[:"blue"]I KNOW there are other KY glider owners. Possibly they just haven't found this new forum yet If you will go to the bottom of the page on click on " links" you will see a category Legal Issues. You can do a search for KY to see what, if any, their restrictions are. Good to see you here. [/]

Hi there...well I don't know everything about KY law concerning our suggies...but they are regulated by each County within KY. For example, I lived in Jefferson Co where they are illegal...so the first year I had Zoie and Samson I had little illegal aliens living with me.
My hubby and I just moved to Oldham CO where they are legal...I also know that Bullitt and Spencer Cos allow suggies. Hope that helps!
Rhonda Gizmo's Mom Gizmo (1IP) , Zoie , Samson and Cheetos

Hi there folks. I live in Berea. I'm getting my first sugar babies on Saturday. I'm totally new to gliders, but I've been researching like crazy. My babies will have a HUGE home. They are already spoiled and don't know it yet! We're getting more toys in the mail today. Well, this is my very first post, and I thought it needed to be a Kentucky post. I'm sure I'll be on here A LOT, so hopefully I'll get to know some of you. Sami

Gliders are illegal in Covington, as of late last summer. I am not familiar with bans in other N. Kentucky communities.
From time to time we have get togethers in Lexington. We're due for another one soon, so we'll let you know if you're interested in coming!

The wife and I live in Pulaski County and to our knowledge gliders are not illegal . If they are, someone needs to dust off the law book and show me . Would like to hear from other's to share ideas and diets . And who knows, some day we might all be able to get together so our gliders can show us off . That would be an experience

Hey everyone, I just wanted to respond to the question of vets who will care for Gliders. I called around, but found nothing in my immediate area. The best option within quite some distance of Louisville that I have heard of is located at this office: Jefferson Animal Hospital They respond well via e-mail or phone. WIll neuter for about $150 and do checkups for around $60. Otter

Hi everyone from KY. I live in the Bullitt County area. Very close to Louisville. I didn't know they were illigal anywhere in KY. But I take my babies to Jefferson Animal Hospital, they are great. The Exotic doctor is a lady and she loves gliders. I go to the one on Bardstown rd. but she is at both places at different days. It would be nice to get everyone from KY together to meet sometime.

He, drrosebud! Haven't seen you in awhile. We are overdue for a get-together soon. After the SGGA, we should work on that.
The places I know in KY that they are not legal are Covington, Bowling Green, and Butler County.

I'm not sure about Middlesboro -- there's a chance they aren't legal there -- they're illegal in Bowling Green. You should check with the city ordinances regarding exotic pets, or maybe just start by calling animal control and asking them who you would call to find out. Sometimes the laws are actually online.
I'm pretty sure that there are no regulations in Bell County that would keep you from owning gliders.

Okay. So I can not make the SGGA this year but I could make a Lexington trip . So who's going to let me know when the next Lexington get together is? By the way, I am located in Calloway county. For non-natives (such as myself who couldn't tell you where any one of the above mentioned counties are ) I live in Murray.

I haven't heard anything about them being illegal in Jefferson County...and if they were, I don't think the vets here would treat them IN Jefferson county. I'm going to be taking my babies to the Shively Animal Hospital. Mary Jane is the vet there who sees suggies and they are highly reputable! (been around a LOOOONG time, hense their office being in a not-so-great part of town) I would take them to the Jefferson Animal Hospital but their prices were out-freeking-rageous compared to MJ's. Hers were like $20 for an office visit and $50 for a neuter. Trust me, I would RATHER go to the Jefferson Animal because it's right around the corner from my house, but I think they thrive on the fact that they are in the "East" end of town. Anywho! I'm a new sugga momma in Louisville!

They aren't illegal in Jefferson county. The best vets are there at Jefferson Animal Hospital open 24/7.

