Could someone send me PML, or the link to find it.

Also, does anyone know --

I want to print out this whole thread, because I can't remember all the good ideas mentioned! Does someone know how to print out the whole thread, with just the comments, and not the art?

Thanks!

EDIT: Gina, that's what I ended up doing - cutting and pasting!

JAZZYJ: Could you please email me the "new" diet sheet? Thanks!
Valkyriemome@aol.com

Oh, EDIT again:
For a while I thought that "Ps" diet, "PML" and "BML" represented TWO different diets, with PML and "P" being the same thing.

Now I've read more, and I understand that those are THREE diets.

So, what is PML? Could someone link to that, please? BML, I know - it is what I feed Rocket now!

I'm a little late coming to this thread... but I just want to say a big Thank You! to you all for holding this discussion grin ! I have to say with all the diet research I've done, Priscilla's diet was one that still confused me! But thanks to this discussion, I've been able to clear up a lot of my confusion. I still have a few questions though...

I sent a PM to agilitygliders to ask a few questions... Still waiting to hear back though, Billy wink ...

Basically, I've been feeding Darcy's diet for over 2 yrs. with real good results all along up until recently. So I never really gave any thought to switching diets or trying something else. But now in the last couple weeks, I've had 2 seperate pairs of mine reject joeys. Since I've never had a single rejection prior to this, I'm not entirely sure it's diet related, but it has made me want to take a closer look at other diet options and at least consider the possibility.

So I'd love to hear from anyone who feeds this diet and also breeds. What have your results been as far as rejections/cannibalizing of joeys? Has anybody had a glider with a history of rejecting on another diet that then switched to this diet and now the glider is no longer rejecting?

Also, an unrelated question... and this one's kind of silly... but does anyone know why Priscilla says to use a wooden spoon to mix? Does this really matter?

And as to the flax seed and wheat germ... What is the difference between these? Priscilla says to use one or the other. Does anyone know the benefits of one over the other? Why not use both? Either alternate, flax seed in one mix, wheat germ in the next, etc. or even use half and half in each mix?

I don't know the difference between flax seed and wheat germ.

But I know that in humans, flax seed oil (taken as a supplement) can be taken instead of fish oil as a source of Omega-3. It is easier to digest for many, and doesn't cause a "burb-back" side effect. It actually seems to be a more "useable" source for the oil.

But I don't know if Wheat Germ has the same effect, or benefits, or if it is completely different in gliders!

So let me see if I've got this right.

You alternate between the chicken, egg, and plain mix. With the plain mix you can either give 20 mealies per glider, or you can give 10 mealies per day, 7 days a week?
Now with the fruits and veggies, is it 3/4 of each for chicken, 3/4 of each for egg, 3/4 of each with the plain batch? That is, 3/4 cup of fruit AND 3/4 cup of veggies? And is that amount for one batch that has either egg, chicken, or nothing in it? And the amount of vitamins--1/8 of a teaspoon no matter how many gliders? Or 1/8 per glider?

Sorry if these questions have already been answered!

I made my first batch of P's diet up today....

I used my birthday present, the Vidalia Chop Wizdard The smaller blade set was AWESOME at chopping all kinds of fruits and veggies in small, but still "holdable" pieces.
I had all kinds of fun! LOL

However, I did like P's site said and froze the mix in ziplock bags about 1/2" thick.
It's AWFUL hard to break off a piece, even after I slammed it with my meat tenderizer, it hardly cracked.....

I'm wondering if I can thaw the bags out in the fridge and refreeze them in ice cube trays??
Any thoughts on if this would be a bad thing to do???

Don't thaw and refreeze.

Never a safe thing to do. Food doesn't re-freeze well, and will harbor bacteria.

Stormshy7 I did the same thing and ended up taking a hammer to it out on the deck it took some good smacking but it did break up into small enough pieces.
I have to say my suggies love this stuff.

When I place my fruits in ziplock bags and in the freezer I will wait an hour or so, just as it is starting to freeze, take it out and seperate the pieces a bit and put it back in the freezer. Tends not to freeze as hard as a rock that way.

I know a few others will lay their fruits on cookie sheets and freeze it like that and then place it in a ziplock, but personally I cut up too much at one time to do that.

Ok, I came up with a new easy way to do this. I just made my new batch last weekend. After you make everything and mix in your fruits and veggies scoop it into a snack size bag or if you have more gliders a bigger bag. I labeled each bag and then froze it. Before I go to school each morning I set a bag out to thaw all day and then when i get home I just open it and scoop it onto the plates. I was able to use snack size bags since I don't feed many gliders. I have been making P's diet for years and this way is sooooooooo easy. I recommend trying it atleast once. If you have questions how what I send just shoot me a PM.

