beware of the "silent spinner'

Hi everyone. I'm writing to post a beware of silent spinner notice. I bought the large silent spinner and put it on the cage as it directed. It is designed to either be on a stand or be attched to the side of the cage. My gliders loved it and did as they all do...ran in both directions. Well in the morning they were still going strong when I heard a strange noise so I went to look in the cage and saw the wheel teetering about to fall, and as I opened the cage I was right on time to catch the wheel as it fell off with my glider inside. The yellow screw on the inside of the wheel unscrews weather it is on the cage or stand. I went to the petstore to tell them and we tried it in the store, and sure enough the same thing happened on the medium size wheel. I am writing to the company, but wanted to warn all of you. Coul;d be very dangerous, I hate to think of what might have happened if I hadnt caught the thing with my baby inside!

AHHH The same thing happend to me this morning! I guess i will be taking that one back as well. I had a blue Wheel, I dont remember the name but the latch that held it on to the side of the cage fell of a couple of times so i took that back to the store and they said all they can do is replace it with another one or give me my money back so i took my money and bought a silent spinner and now this one falls apart. Well i suppose it is time to order a wodent wheel! Thanks for posting its nice to know that Scooter isnt just some speed demon who breaks everything!

I'd recommend a Stealth wheel over the wodent wheel any day. I've had both & the stealth is the better of the two hands down!

They're a little bit more money but well worth it! I just got my 2nd one today!!

I have had the same problem with my Silent Spinner. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tantrum.gif" alt="" /> I am glad it is not just me! I have gotten into the habit of trying to make it as tight as I can before I go to bed but sometimes during the night I have to redo it. Since my cage is in my room it wakes me up when the wheel starts to rattle around. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

That is so weird b/c I have 4 Silent Spinners and none of them do that. I have even checked the ones at work and nothing... Maybe just some of them are faulty. I mean there are millions of them out there, a few out of a few million are bound to be faulty just like anything else. <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I had the same problem with mine but I use mine in my chinchilla cage. What I did was removed it from the cage and tighted it as tight as I could and I havent had anymore problems with it but I'll be getting a different wheel for both the chinchillas and the gliders.

I am so glad we bought stealths to begin with- I didn't like the wheels we saw in the local stores- noise levels and other things and I love the idea of the trim trax (nail trimming system) on the stealths...

How long did you guys have yours before they fell apart? Just wondering because I've had mine for three months no problems so far

I've had mine for about two weeks now. That happened the first night we got it but it hasn't happened anymore.

if this happens again u can get a liquid thread lock at any hobby store and u can put it on the screw and place the nut on it and it should seal and not come off again unless forced.

I have one for my hedgehog and have had no problems, but I use a Stealth for my glider girls and they love it. I switched to Stealth after I heard of something happening to someone's glider in a Wodent Wheel...it was a tail accident, and I didn't want to take the chance with my girlies.

I love stealth <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> I Switched because wodent at 3 am was the equivalent to nails on chalkboard many times over constantly drilling itself right into my brain. I had complaints from relatives who could hear it over very soft music and I knew it had to go.

lol i have two wodent wheels and they are good and have been safe, however i do agree with the noise lol, my gliders are in my room and i have two wodent wheels so i know what you mean when it comes to the noise but i have gotten used to it, what differences do you guys see between the wodent wheel and the stealth? im thinking of purchasing one <3

The stealth for me is a lot easier to clean, the noise isn't bad in fact the only noise I hear other than barking is the feet making contact with the wheel. At first I was able to tolerate the wodent noise but then I had complaints from my sister who is a heavy sleeper. I also found cleaning the wodent a pain in the rear because I couldn't fit my hand inside to scrub it out. The stealth is more "open" and I really love it. I actually have two stealth wheels and I switch them out on cage cleanings.

Ohh man- you gotta go with the stealth wheel!!!!!!!!!!

There's nothing like it! The wodents are NOISY & they start to stink really fast... not to mention that if you want to thoroughly clean it- which you should do quite often since it gets so stinky- you have to completely take it apart <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/mad.gif" alt="" /> Any poo or pee that your glider decides to unload while in the wheel- stays in the wheel with them & they just run on it <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />

I bought a wodent wheel as my first wheel & soon after switched over to the stealth- it's more money but it's worth every penny and then some! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thumb.gif" alt="" /> I have two now and will be getting two more shortly...

Not to mention the fact that with a stealth you can actually see your babies running in it because it's so open- they're not hiding behind that front piece with the mouse hole doors.

Which one is the "silent spinner?" Does anybody have a picture of it or a link so I can see if it's what I have? Thanks

WOW! This is unsettling. I have three Wodent Wheels, and I have been very happy with them, until I read the post about the mutilated tails, and I got spooked and bought two Silent Spinners. They took my gliders some time to get used to, but I love how easy they are to clean and the QUIET that comes along with them. To date, I have not had any problems at all with my Silent Spinners, but then, I hadn't had any problems with my Wodent Wheels either... I guess, like anything, just keep an eye on them and do routine inspections. Now, truth be told, I want to TRY the Stealth, because I have heard so many great stories about them, and I just want to see "just how good they are."

However, I have to say that I like BOTH the Silent Spinner and the Wodent Wheels. Each have their benefits. I think Spinner is quieter, and it's more easily cleaned; however the "posture" of the thing (and mine are attached to the cages) is just "aesthetically odd." The WWs are neat, and my gliders are NUTS because one likes to "catch a ride" on the outside while someone "drives" - silly things.

The silent spinner had another accident luckly my fiance(bigdaddyoffive) got to it in time this morning before it fell onto our chins(poor things)! We are definatly getting a different wheel and soon.

I am so glad I read this post. I was gonna buy the wodent wheel on ebay (luckily they don't accept paypal) I will definitly buy the stealth. I love this website!!! Also if I am getting 2 gliders should i get 2 wheels?

Two wheels isn't necessary in my opinion... They'll take turns & also use it together! It's a lot of fun to watch when two decide they wanna go for a jog at the same time! <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/roflmao.gif" alt="" />
