Forgive me if this isnt in the right place-Ive never done a video before, but since it was a health issue put it here...please move it if it needs to go elsewhere.

This is the video taken to illustrate Brodie's (glidrz5's little boy) neurologic symptoms when we got to MaryH's down in Texas. My phone I took it on broke so it took me a bit to get it off, then had to figure out what to do with it. tounge Anyway, hope it is useful to someone. I will attempt to embed it but will do a link just in case it doesnt work, also.

The working video is two posts down under Gizmogirl

I have also uploaded all the still photos from Brodie getting settled in/hand fed when we got there with Chris and Mary to my GC gallery. Appears the first pic in there is out of order (old pic) But then the others follow. Heres the link (hoping it works):

If you like I can try PMing the link to you

Forgot you cant link here to Youtube. I just think a vid of a glider showing such obvious neurological symptoms may be of value, so hopefully it can be fixed.

The necropsy/labs arent back on him yet. The working video is under Gizmogirl, 3rd post in thread-these were the symptoms that sent him to Texas in the first place, when he first got there (we'd been there an hour or two MAYBE)

I have finally gotten the final results of Ryan and Brodie's Necropsy/Histiopath. I retyped the page since the faxed results did have some lines through the pages that made it difficult to read at times.

I honestly have no clue what they mean, I did talk with the Dr Rosea briefly and she gave me a brief overview.

Brodie necropsy results:

6/6/11 Necropsy – General appearance: pt was lean, evidence of nasal discharge
Heart: nsf
Lungs: foamy fluid present within the trachea, some white mucous also
present within the trachea, lung appear generally congested
Stomach: distended with a large amount of gas
GIT: mild to moderate gas distension
Liver: blunted margins and appears enlarged
Kidney: nsf

Doctor: Roset
Clinic: ABC Animal and Bird Clinic

Sugar Land, TX 77478

Date: June 10, 2011
Access: V102376-1
Species: Marsupial
Breed: Sugar Glider
Sex: Male
Name: Brodie
Age: 4 years
Type: Tissue charge 9

CLINICAL INFORMATION
There is an unknown history and unexpected death

MICROSCOPIC:
Submitted are two tissue sections

Kidney: In the examined sections of kidney, which are through the cortex and medulla, there are some mild interstitial lymphoplasmatic infiltrates.

Liver: There is a mild diffuse cytoplasmic vacuolization of the hepatocytes. This is a very fine cytoplasmic vaculization. Rare foci of lymphoplasmactic and rare neutrophilic infiltrates are recognized within the section. This is within the central veins.

Gallbladder: The gallbladder is distended and moderately autolyzed. It is supporting abundant lacy basophilic material within the lumen.

Trachea: Examined is a cross-section through the trachea. No lesion is recognized.

Heart: Examined is a longitudinal section through the ventricle, atria and great vessels of the heart. No lesion is recognized

Intestines: Examined are multiple sections of the intestines. No lesion is recognized.

Stomach: There are some mild neutrophilic and rare lymphocytic infiltrates noted in the superficial mucosa within the lamina propria

Adrenal gland: No lesion recognized

Lung: No lesion recognized

Urinary bladder: No lesion recognized

DIAGNOSIS
1. STOMACH: MILD SUPERFICIAL SUBACUTE GASTRITIS
2. KIDNEY: MILD MULTIFOCAL SUBACUTE INTERSTITAL NEPHARITIS
3. LIVER: MILD NODULAR SUBACUTE HEPATITIS

COMMENT:

The most significant lesion identified is within the stomach of gastritis. A cause for this is not determined and no specific microbes are associated with these lesions. There is evidence of some systemic inflammation although this is low-grade and may not have resulted in clinical signs or death. The systemic inflammation is of the interstitial nephritis as well as the mild hepatitis. Again no microbes are associated with these lesions.

Per Dr Roset she believs that due to the foamy presence in his lungs Brodie may have had an infection or suffered from an allergic reaction.

Date: May 19, 2011
Access: V102213-8
Species: Marsupial
Breed: Sugar Glider
Sex: Male
Name: Ryan
Age: 22 weeks
Type: Tissue charge 11

CLINICAL INFORMATION

This mass has been present on the chest with no other obvious abnormalities

MICROSCOPIC

Submitted are the mass and additional tissue sections.