I freeze all mine in ice-cube trays. When they are done freezing, I pop out all the cubes and put them in freezer zip-loc bags. Then I just take out however many cubes I'm going to feed and let them thaw. I mush them up when they have softened enough, then I feed it to my gliders. This way is very easy for me.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this thread. I got my boys from Priscilla and continued them on her diet for a few weeks after they came to me. I decided to switch diets because the boys weren't eating much of it, although now I know that because they were babies at the time they just couldn't eat all of the adult portions I was serving. I ended up putting them on Darcy's diet instead because Nocturne refuses to eat honey or anything that contains honey so diets like PML and BML were completely out of the running.

A little while ago I ordered some new vitamins from Priscilla and collected all the fixins for her diet. I mixed up the "goop" recipe with a couple changes to make it better suit my boys. The biggest difference is that I added 1 cup of papaya juice to the mixture to mellow and sweeten the taste because Nocturne doesn't generally care for applesause but he loves papaya. I used to give the boys a dish of papaya juice about 3 times a week anyway so now I'm just incorporating that into their goop.

I freeze just the goop alone into ice cube trays, empty the trays once frozen, and store the cubes in a ziplock baggie in the freezer. Keeping the goop separate means I'm free to add any type of fresh or frozen fruits and veggies each night. I also feed all protein separate.

My gliders are making little piggies of themselves with the new diet. They absolutely love the taste. The boys are looking great after only a few weeks of being back on Priscilla's diet. I weighed them the other day and each has slimmed down a little bit now that they're off the Ensure. Neither one of my gliders is obese and each has always maintained a healthy weight, but I do worry about them getting too heavy because they have been neutered.

I ended up using those Glad re-useable containers I think they are 4 oz size. This holds just enough for one nights dinner for 8 gliders. I measured it into them and froze it When I use it at night I take out a new one for the next night and thaw it in the fridge so it is ready the next night. This way all the feeding things are done at one time during the day!

Brenda,
That's a good idea!

I have a granddaughter, and her mom gets her the babyfood that comes in a little almost-tupperware-like container. It is larger than an icecube tray, but roughly that size and the little rectangle is that shape. And it has a snap on lid.

I have her save those, and I put the food (I use BML) in those, and then put the little containers in a zip lock bag in the freezer.

I usually take out one, microwave it for about 20 seconds, and then mix in Rocket's fruits and veggies.

Now why didn't I think about just putting tomorrow's in the fridge? Doh!

Oh -- I had asked this before but not received an answer.

Please, someone send me links to PML diet. North_Nocturn's mom -- What is Darcy's diet?

Rocket is on BML and he does OK on it, but I wish he ate better. So, I thought I'd look into different diets. Is there a place where ALL the diets are explained?

Val,

If you go to the very top of the page....click on the blue button that says links....then click on the very first word that says diet links.....you will find links to almost every diet, including PML and Darcy's.

I use ice cube trays to freeze mine into individual portions and then I put one cube in his bowl in the evening with a little bottled water or juice poured over it. I have found my boy likes it a little wetter and he really enjoys it this way. It is still frozen when I put it in the tray but the one time I gave it to him completely thawed he didn't like it and only ate the cereal.

We use the ziplock "snack" bags as well......they work great....plus since we are only feeding 5 gliders, the "goop" can defrost in less than 2 hours....with the exception of tofu they continue to lick their little bowls clean

GOOD DAY Everyone, I was wondering if anyone who has started this diet since this thread started would comment on how they and the gliders like it. Have you seen any differences in the glider?

Thank you for sharing

Hi everyone. I am Very late coming to this thread. As I started reading, I became very interested in this topic and possibly switching to P's diet from BML. My problem was, I knew I could not remember all the great tips from all the pages of this topic. I have copied and pasted all of the information from this entire 7-page thread into one easily printed document. I cut out most of the correspondence type questions, the links, and photos. What is left is questions, answers, and facts. I know some of you would probably like this for printing also. If you want a copy PM me your email and I will send it out. I will do better if you PM me instead of replying to this post. (I will read all my PM's and not necessarily read the posts).

Could someone please email me the updated care sheets from Priscilla? (amandasnow@bellsouth.net) I can also add these to the pages of forum topics that I will email out. Thanks so much..

