Thanks Pockets - So just to understand, the HPS is used as the viatmins in the original Leadbeaters? Does anyone have the link to the "original" Leadbeaters? All I seem to find is everyone "modified" version. Do you also use the Small animal food as a supplement to Leadbeaters?

<img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/offtopic.gif" alt="" /> I have a friend in Round Rock that I come visit often -- I'll have to look you up next time I'm in town (that is if RR is Round Rock - lol). <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/dance.gif" alt="" />

What's that? A BOOK authored by POCKETS? Advanced copies availble for first printing download only US$20???!!!???

To where do I send the check, or do you take Visa/Mastercard/American Express?

Pockets, I never seen any posts from you, but every single one of the people I have come to trust the most in regard to Glider care have sounded off about you in this thread, so I'm gonna toss my hat in the ring and follow blindly and attentivly. I have a friend who owns a small publishing company in Conneticut, I'll hook you up. Thanks for sharing all you know.

Maybe they should have a new Avatar name just for you, like the Glider Guider.......

I've reread these posts for half an hour so I guess I'm missing something. Is the recipe posted for PML any where? or where can I get it?

For those who asked. Here is the recipe for Leadbeaters from the Toronga Zoo in Australia. I got it directly from them a year ago. The amounts are for squirrel gliders. They reduce the amount given for sugar gliders by about 1/2.

Leadbeaters Mix (Toronga Zoo, 2004)
Warm Water 900ml
Honey 900ml
Hard Boiled Eggs (shelled) 6
High Protein Cereal 150grms (2 ½ Cups)
Sustagen 6 tsp

Method:

1. Measure out warm water into a 2 litre jug, add honey & mix together until honey has melted.
2. Blend eggs in blender until creamy.
3. Combine sustagen & cereal in a dish.
4. Add 1 teaspoon honey/water mix to blender & blend until creamy.
5. Add dry ingredients & ½ of the honey/water mix to the blender.
6. Add some of the honey/water mix (not all), through the lid opening until the mix is sloppy.
7. Blend for at least 1 minute.
8. Slowly add the remaining honey/water mix until lump free (keep light pressure on the blender lid to prevent leakage).

The daily diet includes:
1. 10 mL of Leadbeaters mix
2. 2 Tbl. of a mixture of equal amounts of apple, banana, kiwi/grape and rockmelon/pawpaw.
3. 1 heaping Tbl. of a mixture of equal amounts of carrot and sweet potatoe and 1/2 the amount of corn.
4. 2 kangaroo cubes, 2 eukanubra kibble, 1/2 tsp fly pupae, and 1 Tbl. shelled egg (on Wednesday)
5. One of the following "extras" per day: Mung Bean (monday), coconut (tuesday), fig (etc.), sultana, alfalfa, grape, honeydew
6. Fresh browse (native tree limbs, flowers, etc)

My understanding is that Sustagen is the same thing as Ensure, and that pawpaw is the equvalent to papaya.

Yes, Pockets, please do post your recipe <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />
~Lynn

Hi Pockets! This sounds like wonderful news! I would be interested in trying your PML diet for a little while. I have been making CML (like BML only with Vionate and Rep-Cal with no VIT D3 -- based on a veterinarian's recommendation); however, sometimes my gliders eat it, and sometimes they don't.

Pretty please -- would you post your PML? Thanks!! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Hi guys
Been away all day!

(I am still tweaking this, as I have a couple of concerns - so bear with me - but this is what I have been using)

"Pockets Modified Leadbeater's"

Warm Water - 450ml (bottled only)
Honey - 400ml
Shelled-boiled eggs - 2 (egg-land's best organic)
Wombaroo High Protein Supplement - 30 grams

I mix the warm water & honey, then add the eggs blend & then add the Wombaroo High Protein Supplement & blend

I am able to change the protein level very easily by adding or subtracting amount in "PML" & I do (will explain at later date)

NOTE: Wombaroo High Protein Supplement contains more than "TWICE" the protein as High Protein Cereal so less than half is needed

I would definately recommend talking with your <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" />'s veterinarian before changing to any new diet addition & before feeding - the above "PML" included

Mi

Too knind Pockets. Remember, this is the Digital Age. All you have to say is" I want a website" and a little PC Genie will pop outta the wodwork with an invoice for about $30 and from there on out it costs next to nothing for the hosting, and all you need to do is the writing. I can get you on the web for about that, with secure server and webpay for product sales, and an FTP for uploading docs and books etc., not to mention the website development tools that are available for free. I don't do much on site building, and although Al Gore invented the internet, I build it( the fiber transmission systems for traffic, anyway!) so have access to lots of interesting people for assistance. Just ask....

How much of PML is recommended for feeding gliders? How is it stored? Do you keep it frozen like BML? Thanks!

1 teaspoon per glider, I do freeze it sometimes, but usually best to mix half the amount & keep in fridge - will keep for 2 weeks in fridge.

"Can be stored for up to two weeks" This is also stated with the original Leadbeater's (Nectar mix) in
'Australian Mammals:Biology and Captive Management' Stephen Jackson 2003

LOL Pockets! I've been offering 1 T per glider, no wonder they won't eat it all! Too much Mommy! I've also noticed that it has increased their appetite for fruit. They never used to eat their fruit - wouldn't even touch it! Now they eat at least half! Course, it could have something to do with the full moon as well.

I use a tiny bit of Neocalglucon weekly, but Wombaroo High Protein Supplement has vitamins in it, as well as I use Nekton Sugar Glider & it has vitamins - have to be careful as too many vitamins is NOT GOOD!

I would recommend talking with your veterinarian! Depends on what else you are feeding your <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/littleglider.gif" alt="" />'s

I also provide Milk thistle extract 3 times a week & use this as a preventive

The "Wombaroo Small Carnivore" ( Small Animal Food ?)
That Wombaroo product is NOT allowed to be imported into the USA!

It took quite awhile to get the Wombaroo High Protein Supplement imported into the USA

Pockets - Are you talking about the insectivore fare type food? If so, that's too bad! I saw it in the pamphlet Geoff sent with my high protien supp & I was really looking forward to checking it out! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Pockets - thanks so much for the info. I talked to my vet yesterday about it and he is anxious to see the HPS when I get it. I have to call Geoff in the AM to give CC info so he can ship. Pockets, I think you should start selling the stuff!! or at least get a commission - lol. I'm going to start my senior pair out on it and see how they do then hopefully switch everyone over evenutally. I'm really excited about it. Mine will eat BML but they just don't seem excited about it. Sometimes their plates are empty and sometimes they barely touch it.

Pockets - I noticed you mentioned Nekton Sugar Glider, I use Nekton Tonic R which my gliders absolutely love. Is the Nekton Sugar Glider new? I was told that it was the Tonic R repackaged - do you know if this is true also?? - My partner and I are opening an exotics shop in the UK very soon and I want to stock only what I consider to be the best glider products - Nekton is on the shortlist, but I would really value your opinion.

Hi Marie

Good question! I don't think so but, just do not know.
I have never used Tonic R - but have used several of Nekton's products for my 19 yr young cockatoo & have used Nekton Sugar Glider for a few years now.
I posted on GC but it was quite awhile ago - I think others here thought I was referring to Nekton Lori!

Here are a couple links (you probably already have)
Nekton Sugar Glider
(The Nekton website has posted this on their website as a new product for several years now) lol

Nekton Products Ing
They do not list Nekton SG's ingredients or Tonic R's

Need your email to send you scanned ingredients info off one of my Nekton SG jars
