Herptivite and Rep-Cal longevity - 09/11/06 09:33 AM

Hi everyone!

My gliders are on the BML diet so I used Herptivite and Rep-Cal Calcium supplement.
Does anyone know how long you can keep these vitamins/supplements once open? I've got mine since February and I wonder if they are still ok ...

There should be an expiration date on the jar. I know with most of the vits I have purchased their shelf life is usually a few years.

Is there an expiration date anywhere? I wouldn't keep them longer than a year due to the possibility of decreased potency in some of the vitamins. Most "human grade" vitamins are stable about that long, sometimes a little longer (about 2 years on average). Although I can't say for sure if that is too long Herptivite, or if they are really stable longer than that. Maybe someone else knows a little more??

I don't remember having read anything like an expiration date on the jar ... That's why I was asking <img src="/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />

Well actually I've just asked my boyfriend, who is at home today, to check the expiration date. It says august 2007 ... But do you think that the vitamins will still be ok even if the jar is open? I thought D vitamin was quite fragile ...

I don't know about specific vitamins, but if the jar says August 2007, I'd feel comfortable with that. After opening, store it in the fridge. Make sure it's tightly sealed.
