Does anyone wanna know how to make a tube bead suggie bridge? If so I guess I can get my booty going and make one laugh (I don't have pictures of it in progress and it's too hard to just explain LOL).

They can be made to any width desired.. 1 bead wide, 2 beads wide, 3.., 4.. you get the picture LOL.

I'm sure if you have enough tube beads LOL! The bridge I made is like.. 2-3 ft long (and I think I used 40-50 beads?). I will make one today, take pictures and post it.

Connie, It is an original idea as I have never seen this type of toy around, not here at GC or on EBay or on any1s website or just plain Internet and I have been in the Glider Community for over 10 years (since 2001). I did not copy this off of anyone. Also the name is original as well.

I offered for anyone to make them for their personal use, Never did I use the term forbid that. I am only stating that (as of may 29th) this is my idea to sell

Liezl, please DO make them!! I would love to see the spin you put on them smile (must have pics) I'm sure the 1s you make will be AWESOME

In part one of this someone asked how to make a pom pom that the strips didn't get pulled out. What I did was cut fleece like I was making a fleece vine,(but not sewing in the middle) and the rolling it up, taking another strip of fleece, tied it in the middle in a double knot. Then use whatever you like to hang it. You get a great pom pom and the middle is tied with the same fleece so the ends blend in with the rest of the pieces.

Thank you Amber, I missed that question. I do the exact same thing with the poms, take a strip of fleece, tied the middle really tight and a double knot. thumb

Holly your name of the chipettes was for sure an original and the things I have been making for yrs do not look at all like what you posted...I was just pointing out that making toys using the chips was not original. I usually pick out the red ones por the black ones to use when i am making things with black and white themes...the black and white chips make excellent polk a dots!!!!

I have to say I've found these tutorials to be very useful laugh I've made quite a few toys so far, for my upcoming baby girl -- and I'm extremely pleased with how they came out! smile

The only problem is now I have wayyy too much extra material left over @_@

Barn Yard Pull Apart

You will need:

2 x 5"x12" pieces of landware net
6 x Cable ties
2 x Long strips 2" wide fleece
7 x Heart links (or similar)
2 x 6" plastic chain
1 x Foraging cup
2 x Bunches of raffia
10x Straws

Instructions:

1. Cut two 5"x12" pieces of landware net

2. Connect the 5" sides of each individual piece of landware net together to create two loops.

3. Secure each loop with 3 x cable ties.

4. Twist the fleece strips all the way around on both loops.

5. Connect the two loops with 4 heart links and 2 strings of plastic chain.

6. Connect two heart links right at the top of the toy to hang it in the cage.

7. Connect one heart link bottom middle of the top loop to hang a foraging cup.

8. Fill the loop with Raffia and stick the straws all over.

Voila!

They don't eat them, but some will chew on them. They are a pretty inexpensive toy that is disposable. When they get chewed on, just stick new ones in there! smile

Great toy idea!!

I saw in Part One the frisbee trampoline, but I don't think I'm up to that level yet. I LOVE the idea of a springy trampoline-like toy for my sugar glider to bounce a little on. Does anyone have instructions for an easier springy toy?

A lady I know made my son an adorable fleece blanket. Its sewn around but then its like she made little holes around it and pulled out stripes of fleece.
So basically a no sew but it was sewn. Anyone use this on glider toys! That would be safer for those who like the no sew look, Because there's no small holes for little heads to get caught in it.
I can post pictures if wanted!

I've seen plans for a new-sew fleece pompom. Has anyone ever tried one of those for suggies?

EDIT: DISREGARD THIS. Haha, I totally overlooked the post that already mentioned it. I'm a dork. tounge

Man, making toys is one of the many reasons (many, many, many, many reasons) I can't wait to get gliders. I love making things, and I like when people can enjoy the things I make. Especially if those people are furry. And not really people. You get the idea. XD

Thanks to Gizmogirl for the help and inspiration! Made my first awesome toys tonight and my guys are loving them so far!

A tunnel for their cage(only modification I made was using fleece for now to hang it as I don't have any chain currently):

And a "toy around" that I made a little bit different:

Step 1: Use a zip tie to secure a piece of fleece over each end of the wire
http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd193/animalloversfb/Sugar%20Gliders/DSC_0557.jpg

Step 2:Wrap strip of fleece around starting at one end and secure with tied strips of fleece.

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd193/animalloversfb/Sugar%20Gliders/DSC_0558.jpg

http://i220.photobucket.com/albums/dd193/animalloversfb/Sugar%20Gliders/DSC_0565.jpg

Repeat starting at other end until fleece overlaps and tie off with another small strip of fleece.

Step 4: Bend at the top to attach a hook and wrap the wire in a spiral:

That is Hardware or Landware Cloth. It can be found in the gardening section (I think) at Lowe's/Home Depot.

I got my wiffle balls at Dollar Tree. You could probably get them at Target or WalMart also....

