Hi everyone,

I have three beautiful gliders for a year now. They are very bonded with me, and I am really happy with them. Now I am going to move to a new home where I will have a special room for them to play outside of their cage when I am with them. I really want to make this room glider-safe. I have already blocked off the electrical wall plugs to prevent any accidents. However, there are some other things I am concerned about:

Firstly, on one side of the wall, there is a wooden plank that I believe is oak, and I read that oak can be toxic for them. My question to you all is: How much of a problem is this? They will most likely climb up here regularly to get some height for gliding. If this is a problem, what is a good solution? Is there a type of paint that can make it safe for them? Or should I use acrylic wrap or something similar?

I have the same concern with already painted baseboards, which are probably oak as well.

Another thing I am wondering about is whether IKEA furniture, like a MALM desk and a standard white painted closet, is safe to have in the same room. If I need to do something to make this furniture safe, should I use one of the mentioned solutions on it as well?

I hope you guys can help me out with my concerns! grin

As long as the out of cage playtime is supervised, it shouldn't be a problem. Be sure to have things to do, play with and climb on.

I agree with Dawn, supervised out of cage time shouldn't be a problem.

Give them fleece ropes and that to climb on.

Allright. Thank you both so much. I will keep supervision and hang some extra ropes in the room for them to climb on when out of the cage.
