I was just reading on this website about how if I were to build a cage I could use Galvanized Wire if I scrub it down with a wire brush and then scrub it with a sponge soaked in vinegar water. I just ordered a 260 G reptarium off the net for my new glider (who I'll be getting from Carrie T in a few weeks I'm so excited! ) so I won't be building a cage anytime soon but I was still curious because everyone says that galvanized wire is poisonous and not to use it. Would treating it like this make it non-toxic? Simply curious. This is the website I read it on: http://www.skinhorse.net/gliders/housing.html Does anyone know if that would work?

I would stay away from galvanized wire, it is unhealthy for gliders, and no amount of scrubbing from a person will get rid of the zinc. Best bet is to stay away from it!!!

Thats what I thought but then I read that and I wasn't sure. I wouldn't want to risk it but I was still curious. Thanks for clearing it up!

galvanized wire is acid treated so it wont rust and nothing will adhere to it...I would not use it for any animal...

I agree, you should not use galvanized wire.

Using galvanized wire has been known to cause UTI (urinary tract infection) in gliders. Treatments of UTI are very costly. It would be advisory to avoid using galvanized wire.
