Okay so Meg has a cage for me right now.

Since it really should be bigger I have been researching my options. I have discovered the Reptarium! They say that they should be only for temporary use but others here say that they have it as a permanent home?

You just can't beat the size and price! And if I get an extra screen... It will be so easy to toss it in the laundry to clean! I am already thinking of ways to rearrange the room to fit iot in. That antique chair... Who needs it. I never sit in it anyway .

They say the main concerin it the gliders chewing their way out of the cage.

Meg are they "chewers"?

First..welcome to Glider Central!

Second: I'm going to move this to Housing and Accessories, so you get a better response.

Third..a reptarium is great..AS LONG AS you don't have a chewer. A friend of mine..her gliders chewed their way out. So keep a close eye on it and you may end up in a hard cage, anyhow. I use mine only for travel, but I do know many use them as a permanent home. I only use it with my non-chewers, tho.

[:"blue"] I have to wonder who "they" are

Anyway, I have used reptariums as permanent housing for several years and love them. My gliders are happy and they are not chewers. If you have a way to find out if they are chewers, that would be wonderful. Most of us just have to take our chances and see what happens.

There is a thread going now about the 260 rept that will give you some good information. [/]

If you dont have chewers definitely get the rep!!! I have had mine in one for over a year anow and never a problem. Mine will occasionally chew on things out side of the cage or within the cage but have never chewed ON the cage. So i think just testing a rept out is the only way to know for sure. My first glider Kiwi had her own room in our last apartment and we cleared everything out except her cage and a few other things and she got free roam. Well one morning I couldnt find her and she had chewed her way into a taped up VCR box and was sleeping IN the box. But like I said she has never chewed on the cage. So every glider is different I guess.

Annette....as far as I've seen, the Joeys are not chewers. Their parents are not chewers either....So I would go for the reptarium if you feel like it's a good option for you. I think they will be fine, and if they aren't, you can still have the 2x2x3 to keep them in until you can get something better lined up. I would probably get the reptarium though....I feel kinda dumb that I didn't consider one of those for my guys.

ha ha "they" where actually someone who sells them. I suspose they where just covering their bases so if someone buys one and their gliders chew their way out they are to liable for whatever happens.

I actually read the other thread which is what made me consider using them as a perminant home. before that I just took "thier" word for it.

It looks like it wont be to hard to set up the cage and hang toys and things eather.

I can sew a little and fleece is very fogiving. I just wish I could get a closer look at some of the toys in the pictures. I am going to check out some other posts about making toys for more ideas

[:"blue"] Feel free to ask about anything in mine you might be interested in because I don't sew so it was purchased or given to me. I'm also a big bargain hunter so nothing in mine is expensive except perhaps the sleeping pouches and even those are very reasonable, IMO. [/]

i had a 5x2x3 cage, pvc wire.

it was a great cage, great space, great height.

horrible to clean!

since i've moved (always had a reptarium on hand) i abandoned the large cage, and have been using the reptarium exclusively.

it's a work in progress, but the kids love it. getting some of that plastic hardware cloth, i have high hopes for it.

i just don't connect anything to the mesh, nothing easier than pulling it off the bars every week - and for day to day? dustbuster/minivac (removing pouches with gliders first of course)

works out great though.

And for me.. the ease of cleaning
