there is a lot of people wondering about what to feed with the BML and asking about extras. I found this post by Bourbon a while back and thought with all the iron and kidney problems it was a good idea to bring this back up.
Quote:

The honey in the BML is disperse throughout the mix, straight honey however does pose a problem, and certain types of honey, honycomb, unfiltered , raw etc.. also poses potential for bacteria.

Also with the BML plan, corn is fine to fed, as well as peas, greenbeans, carrots.

something else I may wish to add to the list of things not to feed. Due to the higher incidences of liver problems, and the fears of iron toxicity in the liver, please, please everyone note, that feeding the axras that are high in Iron may also pose a problem, more directed to those that are free feeding and offering a wide variety of veggies and fruits.

oranges, orange juice, vit C helps the body absorb iron, okay and are you ready for this, potatoes and sweet potatoes are a leading souce of Vit C also strawberries, bell peppers, kiwi, tomatoes, broccoli, califlower and cabbage also contain vit c

spinich, collard greens, kale, peanut butter etc.. already are high in iron

Being careful not to add additional protein to already balanced diet plans.
liver, poulry, fish, egg etc..

just food for thought...

You know.....that is interesting even to those not using BML cause it gives some information that I know I didn't know know about calcium producing foods. I knew oranges, tomatoes, and broccoli. Nice to know the others too

I am sorry, Im a bit confused. Are you saying Peanut butter is okay to feed to gliders or are you saying not to since its High in Iron. If you can feed it to gliders, how is it suggested to feed them?

thanks so much

I don't think she meant to suggest to feed peanut butter to gliders just included it on the list for general comparison reasons. Peanut butter is very high in fat.

Great thanks. the reason for the question was that I thought that maybe I should be feeding them peanut butter. I know now that its not a good idea

thanks again

Thanks, cyndiekb. I printed that out for my glider binder (easy reference).

ok just so we are clear this is what Bourbon recomends.. the frozen mixed veggies of corn, peas, green beans and carrots. for the fruits again stay simple and basic. grapes, cantolupe, watermellon, apple.