I have a memory worse than a goldfish. I have been meaning to post pictures and everytime I remember to do it I'm out of the house *smacks forehead*. Yes, you can do it with pony beads. I am uploading the photos now.

Yay!!!! I was thinking that I would use fleece for the string. I know how to make the pony bead key chains, like the animals and stuff. So I think I will do the bridge just like the lacing of the keychains...

I used to make animals out of pony beads all the time when I was little like the above image. I haven't tried making a suggie bridge out of pony beads, but I'm sure it would be just as fun! You would definitely need a lot of beads though smile.

What you will need:
-100 tube beads give or take (depends on how long you want to make it).
-5 yards of rexlace (I prefer to have too much rexlace than too little).

Step 1:

Take one end of the rexlace and slide 2 or more tube beads onto it. Hold them in place, do not let them slide down to the center of the rexlace.

Step 2:

Take the opposite end of the rexlace and slide it through the tube beads.

Step 3:

Pull on both ends of the rexlace until the beads go to the center of the rexlace.

Step 4:

Then to add the ends that attach to the cage, I simply took some extra rexlace, slid one end through the last two tube beads (on each end I did this). Then I added tube beads single file on both sides of the rexlace, took a lanyard hook and tied the ends to the lanyard hook.

I'm not great with instructions so if you have questions, shoot me a PM.

Haha, you made the pony bead animals too? That's exactly where I got this idea from. From like.. 6-10 years old I was OBSESSED with making pony bead animals. Not sure why. But every relative and friend of mine had one of my creations tounge.

Thank you for posting this!! That is exactly where I got the idea to try this too-I just don't get why mine seem to not want to stay together and end up forming a sort of circle-but now that I know forsure I have the right idea I'm going to give her another go-can't wait-thanks again!

uh oh....I just got an idea to try and work this out as a ladder by putting some space in between each row of tube beads...I'm going to try and work that out I think. Yikes. It's embarassing how excited I just got about this.

I found these bike lock cable things in the bicycle section of Meijer for ~$7 each. They didn't seem to have any at the Walmart I went to and I haven't checked Target yet.

I *really* like these because they always return to their perfect shape and they have a perfect bounce to them.

I tied pieces of fleece to it, to make your cookie-cutter fleece vine, only with a nice shape and awesome bounce.

I'm thinking, however, that I'm going to leave these "Naked" and not put fleece on them, I think my gliders will enjoy jumping and bouncing off of them, they have the perfect grip, perfect feel. They even stretch pretty darn far for larger cages. They will be my faux-vines that are super easy to clean! Ah, I just love these! I wish I could find some in pink! Going to google now. Perhaps someone, somewhere, makes them for children's bikes. I bet I can find pink ones somewhere! :lshower:

Hey guys! I'm really new here smile I have 3 gliders and just tried to make my first glider toy! :D How does it look? Does it look safe? I'm finding that the rexlace is kind of stretchy and I'm just not sure if I made this bridge right...

Thanks!

I have a question... I went to Home Depot to find that landware net to make tubes and play things but I found a few different things with different names.... I wasn't sure which is the right product. One netting was 1/2" spaces but it was like plastic coated metal and another was 1" spacing and it was plastic thru and thru. Which is right? Does it matter?

You can use either, depending on the toy that you're making. If you want something more sturdy, go with the one that has the wire in it. If you don't need sturdy, the all plastic one is fine also.

Just keep in mind (expecially with the one that has wire) you have to wrap the edges with fleece when you're done to cover the sharp edges that you cut.

I ordered from Rockport Roost a few times in the past and always will in the future-I had a million questions about how much shipping would be in a million different hypothetical situations (I'll admit it, I'm cheap as hell haha!) and she never got irritated with me at all whatsoever and also helped me figure out how much I could get stuffed into 1 little flat rate envelope so I could get the cheapest shipping possible and THEN on top of all that I ordered this violet color she had at the time and she also threw in some of the regular purple (for free) in case I didn't like the violet color (which I didn't) b/c she didn't care for it herself SO basically.... order from there you'll be glad ya did wink

Hope this is also for sharing. smile A simple no sew flower I made. It's easy to make. Cut out flower shapes of fleece and snip two small holes into the flower. Use Rexlace string of whatever length you want and slip through the two holes. With ends facing you, tie a knot to secure the string. String some beads on the ends & knot them.

I use a drill to make holes in toys. A nail would probably work too.

I was told that galvanized (zinc) coating can cause UTIs when it reacts with urine...is vinyl better? If so, can you find vinyl-coated mesh?

Here is what most people use to make the PVC cages out:
Hardware Net

And this is similar to what I used to make some toys (I can't seem to find it on the Home Depot website at the moment:

Other than braided fleece rope vines, the only toys I made are these baskets

2nd basket with revised hanging method.

First basket, changed the hanging method to like 2nd one, and use for back up 'cause I like the second one better.

Oh it's fun! I really enjoyed setting up a safe & fun habitat for my 2 girls. (I also did enjoy designing my lizard's habitats as well). I guess I like decorating.
