Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo!

Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 03:19 AM

Well everyone, I had to share with you b/c I just got back from Wal-Mart for a fleece run to line the bottom of my incubator (I'm paranoid and wanted more just in case). Anyhoo, they have A TON of fleece now and I asked an associate why and they said b/c it's Halloween season and time for making costumes. You all wouldn't believe how cheap it is too! Fleece is going at Wal-Mart for $2.94 a yard! That's such a good steal, and the associate said it should be most if not all Wal-Marts who have this deal b/c all prices are usually the same.

I had to share with ya'll b/c I know we all use a lot of fleece. Stock up! I'm sooo- excited that I have to go back tomorrow for more! They have every color under the Sun as well as very cute prints. I'm talking about taller than me and about 3 craft aisles full of it!

Okay, I'm done rambling...

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 03:39 AM

I will be happy to check the Super Wal-Mart down the street from me. I live in a college town so we are stocked on everything. I can pick some up for you if you'd like. :o) Separate colors of orange and purple or mixed in one print?

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 03:52 AM

Oh thank you so much.....I just called our local walmart and they said no no fleece on sale. If you could get me some solid orange and purple or even a mix if possible I will gladly pay you for it. I live in a small army town so we dont have much and what we do have is outrageously priced.
If I go to the local hobby lobby it will cost around $9 a yard. I am going to look online but if you could ge tit I will be very very appreciative.

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 04:09 AM

Ouch!!!! $9/yard???? Dang girl, no way 'am I letting you pay for that! I know I saw some tonight solid colors and I saw a Halloween pattern that was solid purple with black webs and Halloween designs on it.

It should be $2.94/yard and then we can figure out specifics on shipping, address, etc. later. I will PM you when I get it tomorrow! :o) How much do you want of it?

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 04:15 AM

It's $9 a yard here, too! Even at Wal-Mart. Not fair! I'll go tomorrow and see if it changed, though!

I need new fleece to make blankies and no-sew pouches with. This is a sign!! I think it's telling me to go shopping again! lol

I cant believe how much they want for it. It is outrageous down here in good ol Texas.lol

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 04:41 AM

I work at WalMart and I picked up some fleece tonight as well. It was a couple remnants and unfortunately, it wasn't on sale I'll have to go take a closer look tomorrow, but I doubt any of ours is on sale either. Every once in a while, we getting a lighter weight fleece in that is much cheaper and great for sewing, but it's very rare...

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 04:45 AM

Wow! I'm so surprised. The associate told me that most if not all Wal-Marts would have the same prices. They weren't on sale, but they were just great prices!

The lighter fleece I find works really well in the summer season and it's sooo- soft. LOL It also works well when making the seamless pouches since you're doubling up on the fabric.

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 06:22 AM

Could prices be more expensive b/c you're closer to the gulf coast??? Maybe they are short on supplies and or fabric? Just a thought, maybe I'm just not used to spending $9 a yard for fleece. LOL

The most expensive I have ever seen up here for cute prints is $7.50 a yard.

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 07:59 AM

The Walmarts around here had fleece at that price a few years ago. It's pretty much every fall. The fleece that is under 3 dollars usually is on the thin side. Speaking of sides just make sure you check it on both sides. Last year they had some but it was fleecy on only one side the other was like a knit. the under 3 dollars works good for the pouches we make b/c they are double pouches. But my mom also made me some fleecy sheets for my bed. Now when I sleep on them I dream I'm a suggie all suggled down in my comfy fleece pouch.

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 12:03 PM

I avoid wal mart like the plague- personal issues, a) location b) treatment of minorites and GBLT rights... but wow.. thats a great price.. not worth the 40 minutes in a car to find out if they have it though...

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 12:34 PM

khyricat, you can always call a head and see if they have it at that price. A lot of stores will even cut it and have it waiting for you...

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 12:51 PM

I am still not sure I want to support them.. and I just ordered 21 yards of fleece off ebay - 7 yards each of 3 colors to use for cage sets for the new glider room and pair of cages.. less then 75$ including shipping to me! which actually wasn't much more!
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 01:27 PM

I've always found great deals on Ebay. The last time, I found an auction for fleece, the seller lived about 40 minutes from me. The auction was for 17 yards of fleece, assorted colors and prints. I got the entire thing for $20.
Posted By: Anonymous

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 01:34 PM

thats an even better deal then the 3 I've made.. but the 64" fleece I got 5.5 yards of (all the seller had) a few months ago was a great deal too because it drops all the way to the floor behind the cage not just to the level of the bottom of the cage like 60"

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 03:07 PM

WOW!

I never thought of checking ebay for fleece... I am going to go to Walmart this weekend and check it out though! Hopefully they have a ton like yours does!

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/15/05 04:00 PM

I have been getting lots of remnants of fleece at JoAnn's Fabrics, many of them up to 75% off. The price on the fleece would be cut in half, and another discount at checkout. For some reason, not every single remnant has the same discount percentage, but hey, at least they are giving us some money to keep in our pockets! I cut as many pouches as I can and use the rest of the fleece as blankets.

Our Wal Mart has fleece for 2.95 a yard too!

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/16/05 12:01 AM

Thank goodness.... I bet everyone thought I was crazy! I'm glad someone else I can take advantage of the fleece! Yippee!