I have been looking over this diet and the Suncoast for some time now. I am currently on the BML which has been fine but I find it to be too restricting. From what I've read Suggies need nutritional enrichment to be happy, which means a lot of variety. I contacted both Priscilla "The Pet Glider" and Lisa at "Suncoast" and was really happy with the responses I received. They were very quick at getting back to me (1 day) and answered my questions. I have decided to go with P's for a number of reasons. Variety being #1. I wasn't very keen on the ingredients of the Zoo Keepers Secret, 1st ingredient being meat by-product as opposed to sugar glider cereal being soy, fruits and vegetables. Even if my gliders don't eat the dried staple the vitamins have many of the extra ingredients I have been researching to give my gliders such as Bee Pollen, acacia gum, etc. I have new copies of P's diet sheets if anyone needs them and will be ordering her supplements this week to start my gliders on. Thanks to all who participated in this post as it just confirmed how great I was already thinking this diet would be!

We've been on P's diet here for about a month now.
Deka has cleaned his plate EVERYNIGHT since the switch.

Last night I found some of thoes mini-muffin silcione pans and they worked PERFECTLY for freezing the mix.

He LOVES the vitamins! I had an awful headache, one night and my BF forgot to put the vitamins on his food.
Deka stood on top of his glider kitchen and barked up a storm until I finally figured out what his problem was, added the vitiamins and he was good to go! LOL

He dosen't eat as much of the dry pellets as he did of the SunCoast.
But he loves playing with the Monkey Biscuts. He trys to run with them in his wheel, carries them into his pouch.

I love how simple it is to make, and the cost of the vitamins aren't really an issue when you only have one or two gliders.

Okay, you guys MIGHT have me sold, still debating here. My turn for questions. I have 20 or so gliders (I loose count, lol) so I would make 1 whole batch of each every time. So, this would be the recipe for mine, right?

Quote:
Presentation:

25 oz unsweetened applesauce

4 oz Dannon non-fat plain yogurt

3 oz concentrated calcium fortified orange juice, no water added

3/4 c Old Fashioned Oats (NO QUICK COOKING OATS)

1 T fresh ground flax seed or wheat germ, refrigerated

In a large mixing bowl, with a wooden spoon, mix the applesauce, oats, yogurt, wheat germ and orange juice. Divide into two equal portions. To portion one, add: 6 small or medium eggs, scrambled. To portion two, add: 1.5 lb unseasoned, unsalted, broiled shredded chicken.

Add 3/4 cup various chopped or precut fruits and vegetables to each portion. Freeze flat in quart size freezer bags (1/2" or less thick). If you choose to use pre-cut frozen produce, do not use vegetables which have a high ratio of corn.

Break off a frozen piece of the basic mix.

Feeding schedule should be:

Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday: Basic Mix

Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday: Basic Mix Plus Mealworms (about 20 per glider)

Would it be okay to do veggies in one batch and fruits in another??

Now it is 10 meallies per glider per night instead of 20 on the designated days right?

How long does one batch usually last? Right now I feed PML and 1 batch usually last me about 4 days.

Is this, concentrated calcium fortified orange juice, no water added, the frozen orange juice?

I would want to blend the fruits/veggies into the mixture, since it takes me forever every night to cut up fruits; those of you who mix it in, do your gliders still eat it all?

I have a few overweight gliders and I am kind of leary about giving them 10 meallies everynight. Has anyone had any problems with overweight gliders gaining more weight or not loosing weight on this diet?

At $40 for vitamins for 1 glider/year that puts me at about $800 a year for vitamins, OUCH!! That I don't know if I can handle.

Lyns, I feed 10 mealies per glider every day (except for Lilo who only gets 3 because she's on a diet)

My 1st batch lasted about 3 weeks, but that was with 3 gliders for the first 2 weeks, and 5 for a week..

Yes, it's the frozen OJ

Mine eat everything every night, it's the cleanest I've ever seen bowls, lol.. Even when L&H were mating last week, they still ate, which was a 1st!

Lilo has lost 6 grams in 3 weeks on this diet, but she's under close vet supervision to make sure she's losing at an ok rate. She only gets 3 mealies per night wink

If you email P, I'm sure you can get a deal on vitamins, ask Laura, she just ordered a huge supply for her crew smile

Okay guys, and it is the reg sized meallies or the giant ones?? Because I cannot see myself ever letting each glider have 10 giant meallies every night, that is way too much.

arg - I just ordered my second batch of vitamins. I ordered the 180 day bag the first time, because I wasn't sure my kids would eat this diet. But they clean their plates every night. So the 180 day bag was gone in a month. This time I ordered it in the 360 day bag. There should be a pound option or I'll be ordering every month - arg!

