The suggies are not crabbing as much (well, Ginger crabs, but that's just her), and they love to snuggle and take snacks during the day, but they aren't playing until they are all alone. Right now they are in the tent, hiding under tha blanket. I tried to get in and play, but they kept hiding. They *usually* play a bit more in their tent, so I can't say it NEVER happens. I don't get to play with them at all, or even get to watch them play in their cage. I know the bonding process takes a while, I'm just frustrated right now!! Any tips on getting them to play with me?

Do you play games with them? Here's a couple our glider kids like

Get some colored straws and put canned mealies (about 3 or so) inside them and hide them around the tent. They go nuts tracking them down! lol (show them the first straw with the mealie towards the end so they get the idea)

You can also put mealies (especially the live ones for this..hehe) inside a wadded up piece of tissue paper or reg. piece of paper and hide those.

Barrel of Monkey's? Gliders love em! Hang em on you and all over and watch em grab em! lol

We also got a few sets of jacks (the big plastic colorful ones) and put those around the tent. They like to play with them.

They love Dollhouses! Donna sent a doll house with Victor and Isabella and WOW!! Now we are going to get one of the Fisher Price Barn houses for them too! (really good prices on ebay)

Infant toys ages 0-3 mos. (sometimes older)

You can look up INFANT LOT toys on ebay and get TONS for a great price! Hope this helps some

OH...and teach them to glide and play Peek a Boo!

oh..and those plastic jingle balls. You can get them at the pet shops or on ebay also. We have like 20 of em! (they look like a cage ball with jingle inside) sold for cats, hamsters etc.

We have the plastic balls, and some other toys. I'll dig out the barrel of monkeys tomorrow, and see how they like that. How do I teach them peek-a-boo? Today was a tense day, and I can tell they're noticing, because they won't come to me, and are more skittish than usual. How do I get them to PLAY with the toys while I'm around. They really don't play with anything until they are all alone, no matter what time I go to bed.

I feel the same way CJ, I am trying to get my guys to play in the tent and all Joey wants to do is run circles around the top and jump on my face. Still waiting for my toys to get here, I ordered a bunch. I am gonna loose it when mine actually start playing, I just can't see him acting like a kitty cat and pouncing and chasing, I can't wait!

The tent is just a junior size dome tent that you can get at walmart. It is the best bonding tool at night as it gives the gliders no choice really but to interact with you. Just make sure to put a blanket on the flooring of the tent so the rustling noise doesnt scare your suggies.

We have a kids bug tent with screens all around, it works better for us as we can actually see out of the tent, there's a little more room atop so suggies can climb higher, we can do more than stoop to step out and there's more air flow.

We did have a juinior tent (Walmart, under $20) but it was really dark, I had to take little lights in with us, and it had little breathing room, I didn't realize it then but the suggies seem to play longer in the bug tent vs. the juinior dome.

You know, Flip used to have the same problem that CJAping's gliders are having. Every time I'd stick her in the tent she's just go run and hide under the big plush beach towel I was using to cover the floor with, and even if I made the space that the towel covered smaller or tried to block her burrowing she'd still go after it and try to hide - it's all she ever wanted to do, even after six months of tent time.

I finally ended up taking both myself and the towel out of the tent so that she had no choice but to explore her environment until she found a new place to hide, and I made sure that I hadn't left any blankets or pouches or anything else that she could immediately crawl into. At first she was really upset with me and wouldn't do anything but run from corner to corner and hide, but after a little while she calmed down a bit and started exploring. I hid treats that I knew she liked in places that she'd not wanted to explore to encorage her to see what all I'd put up for her to play on, and I just sat outside the tent and talked to her and watched her play by herself for the first few nights.

After the first few nights of letting her play by herself I started putting her in and letting her play be herslef for the first half an hour or so, and then once she was comfortable with the tent I'd crawl in and start letting her get used to me. I'd have to take Kleenexes or paper towels or something to make sure that any pee or poop was wiped up by something other than my behind, but other than that I'd just get in the tent and sit quietly. She didn't even try to get out of the tent at first - the sight of me climbing in was enough to make her stay still while I was doing it, and as long as I knew exactly where she was so that I wouldn't accidentally squish her getting in (which I never had any problems with) I was fine. At the end of the night I simply wiped the bottom of the tent down with a dienfectant wipe and let it air dry.

I've been working on this tent thing with Flip for a few months now, but she's now gotten to the point where she actually likes my being in the tent with her to play with, and she keeps giving me this "why aren't you in here with me?" look every time I try to let her play by herself in the tent anymore. She does try to get out of the tent now every time I get in later than she does, so I have to be careful about that, but usually she climbs up my arm and around my back and doesnt' get anywhere else before I'm in the tent and it's all zipped up. I still haven't tried putting the towel back yet; she's used to the rustle of the tent bottom by now, and I don't know if she's going to start hiding again, but I think I'm going to try it out soon.

I don't know if this will help or not, but more new toys never worked for me, so if they don't work for you then you can see if this does.

why do gliders hate rustling sounds so much?? when I ever crawl into my tent, my glider runs around the tent a mile a minute and crabs the whole time, almost as if he will pass out if he keeps it up.

Come to think of it, they were playing more when we first got the tent, because we didn't have a blanket in there for them to hide under. Maybe I'll take the blanket back out, and try your tips, RiverStone. Thanks!

another toy that I love using is a feather teaser. You can make one yourself or buy one at a pet store. It is just a wand type stick with feathers and ribbons at the end of it. They will bounce and pounce on that every time I get it out!

Several of mine just love running around underneath the blanket! I call it playing "bump under the rug" lol I have no idea why they like it so much, but if it makes them happy, it's okay with me. The wider variety of toys they have in there, tho, the less time they spend as 'bumps'. I usually have balls, stuffed toys, fake vines, hangy toys, a rope for them to climb up and down, etc. Still there are nights where the "bump under the rug" game is just what they want to do.