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/16/05 01:23 AM

Bummer, I stopped at JoAnn Fabrics, and they had fleece on sale at like $4.99 a yard (solid colors, anti-pill), but I was holding out for Wal-mart, because I thought it was cheaper at $2.94 per yard. Surprise! Ha! It was $7.94 a yard, but by the time I walked all over Super Wal-mart, I was too daggone tired to drive back up to JoAnn's.... grrrr. I'll just have to try again tomorrow, or over the weekend.

: my senior class is SUPER EXCITED to start making pouches for Hurricane Katrina gliders (which we're going to donate - thanks to Suz!)

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/16/05 02:26 AM

[:"green"]My WalMart only has fleece at $7.94 a yard, too. But I didn't see anything for Halloween yet, so maybe it's still coming (*hope, hope*). I did, however, find some little fleece "receiving blankets" at WalMart for $1.00 each. They are solid, pale colors and are 30" x 30". I picked up a half-dozen today to bring to the Michigan Glider Get Together on Sunday. I figured we could cut them up & use them for no-sew pouches for the Katrina project. (I am soooooooo looking forward to Sunday's gathering!!!)
I think when I'm in Holland, MI on Saturday, I'll have to make a run to my mom's Wally World to see if they have the cheap fleece...

Sounds like such a fun project!!! If I weren't swamped over here hand raising these twins and still introducing my females, I'd help! Man, now I'm disappointed... Will you do this again? I'll totally be in!

Great idea, Suz! I will try that tomorrow at the Waverly Walmart, lol.

[:"purple"] [/] I was just going to mention these. I saw them in the GEM store near me and bought one to try the no sew pouch. It is lighter weight than my other pouches but should be good for a back up and/or warmer weather.

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/16/05 03:26 AM

I actually like to sew with the lighter fleece b/c I make them seamless and double up and it all fits under the foot of the sewing machine. LOL Blaze likes them b/c they are softer than polar fleece, and still does not pill. I checked the other side to see if it was knitted and it was not. Thanks for the heads up on that...

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/16/05 11:47 AM

good points guys- I use the 4.97 stuff whenever its on sale at hancock or joanns and I should go again- they put remnants on sale at the same time typically

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/16/05 02:34 PM

$2.74 a yard in Morton, IL Super Walmart last night. They had a ton of different colors too. It wasn't with the regular fleece, they had it on the rack where they have the $1 and $2 clearance rolls. It is thinner, but at $2.74 it's a great buy!

Dang, that's cheaper than mine! LOL

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/17/05 12:08 AM

no luck at walmart.... everything was $8-$10, but i made out like a bandit at joanns! they must have just put out remnents and i walked away with about 8 different peices for $15...can't beat that. I LOVE remnents... it is always like a treasure hunt

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/17/05 12:52 AM

Ditto! I love remnants at JoAnn's too! I like having a variety instead of too much of one thing. The last time I was there, I brought home alot of fleece and some cotton to coordinate with for just a little over $10. Gosh, I love that store! Hmmm, I wonder if they would give me an employee discount on top of all of those discounts had I gotten a job there!

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/17/05 03:32 AM

I love the remnant bins at all the stores! They are the perfect size, usually, for at least one pouch, and a blankie or two!

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/17/05 03:41 AM

I never thought of getting myself to dig through the reminence pile, but I went there the other night to do so and that is when I found all that cheap fleece! I bought a cute soccer pattern for the joeys to put in their incubator and had enough to make 2 small joey pouches, a few blankies, line the bottom of the incubator, and I still have about 1/2 a yard left!

None of my friends understand my obsession with fleece. I always say, "Trust me... Fleece is like a gold mine to me!" hehehehe

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/17/05 03:42 AM

Well, I finally got my fleece this evening! Close to 10 yards (9.41 yards to be precise). It was $4.44 a yard. My seniors are totally excited! I picked out a beige background with light brown stars (since that is close to our school colors). Once we get everything done, I'll have to snap some picks of our pile of pouches!

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/17/05 03:43 AM

I love the remnants, too, but I wanted a BUNCH, lol. The remnants I find are just maybe a yard or so.

Awwww!!!! What a wonderful idea! If I were a better seamstress I would offer to help, but they'd be better off without my pouches! hahahahaha

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/18/05 02:34 AM

Well, they put out the $2.79 fabric today at work. There are 10 colors to choose from. I think I'm going to get a couple yards of each...

Off topic: Your avatar is what my babies look like. LOL

Okay, back on topic now: Wal-Mart had the thin stuff for $2.49 now and man is it soft! I bought a whole bunch last night and even noticed that the thick fun prints were only $4.44 a yard! Woo hoo!!!

PM me if you want me to pick some up for ya'll and I can send them out... We can arrange shipping and payments through PM as well. :o)

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/18/05 07:20 AM

I found Joanne's here today. 75% off the remnants! Thanks ya'll! Now I've done that and figured out how to thread the sewing machine, so I'm getting there!

Re: Cheap Fleece! Woo Hoo! - 09/18/05 03:01 PM

Yeppers, I have a ton of fleece (well, it seems that way, lol). We have a nice creamy ivory background with rust-colored stars. My students know that I have critters and they have fallen in love with my gliders, and they want to do what they can to help.

On a side note, another organization in our county is making up blankies for children in need in our county for Christmas.

edit: Yeah, that's what my fleece is, the heavier weight at $4.44 a yard.
