i am amazed at this topic. i don't know why i am since my girl could not be the only one, but still... itchy started having seizures about 6 weeks ago. she fell from the cage side to the floor where she was found the next morning. she could hardly move, her breathing was labored and she kept a characteristic twitch that was more pronounce when i held her on hhr back, her body would twist to my right over and over. we took her to the vet, he also diagnosed seizures and sedated her. he said he would call some vets do some researcha and call me back. he kept her the rest of the day and then went back and got her along with a pheobarb perscription at a pharmacy in town. for the next several days she was with me as much as possible. when she was in the cage, she slept on the bottom inside a birdhouse type fabric house alicia gave me. she would eat a small amount of bml, but cover herself in it and she would not drink. not even glideraid or juice or anything. i syringed her often. finally, the morning of the fourth day, she seized massively and she died.i took her to the vets and had her autopsied. they called me back a week later and said that her brain had swelled to capacity of her skull and was crushed and she had started to hemmorage inside her head.the bleed was not bad, due to the pressure, but there were many small bursts there. my heart is brimming with remorse for what you are going through.

In humans and other mammals, doctors use steroids to ease/control/mitigate the swelling of the brain that takes place in response to injury/disease. Maybe our vets could try this on the gliders. A steroid injection is commonly given to animals that have experienced trauma and also serves to increase their sense of well-being. Dose would probably be tricky, but it might help.

i'm sorry to hear about itchy, weesiepoo...did they find out why she was seizing?
she does seem to be making progress again. she hasn't seized for a week now, and she has finally started to move more and eat solids again, although she still can't eat a mealie. she managed to get from one pouch to another across the cage when she was spending the day with dimitri. she doesn't crab when i touch her head anymore and she's grooming her fur again. her personality does seem different, she seems calmer and happier with me, but i think that otherwise she will be back to normal in a few days. thank you so much, everyone, for your thoughts and prayers.
Beth Glide free Dimitri and Tegan and right-side up!

So glad to hear that things are looking up!
I am a homeschool mom to four girls and seven sugar gliders; an annoying ponderer of deep thoughts; a purposeful meanderer on walks and strolls; a prayerful wonderer and marveler; a friend to many small creatures, and an Undercover Agent for the Kingdom which cannot be shaken...Nice to meet you!
