There is no such thing, it is a 25% het not 33%. Because you cannot eliminate any gliders because there is no chance for a homozygous recessive with only one parent haing the trait.

.....A 33% Possible het is a term used by breeders to denote that only one of the parents was a 100% or Proven het of the gene being considered and that the resulting punnance square predicts that there is a 33% chance the offspring will be a het for the gene being concidered......

[:"blue"] Chris:
I'm still unclear on this? The above is from one of your posts earlier in this thread. If I understand things correctly, the pairing mentioned above will produce two hets and 2 homozygotes and would compute to 50%.

Additionally, I'm not seeing any pairing that will result in a 25% het. [/]

Technically we are both right but I should not have been refering to hets but homozygotes with regards to 33% I misspoke there, sorry. Below are the only two possible crosses for a single gene het.

Mating A
---A A
A AA AA
a aA aA

Mating B

---A a
A AA Aa
a aA aa

In Mating A there is a 50% chance of getting a het.

In Mating B There is a 25% chance of getting a homozygote recessive or dominate, and a 50% chance of getting a heterozygote; if you cannot distinguish between the recessive and the Hets or Homozygous Dominate.

If you can distinguish between the recessive and the dominate then after the mating there is a 67% chance of having a het and a 33% chance of having a Normal.

Sorry for the confusion it was a late night.

[:"blue"] OK.....I got it now. I can sympathize with the problem of 3 AM posts.....been there and done that!!!

I guess the thing that is most confusing is that the 67/33 thing is ONLY used to describe/predict the possible genetic character of a specific animal of known color after breeding. It is not a number that is commonly used to predict the total outcome of possible pairings PRIOR to breeding.(Although, I think it could be with the use of somewhat more sophisticated math.)

Now that this is out of the way, I'm off to the land of co-dominance, partial dominance and incomplete dominance.....much more complicated issues.....should be a real challenge!! [/]