Cerebrum: Examined are multiple sections through the cerebrum. No Lesion is recognized

Cerebellum: Examined are sections through the cerebellum. No lesion is recognized

Heart: Examined is a section through the ventricle and atria of the heart. No lesion is recognized.

Stomach: No lesion is recognized.

Adrenal gland: no lesion is recognized.

Intestines: Examined are multiple sections of the intestines at various levels. There is mild lymphoplasmacytic and neutrophilic infiltrates into the lamina propria of the small intestine.

Adipose tissue and Lymph Nodes: Examined are sections that are interpreted as the lymph nodes within the mesenteries. These are supporting extensive and severe inflammation that extends out into the surrounding adipose tissue. The inflammation is neutrophilic with viable and degenerate cells as well as macrophages, which are exhibiting some mild erychrophagocytosis and a dense proliferation of rod-shaped bacteria. There is a partial effacement of some of the lymph nodes with this lymph node and edema as well as fibrin. In one section adipose tissue there is a fibrin thrombus also recognized in the blood vessels of the adipose tissue. This was characterized by dense eosinophilic material entrapping cells and associated with some hemorrhage and adhered to the vessel wall.

Spleen: the spleen is congested

Cecum: No lesion recognized

Liver: There is a variable cytoplasmic vacuolization of the hepatocytes diffusely. These are variably sized vacuoles that are clear and discrete. A section of the gallbladder is also identified in which there is abundant lacy basophilic material within the lumen of the gallbladder. The liver is congested with the focal areas of hepatocellular necrosis and fibrin as well as some mild congestion and cell debris. These are somewhat randomly located within the hepatic parenchyma.

Kidney: Examined are sections through the cortex and medulla of the kidney. There are, within the Interstitum, mild lymphoplasmacytic infiltrates.

Lung: The lung is mildly congested.

DIAGNOSIS
1. LYMPH NODE AND ADIPOSE TISSUE: FOCALLY EXTENSIVE AND SEVERE SUPPURATIVE AND SEPTIC STEATITIS AND LYMPHADENTIS
2. LIVER: MILD MULTIFOCAL ACUTE HEPATIC NECROSIS
3. KIDNEY: MILD MULTIFOCAL LYMPHOPLASMACTIC INTERSTITAL

COMMENT:

The sections examined from the lymph nodes with associated adipose tissue are interpreted as mesenteric lymph nodes, supporting focally extensive regions of suppurative and septic inflammation. The bacteria identified are small rod-shaped structures. The point of origin for this bacterial infection is not determined.

DRURY R. REAVILL, DVM
ABVP, Certified in Avian Practice
Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Pathologists

DRR:br* Q2 KW Immuno, Infection (bacterial) (Stephen A Fronefield, DVM)

5/16/11 Necropsy – General appearance: good body condition, good coat quality, no evidence of trauma
Integument: two subcutaneous masses were present on the ventral thorax within the subcutaneous fat, masses were slightly firm and red in color.
Heart: No Significant findings
Lungs: Left lung is slightly mottled and consolidated
Liver; Enlarged with blunted margins, slightly mottled, no evidence of mass
GI tract: Stomach contained ingesta, no significant findings
Spleen: no significant findings
Kidney: No significant findings
Bladder: No significant findings
Brain: No significant findings
Conclusions: The masses on the chest did not appear invade the chest cavity and there was not evidence of metastasis. The lung congestion and mottled appearance could represent a post mortem change and did not appear to contribute to the death of this individual. The enlarged liver could represent infection or toxin. The specific cause of death could not be determined on necropsy. This animal appeared to be in good flesh with excessive abdominal fat. (Kimberly Roset, DVM)

Dr Roset was not as familiar with Ryan's case as she was with Brodies, but she did tell me that it did not appear that the two deaths were related in any way. With Ryan it appears that he had gotten a very slight scratch or puncture wound that allowed bacteria to enter his system without leaving any indication of injury. She said this often times happens with birds. They are injured but when checked it appears that they are fine with no injuries and then 12-24 hours later they are found dead on the bottom of the cage due to bacteria entering the wound and going systemic.

Bacterial infection could have caused both. Unfortunately only Ryan was diagnosed with one... there doesnt seem to be enough information to determine conclusively for Brodie..both of them were WAY too young to say goodbye frown
