so my 2 sugargliders starded fighting over food 2 months ago. i got 2 feeding bowl at different places in the cage. they ate together just fine for half a year. but now they just fight over food. and its not only one that starts the fight they both do. ive even seen them jumping at each other and fight they dont bite but just jump on each other and ball up untill one stops or they fall. it starts with crabbing at each other for 2 second to 30 seconds long. ive tried having one in a diferent cage but then they both got depressed and i had to put them together. also if i give treats Siggy steals is from luthien and then i give luthien another one and its fine. they can eat something together on my hand. but rarely they fight than.

they are sisters and only have been seperated the time i put her in another cage. its just weird that they started fighting all of the sudden. after they ate they wont fight and lay together in their pouch.

Siggy is half blind she has an undeveloped eye. she is the more dominant one. they are both about a year now

plz help cuz i want them to stop fighting

:welcomegc: and I can certainly understand your concern for your girls.

I think that possibly the problem could be Siggy's partial blindness. You say they ate fine together for 6 months and started fighting over food 2 months ago, so are they approximately 8 months old? If so, they have probably reached maturity for female gliders.

Separating them is not the solution since you know they become depressed, however, could you separate them for the main portion of their meal? What time do they normally get up to eat? You certainly do not want to encourage hand feeding every meal as this will tie you down should you ever want to be away for the evening wink

It seems they are compatible and bonded in every other way except for their meal, so it could be separating them for a few meals, letting them back together to see what happens, separating them again (if there is a fight), putting them back together, etc will give them the idea of no fighting at meals. Actually gliders are very smart and this "Time Out" has worked for some when biting has been an issue. Worth a try agree

Someone else may have another idea.

Hi! :welcomegc: wave

We have a member who had this issue and had to"block" the view from each of their dishes. That way they couldn't see each other eating. They learn to kind of hide too that way. It doesn't work right away, takes a few days.

She used fleece and made curtains so to speak. She also used parts of her cage set like the trampoline/parachute so she could hook the corners of it with C-links to the cage bars...

Please let me know if I'm not explaining it very well.

And keep us posted on the success (or not)... I'll look around for more ideas too.

You can also try multiple feeding stations on different levels of the cage. Getting the food into the cage before they wake up also helps.
