What happened? I wasn't in the office last week, so I missed tons... link to the story?

On her way to Bourbons for a get together, seven of her gliders died and no one knew why at the time.

Now, this is the story that I read on another forum (not from CGarnes) so I don't know how exact it is.

I was at Bourbon's Saturday and several people talked to CGarnes while I was there. Apparently, when she travels, she puts each little family unit in a pouch and then puts all of the pouches in a soft side container behind the driver seat in her vehicle. This way, with her sitting in the passenger seat, she can see what is going on. So, they drive from Columbus, OH to Louisville, KY and decide to stop for a bathroom break and something to drink. It had only been about 4 hours. She started taking out pouches to offer the babies something to drink. The first pouch she took out had four suggies in it. When she picked up the pouch it was all wet, she thought possibly from getting hot. When she opened the pouch all of the babies were dead and blue. The next pouch she opened had 3 in it and they were all dead too. They had all suffocated. Needless to say she was absolutely devastated. Seven of her babies all at once! I can't even imagine the pain she is in. She had carried them like this all of the time and never had any problems whatsoever. She is just beating herself up about this. Oh my goodness, I am so upset for her. How terrible, she must be so distraught. Please let her know we are all thinking about her. My stomach is in knots thinking about it....

Oh my gosh <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />!! That is one of the most horrible things I've ever heard!! That make me feel so terrible. I couldn't even imagine what I'd do if this were to happen to me. I'm just speechless right now. My heart goes out to her and she and her gliders are in my prayers. Could her car have a leaky exhaust and does the floor have any rust holes in it? My boyfriend’s mom had a leaky exhaust under the front of the car and the fumes came up to the driver. You can’t smell the exhaust fumes but they will put you to sleep and you can die if you breathe them in long enough. Luckily Shane noticed before something serious happened. I bet sugar gliders would be affected more quickly because they are so little and they were close to the floor of the car. I just thought of this when I read about this tragic story.

Regardless of what happened, it has to be very devastating to lose so many gliders at once. My heart goes out to CGarnes.

I'm confused. Why is CGarnes no longer a registered user? I was going to PM her my phone number but I can't. Is something going on? I mean besides the obvious tragedy. I am just sick over this.

I wonder about the exhaust issue brought up...I had one, and stopped carrying my gliders with me when we discovered one in my Honda a couple years ago (it gave me headaches whenever I drove it) until it was repaired. Those can be nasty, and since it is colorless/odorless, extremely hard to detect.

I can only imagine how terrible this must feel and when I do, I imagine myself feeling guilt over it, but don't you DARE feel that you did anything wrong. This is a terrible tragedy but it was not foreseeable (is that a word?) and just a horrible accident. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" />

Assuming it was exhaust fumes, which it sounds like it was, your babies didn't suffer, but just got sleepy and went to sleep.

How devastating for you, Cyndi. I'm so sorry. I wish I had more and better words, but just know that many, many people are hurting with you and wish you well as you recover from this tragedy. Having been the cause of a glider's death, I know how you must be beating yourself up. But we do the best we can for our gliders, and I know you did that. Our prayers are with you.

Cyndi, I cannot imagine the pain that you are going through right now - but I hope that knowing there are many who have seen and ejoyed all the love and life that comes through in all your posts are sending their love and comfort eases some of your pain.

Cyndi, my heart has sunk to my feet to hear that you lost ALL 7 of your babies! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crying.gif" alt="" /> I know you're probably beating yourself to a pulp over something that you feel you should've done, could've done....I've been there myself, I know (to a limited degree) how you're feeling.

The only thing we all here on the board can do is cry with you & share your pain in your loss.

This is a smidge off topic. I don't know whether Cyndi's gliders died from exhaust exposure or not, but I have had this problem in a relatively new, nice car. Because I take my parrots and other animals with me a lot, I put a carbon monoxide detector, just like the ones I have at home, near the floor in my car.

I'm also sorry for asking, but I have NO idea how to contact her any other way. I just feel awful and NEED to know what's going on. It seems there's got to be more going on here that we don't know about which is causing so much more confusion and hurt for us

Ugh, now since NO ONE is saying anything at all about this, I'm really concerned about what all has happened No, not being nosey, just very worried about what could have went wrong here.

I finally found her through the link posted above (DUH) I missed that post somehow, ugh. I was able to get her e-mail from there and just got an e-mail back, so while I still don't know exactly what happened here, I do understand more about the situation and understand that not being here was her choice.

I can also tell you from the e-mail I got from her, she does very much appreciate all the support she has gotten from her GC friends and support is definitely what is needed now.

Just to stop the guessing game of what may have happened to her precious suggies...

I have an update after talking with Cyndi through e-mail, they think the suggies may have overheated, thus causing the suffocation.

She is of course beating herself up over it, but is getting a lot of support which I'm sure is so needed and appreciated right now. We ALL know too well how accidents do and will happen, but no matter, we always think of the "what if's".

God speed to her healing!!!
