pouch and then try putting them together. Hopefully that will rescent her with his smell enough so that he accepts her back again You really are doing a terrific job with her recovery Lessons learned are good for all of us - thanks for sharing about yours and reminding us of just how important it is to follow our instincts and get these little ones in right away if anything isn't right with them...

Connie, don't beat yourself up. First off, nothing may have shown at first if you did go in that night. They most likely would have told you to do what you did (sub-q, keep her warm, etc.) If she is feeling a little better, I would suggest you try this. Take Andre' out of his cage and wear him in a bonding pouch. Let her go in his cage and see if she will settle for a while and rest in there. Let her get her scent (the way she smells now) in where he lives. Then later, try intros again. Sending tons of prayers and good thoughts your way. Keep us posted (girl, you need a vacation!!!! lol)

Great news!!! At 6 this morning, Calypso sneezed so much, you would have thought she'd been sniffing pepper! Three hours later, she smells CLEAN! (Well, except for her tail, but I'm sure she'll get to it soon). Soooooooo, I took her back to her cage and slipped her in the pouch with Andre' and listened. NO CRABBING! I took the pouch out and peeked in. They were happily grooming each other!!! After a few minutes of mutual grooming, he decided that while she smelled better, she still didn't smell quite right so he added what was missing by MARKING her!!!! I'm so excited, I can't stop smiling!!! She ate all of her HPW and I put two tablespoons in the hospital cage last night! She even ate one blueberry! Yes, I counted everything I put in her dish! It was so sweet to observe her. She would climb out of my bra, sniff me and give me a neck hug, go eat, come back and sniff/hug again, then climb back into my bra. I thought my heart was gonna swell up ten times its size from love for her! As for how she's doing physically, when she climbed out of my bra this morning for her little walk, her tail was CURLED over her back! Tears of joy!!! My baby girl is going to be FINE!!!!

Can't wait to hear she's herself again. I can't wait to see these very special joeys either! I would never have imagined how drastically this affected her either! It just goes to show how fragile sugar gliders are and that vet CARE MUST NOT BE DELAYED! Take NOTHING is to be taken for granted EXCEPT, that vet care for even the most seemingly innocuous incidents, MUST NOT BE DELAYED! It is a valuable and terrifying lesson for me to have learned. I'm so thankful that Calypso didn't have to pay more than what she has. I shudder in horror to think she may have had to pay the ultimate sacrifice!

Agreed 100% about how surprising it is that this affected her so much. As I was reading the beginning of this post, I was thinking to myself that she would probably be okay without vet care since you were an experienced glider slave and knew how to tell if she was dehydrated, SQ her if she was and how to keep her warm, give fluids, etc. As I read through I continued to think she'd be fine with you watching her, until: I just didn't feel right. It's that instinct that makes all the difference. As everyone was saying, you were the one there with her, you were the one who could tell, and you could. I think you did EXACTLY the right thing all the way through the process so definitely don't feel badly about not taking her right in. As someone else also said, the vet probably would have just done the same things you did for her if you HAD taken her in earlier. Oh and here are my (late) hugs for you and Cally!

I am glad to hear calyso is doing so much better I was worried for her at first but you did a great job. How are her joeys doing? Has she still been able to care for them? I've seen her clean inside her pouch several times and I can feel them moving when I hold her, so I believe they're going to be ok. They still have to bake prob another month or so. I took a pic of the one mostly hanging out. I'll put them on my photobucket and post the link. I was so amazed at how tiny it was!
