Well about a week ago a new baby from same parents had a baby and now she alittle bigger lo and behold a swoop on her to but the opposite way,and hair loos on the side of her nose to.Is this some dna mix up or somthing Its adorable cause you can always tell them apart from other babies but it seems alittle wierd I figured once was a coicdense(sp) but 2x in a row weird.

That is really cute. I can't think of a reason why this is happening. Are you positive there is no inbreeding and mom and dad aren't related? Maybe someone with more genetic experience will come along to help. You have got a cute baby though!

I know I am a sucky pic taker but her swoop actually connects to the side of he eye ppl at the ohio gathering suz and so on saw her and the stripe that stops at the middle of thhe head continues down and connects to her eye so it looks like a swoop and she was missing hair on the side of her nose where her whisker were

Are you positive there is no inbreeding and mom and dad aren't related? I would also guess that they are somehow related. - Even if you got them from two different breeders, one breeder could have bought gliders from the other...

either way it's cute... i don't know much about genetics so i have no idea on the reasoning but if everyone is leaning towards being related I would see if you can find out a bit more about where they came from

There is nothing physically wrong with the glider, just the fur pattern is a little unusual. There are plenty of gliders with zigzag stripes, breaks in stripes, and other things of that nature and nobody accuses them of being inbreed... I think it's a cute little quirk of nature.

I think the reason for encouraging more knowledge is that so little is known about the petstore one.
It is generally strongly discouraged to breed or allow to breed gliders from unknown background. Petstore gliders are considered, unless you know otherwise, the same as mill bred gliders.
So, usually the males are neutered to prevent breeding.
Is it inbred? Only further research would tell. It certainly has the characteristics of being genetic.

Why are you all so quick to assume inbreeding? If every time a different colored glider got disregarded because it was assumed to be inbreed, there would be no WF's, mosaics, leus, etc. Just because this baby is different does not mean it's inbreed or defective.

Leyna- In fact, I said i wasn't assuming inbreeding.
I said it seems genetic. IE: it seems to be a genetic trait. When it happened once, it was a quirk. For it to happen again, implies there is something in the parents' genetics that causes this to happen.

Well, you are asking if it is a DNA mixup. It is difficult to change or alter DNA. Doing so causes big problems - not color changes. More like Birth Defects. So, I replied it sounds genetic. Genetic because, the way genes are passed from parents to children, not ALL children of those parents share ALL the traits of those parents. However, all the children share SOME of the traits of each parent. It sounds like there must be a genetic thing for the swoop. Not all their babies would have it - just like all my kids don't have green eyes. But SOME of their kids would have it if it is genetic - like one of my kids has green eyes! I'm not trying to talk down or baby talk you. Just explain what I meant. Just because a trait is genetic does NOT imply that the gliders are in-bred. However, it doesn't rule out that they are.

Allison, I agree with ValkyrieMome... I think it is definitely a genetic trait that is being exhibited in some of the offspring - you're just lucky that it's been twice in a row It's very cute

I am going to be the bad guy and say it. These glider should not be breeding. These would be considered rescues by most ethical breeders standards. Please look in to fixing dad.