Hi, CaitlinJo! Welcome to GC! It's so good to see another Kentuckian on here! Legallity (is that a word?) of gliders in Kentucky depends on you're location. They are illegal in either Bardstown or E-town (can't remember which), but apart from that, I haven't heard anything else. Again, welcome to GC! -------------------- Edited to correct something.

Whoa! Two new Kentucky glider owners! Nice to meet you! Cosmo, hi! I don't know of any vets in either the Bowling Green or Campbellsville area (I don't live around there). I do know that Jefferson Animal Hospital in Louisville takes sugar gliders. I don't know of any rescues in Kentucky. SquirrelBandit, hello!

BethySue - thanks for the info! My vet said he would see him and said that if it was something he couldn't handle he would refer me immediately to a vet in Louisville - So I wouldn't be surprised if that was Jefferson. Well if anyone does hear of any gliders in need here in KY, please let me know!

Cosmo, there are several vets in Lexington who are really good. Pennyroyal Small & Exotic Animal Hospital has two - Dr. Zaffarano ("Dr. Z.") has been an exotic vet for years, and knows and has worked with hundreds of gliders. She has an assistant now who's new in the practice, but I've found to be really good, too - her name is Dr. Walker. They're located off of Southland Drive. Also, while I've never been to Dr. Craig Blair, a lot of people really think he's great, too. He's located off of Clays Mill Rd. BTW, it's Butler County (bordering Louisville) where gliders are illegal - not Jefferson County itself.

I am new here and (as of yet) I don't own any but I've been scanning the net for a while studying gliders. I am just waiting til I move (which could be up to a year) to actually get one. But the Elizabethtown pet store had a suggie for sale about a couple of weeks ago so I am sure they are not Illegal in Hardin Co. which is good. Just thought I would let everyone know. oh and I love reading posts about stories. I've been wanting one for a couple of years now

Hi everyone, I too am from Kentucky. I own 3 gliders, one of which was abused from a previous owner. I would like one more, preferably a female, but would consider a really sweet male.
I'm in Somerset, and my friend sells gliders for Sugar Gliders "R" Us. I help her out and if anyone needs any help just let us know and we'll help you out any way we can.

I'm not sure where I'm getting one from yet. I'd like to find one that needs a new home instead of buying from a breeder, but nothing is set in stone. Any suggestions?

Hi again Becky. I will tell you that it is very hard to find one for adoption. I had troulbe just getting one from a breeder. Has Troy emailed you back yet? He sells at a really good price. I know of a few other breeders if he can't help you but I don't know any up for adoption right now.

Thanks for the link, but that's a little more than I want to spend to "adopt" a glider.
I'm sure I'll find something within a reasonble distance (I don't mind a little drive) soon enough. I'm in no big hurry.
Thanks again, Becky

New KY poster here,
I am in a tiny town in Russell County KY. I do all my shopping in Pulaski County that is were I got one of my gliders. I think this part of the country wouldn't care if you had a elephant, no laws that I know of!
Hi to all you fellow Blugrass glider family members!

I can't help but post here even though in March I moved to North Carolina - I grew up in northern KY. Lived in Kenton and Boone county and am familiar with the area. There was, maybe still is, an exotic pet store locally owned and operated in Erlanger off of Dixie Hwy that sold gliders -- www.exoticpa.com I think, they were very nice but I haven't been there since I moved. Also own a cabin down in Burnside by Lake Cumberland, right at the south fork in the river, outside of Somerset and about 10 exits down from Berea. I miss KY!

Hello! I am in Nicholasville, but i'm originally from Somerset. I have a 10 week oop female. When I bought her I thought she was hand tamed, but she wasn't. I don't have the the skill or time to hand tame her, so I'm trying to adopt her out to a good, loving home for $150. This is a great price for her. I would like to adopt an older suggie that is hand tamed. I love her dearly, but she won't even let me touch her and since I'm so inexperienced with gliders, she needs a better home. anyone interested should email me at rhonda.bingham@ky.gov, or call me at 859-881-1637 or 606-305-9491. I am willing to drive to deliver, within a reasonable distance!

