At the end of May I will have had about 4 month with Bella and 3 with Cissy. The progress was slow at first, but in the recent month, I have made true progress with my girls. They jump at the cage door at my sight, want nothing more but to play all day and jump to me when I call them for treats. In the last couple of weeks, although I have made a lot of progress with the girls, I have felt like there were still obstacles I would like to overcome, such as being able to have them recognize me calling them more easily and staying on my body more rather than being overly curious laugh

A technique I recently adopted which I saw on TV when an old man pets his cat while it sleeps is to pet them while they sleep in my hands or in thier pouch. The results spoke for themselves!

After discovering this little trick I went online and found out people do this to help speed up the bonding progress with thier suggies! Its amazing how the subconcious bonding persists through thier sleeping! The girls pay attention to me more and more everyday and we are doing great!

Please do not be discouraged if your own progress is slow, just use love and these little tricks to help the bonding with your babys! If anyone else have little tips please post them here! Thank you!

awsome, I hate to hear when people are having trouble bonding w/their gliders. I found it to be the easiest part of suggie ownership. Getting my gliders back in their cage after ooc time....now that can be an issue...lol

This is one reason I love bra bonding. Because you can pet and talk to them all day long. I definitely think talking to/petting them when they are asleep helps.

Yes bonding was slow for me at first as well, but last night it was actually difficult to get Bella off of me and back into her cage. I had to bribe her with a mealie just to get her back in the cage so I could go to sleep, lol.

I have had Keiko for 5months, everything was great with our bonding process, but now I feel she is completely scared of me and dont know why. I have been doing the same thing, but I also read some place on here not to put your hands in the pouch. so I stopped... I'm just waiting patiently for her to come back around frown

When my monkeys are on me (which is nearly all the time), I am constantly touching them, whether they're awake or not. I've done this from day one and absolutely feel this is an integral part of the bonding process.

I definitely agree with this process! I think it creates a sub-conscious trust bond, they know you're their safety and there to protect them like their mothers were.
I personally can't help but pet them when I carry them around, it's almost instinctual to "comfort" them as they sleep, and it's the only way I can calm them down when they start barking in the middle of the night. Petting them is definitely important and speeds the bonding process greatly.

At first, it's scary for them, for you to put your hand in their pouch. Maybe that's where you heard not to put your hand in?

Start by massaging them through the pouch while they're sleeping. When they're awake, offer them treats, with your hands at the top of the pouch. As they become used to your hands, you can try slipping a hand into the pouch while they're sleeping and gently pet them. If they complain, just leave your hand in the pouch until they stop. When they go back to sleep, pet them again. When they reach the point where they sleep through the petting, you can cup them in your hand. Always move at their pace. This could take a week or it could take months.

The slower you go with bonding, the stronger that bond will end up being.