I made my first batch of P's diet last night. My little ones have eaten some of the goop, but seem more interested in the monkey biscuits and glider cereal right now. Have any of you had a similar situation?

We make batches and then blend different fruits and veggies in different combinations...the only thing they didn't clean was the tofu...lol.....we really like it because of the variety....and we had a blast making it.....felt like a mad chemist.....by the way...our little fluffy girl looks much thinner and she gets the same number of mealies as everyone else....our don't really go for the hard foods first anymore...before it seemed like just curiosity....we do see them eat both the cereal and the bisquits but mostly I think they just carry them around for fun....lol....

I'm still trying to figure out, for sure, how much 1 batch would last for 22 gliders. . . anyone know??? Becki, I think our math was off last night, lol. I am thinking 1 batch is only going to last me 1 day dunno

Still wondering if it's the giant meallies or the reg meallies??

Lynsie-

Just my own personal experience: When I make a batch that strictly follows the recipe on P's website I get 18-19 ice cubes that are 2 tablespoons each. So for me, one batch equals about 37 tablespoons of goop. I feed different than the recipe in that I serve the goop, fruits/veggies, and protein each separately (that's just a personal preference and there's no real reason I feed that way). Because I feed the staple separately, I know that every night my boys get 1 tablespoon of goop each. If you feed according to P's instructions by breaking off a hunk of frozen mix already containing fruit/veg/protein, I would think the length of time a batch lasts would vary slightly depending on the exact size of piece you break off.

About the mealies... you might want to look through all the glider pics on P's site and judge the size of mealies she feeds her gliders for yourself. You can see how big they look in her adult glider's hands and then compare to your own.

HTH!

Well I have ice cube trays that hold 1 tbls cubes. So each glider would get 1 cube.

If those are the meallies she uses then they are the giant meallies, and I would probably only give my gliders 3-4 each, no way I would give 10 a day. 10 a day at 22 gliders would mean 220 meallies a day, which means I would be going through 500 meallies every 2 days. No way!! lol

This sounds really interesting. I am thinking about giving it a try. My guys do eat the BML but they usually leave some. We'll see. I do have a question though about the mealies: I have really weord gliders in that only 1 of my 7 will actually eat them. The rest will eat freeze dried but have no interest whatsoever in live ones. Is freeze dried ok?

I've been reading through this thread...

I thought citrus wasn't really that good for gliders. The orange juice in the diet worries me. Comments?

So, I have been feeding this for about 2 months now & it's time for a progress check!

-My finicky eaters who before would eat maybe half of what I fed them are now completely cleaning their plates every night!

-My 3 notoriously constipated boys no longer hiss when they poop!

-Zoe's family literally waits at the door EVERY night for me to bring in their food & the whole family circles arund the dish to eat - too cute!

-EVERYONE has gotten so fluffy & shiny I can hardly believe it!

I love how easy it is to make and the variety my kids get with 3 different batches. I also like that the ingredients are all fresh and recognizable, there's no processed jarred stuff to worry about.

So, it gets an A+ so far at my house!

Same here - we give it an A+. My boy eats it all down (not something that happened before), is shiny and healthy and no stool issues.

As to the OJ, citrus is allowed in small amounts and when considering everything in the diet, it really is a small amount.

ok, My guys would not eat the eggs or chicken for the life of me. They would chew on it and then they spit it back out. Finally decided to try blending the eggs in with the applesauce, so that they can't pick it out, and they eat every bite now! I'm gonna try to do the same with the chicken tonight, but with me making double batches of everything, there is a WHOLE LOT of chicken to cut up first, lol.

Ok, I made a batch of each of the egg, chicken, turkey, and plain, a lot of applesauce I might add. But, like a doofus, I forgot to add the fruits and veggies to the mix before I froze it! I like the idea of smoothying the fruits and veggies before serving so that we aren't so picky. If I smoothy the fruits and veggies, how much should I feed each night, and is it okay to freeze the smoothie mix by itself?

well we are going into our third batch and we made a triple batch for the second time.....we have no negative comments about this diet....we were like mad scientists last time with a little of this and that going in for the fruits and veggies....it made for amazing combo's so that the worries of them becoming bored are no more.....our only down is they don't like the tofu....so it will be egg and cheicken unless anyone has any other protein suggestions

With the superworms, I would only give a couple a day, they are like 3 times the size of large mealies so I would say no more than 3 a day per glider.