I am willing to drive to deliver, within a reasonable distance! I meant to email you back and haven't had a chance yet. Sorry! Have you tried the tent time yet? That really works wonders on the bonding process! I felt like Scrat was never going to bond to me but it just seems like it takes a long time because you want it to happen so bad. There are many different things you can try. The things that worked best for me is carrying Scrat in a bonding pouch, using scent patches, and tent time. I wont lie it did take a lot of hard work and it was very time consuming but in the end having a sweet spoiled suggie baby is worth it. I will give you some helpful advice on getting an older one. Alot of times (not always) people sell or give the older ones away because they don't have time for them. Hence they have probably never bonded to their owner or been tamed down. Also even with an older glider who has been bonded before may still take some work bonding to you. Just be careful when you adopt or purchase an older glider. Maybe spend an hour a day for a few days with the glider before purchasing it. Some owners will let you do this. This way you have a small idea of the glider's personality. Just do what best fits you. I prefer a glider who takes work. I know that sounds crazy but I like that rewarding feeling you get when you've worked on something. Now I have a friend who prefers hers to already be tame. She wants something she can cuddle on right from the start! I can't blame you or her though, it is really hard when you bring home your glider and feel like they hate you in the beginning. lol If you decide to sell your baby girl good luck with everything. I would buy her but I have a male and I don't want babies. I'm getting him neutered soon but it will be a while. If you decide to keep her, stay in touch with me and I'll try to help you as best as I can with advice.

We get busy, that's okay! I actually did try tent time, but she stayed huddled in a corner every single time. She hears me near her cage, and she starts crabbing. I wonder if I'm petting her too soon? I have done everything you've mentioned. I hold her through the pouch and fold it down so I can get to her, and I pet her. She crabs, and doesn't act like she's happy, but she doesn't try to bite. Should I stop that, and just do the hand feeding until she comes to me? I also think she likes my 9 year old. Whenever she hears her voice, she calms down and comes out of her pouch to investigate. (see my posting about chaos and bonding/taming). I have two from a lady in Indiana who doesn't have time to devote to hers anymore, they are about 10 mos old and I'm going to see them this weekend. Hopefully it will work out, and I can introduce them to Bingo and learn how to handle the suggies with them and practice techniques for Bingo. We'll definitely stay in touch.

I live in Campbell County. I've had one sugar glider for about 6 weeks and the other for one week. We also have two dogs, two guinea pigs and three kids (children, not goats). glad to see so many from Kentucky. Was starting to wander since it was so hard to find a vet in the area. Have a great day, all!

I don't think there are any vendors in southeastern Kentucky - you'd be better off ordering them from respected vendors here and having them shipped to you! I really don't trust supplies I find in pet stores (Peggy's store is an exception!!). Welcome, Ellen!

Sugar gliders r us has a booth in the flea market, and I know they have been a source of some heated debates here on GC, but this is where I bought Bingo and Pauline is wonderful. The booth is clean, the gliders are well cared for, she has some of the sweetest, tamest babies I've seen, and she has just about anything you could want, toys, treats, staple food, pouches. She also does nail trims for only $5. Every weekend I go in there with Bingo, and he goes right to her and the pouch she wears -- he remembers that's where her treats are.

IT's not the flea market down in Burnside. If you're going down 27, just past the mall, turn left onto 914. It's the big indoor flea market, I think it's called lake cumberland flea market, it's on the right.
Suggielover, Pauline has girls down in Somerset, I could get one and bring it to Lexington with me if you're interested.

I got my 2 girls from a lady,i think she lives around burnside. but she was in the process of moving to liberty(which is like 15 minutes from). She's not really a breader, (her 7 year old daughter thought their male was lonely,so she put him in the cage with the females, lol.) When i got mine, she had 2 other females that wasn't ready to go yet. But if you're interested i call give her a call & see if she still has them? Let me know,ok.
