Ok I have a HUGE dilema... I really really want to let my babies have the run of a WHOLE room instead of just the tent or the sitting area in our room. My hubby would like to be able to see them out with the family instead of just me all the time. But the problem, is I am TERRIFIED that they wont come back to me. In the tent and in the sitting area they hardly every leave me period and they ALWAYS come back to me if they get startled by any simple thing but those are enclosed areas and they dont have much choice. What if they wont come to me when they are in the living room? than what? My hubby says that I am silly and they would come back to me but they do NOT come to me when I call their names at all. Not in the tent, sitting room nor the cage. And although they purr, and snuggle with me when I have them in their pouch during bonding time at night when they are in the cage they always go to the back of the cage instead of the front to me. So how exactly do you know? do you just have to step out there and take the chance? HELP PLEASE!!!!

well it sounds like your babies are bonded to you if they are snuggling and purring. you might want to glider proof a bathroom as a next step since it's bigger than a tent but smaller than a whole room. my babies are still bonding with me and it varies from day to day, but they always jump on me and then leap on the next thing. to put them away i do a couple things. if they jump on me in a place where i can just guide them to the door of the cage, i do that and then give them a worm. or they have a toy they love to climb in. when they do, i put the whole toy in the cage. and there have been a few times i've had to scoop them up and put them away. i try not to chase them and be patient. as reinforcement for jumping to me, they get a mealie whenever they come to me. they don't know their names yet i don't think, but they know they get a treat when they are on me. i think it's working. you should be ok if it's glider proofed but i'm no expert. have treats handy and try not to chase them. also, don't be surprised if they don't want to play for awhile. mine were nervous when we moved out of the tent. or, they will go nuts exploring. either is normal and as long as they are safe, i wouldn't worry too much. wish mine purred with me! good job.

[:"green"] Hello !!!! My pal Ranger is out with me very often. I am always cautious regarding distractions. Now, when I do not feel him on some part of my body, I say "Where's Ranger ??? I don't see him..." and he'll pop back up on my shoulder. If there is a loud noise or a doorbell, etc. he may bolt. I have been successful in that he will return to me but worry until he does. I never take my eyes off him. From my experience, you must always try to anticipate .... For example...He will bolt if I pick up the digital cam. They are so small & lightening fast so you always have to be careful. I do not have a Glider Proof room. [/]

If you are fairly certain the room is glider proof, then its just a matter of giving it a try . Be sure the couch cannot be gotten into, and any speakers...so on. They will be VERY curious and rambuctious first few times with so many new things to check out, but eventually if given the chance often enough, they will learn the room and it becomes easier. Alot of times having their pouch with you, in case you need to get them out of harms way, works...offer it, and most times they will climb right in. Try to offer your arm for them to come to also...they learn habits fast. You will be fine...albet a tad exhausted the first few times though .

Sure do appreciate the advice ya'll. Gonna try it out tomorrow night. I want to go through it all day tomorrow to make sure it is totally proofed...but...what if they leave the living room and go into a different room of the house? Oh brother

What has helped with me, is I wear the same fleece jacket or blanket that the glider pairs have scented when we play. Most of the time they will play *on me cause of their scent everywhere...and they have free run of the room. It really works well...that might be a security blanket for them too.
