So tonight at 11pm my cat got a hold of my sugar glider front paw and I’m not sure if it was just a scratch or bite. I’ve read cat saliva is toxic and can be fatal to sugar glider. I’m ashamed to say this has happened once before to the same girl about two/three years ago and fortunately it was only a scratch but looked way worse. Took her to a vet who had no knowledge on sugar glider but agreed to look at her as I didn’t know any vets in my town who look at exotics. I have 4 cats and only one is obsessed with them and is the one Molly had her previous cat scratch from. I do my best to keep my cats away from them especially her. I have to put her away during the night so she can’t go after the girls. The last incident was a complete accident as she got out of the room when one of my family members went into the room. It is my fault for not paying attention to the time. It didn’t help that my girls sleeping schedule has changes between 11:15pm at the earliest and 11:45 at the latest and i always manage to put my cat away before they wake up. But tonight they wanted to wake up at 11 and I thought I had enough time before they woke up. Next thing I know one of my girls is crabbing and my cat is up against the cage. I ran into panic mode and wasn’t able to be sure if she was bitten or scratched or both. I quickly put away my cat and Molly cleaned her wounds back in the pouch. Molly is my feisty little girl, she protects the cage and her sister.
I put her into a separate pouch to see the wound. There is a puncture mark on her finger but not bleeding. Then i noticed in the first picture i posted of fur sticking up. I went to recheck the wound and saw the small cut further up her arm. She is not bleeding, and I used a damp paper towel to wipe the wound. Is there any thing else i can do to clean this?
I gave her some treats before supper. She is drinking water, eating and climbing around the cage. I’m shaking and scared to death. I don’t have an emergency vet that would see a sugar glider let alone an exotic vet. The only vet I have in my town that will actually look at sugar gliders opens in the morning. I have updated this many times and then rewritten since I have calmed down. I’ll continue to observe her tonight as I am night owl.

You need to get her in to the vet as soon as possible. She is going to need antibiotics. Even though it doesn't look bad, the bacteria in a cats mouth and claws is deadly to sugar gliders.

Just a small update. I called the vet 8am this morning and they told me to bring her in, so as of right now she is at the vet’s office. I’m just grateful the vet is gonna see her despite her busy schedule today.

I’m sorry about adding the dosage, didn’t realize this was a problem. I will definitely continue to keep and eye out for her and signs of swelling and overgrooming! She’ll be going on day 3 of antibiotics and though she doesn’t like it, I’ll reward her with some yogurt drops afterwards. Hope everyone has a good 4th of July!
