Hello everyone. I will be getting sugar gliders around the end of February, so I am very excited. I am currently deciding between BML, Critterlove Plus, and Critterlove original. I liked these two diets. since I've read that they have been through testing. My worries about the first two options was that they use vitamin k3, which I have heard can be harmful to sugar gliders. Other than that, I do like BML, as it seems easier to see all that is in the diet (besides the reptile supplements), while with the Critterlove diet it seems to be mostly just a powder. Any advice or experiences is appreciated. I've also heard that some people modify the diets, or even make up their own, so if anyone could give me some insight on that as well, it would be appreciated.

This link from glider nursery may help understand and help with your questions.

Shelly words it correctly, and I couldn't say it better:

http://www.glidernursery.com/nutrition.html

It covers BML and Critterlove.

If you have questions or concerns after reading this, please ask.

I hope this is helpful

Quick question that has been on my mind as of late. I did some research on what sugar gliders would eat in the wild, and I was wondering if anyone tried to replicate that diet. I'd imagine that a diet as close as possible to what they would eat in the wild would be best.

Given that we are in the United States it would be very hard to give them what they eat in the wild. Plus our domesticated gliders don't need that.
Our gliders have been bred in the United States for over 30 years, their nutritional needs are very different from their wild counterparts.

I personally feed Critterlove Plus with Salads 1 and 3 from the salad mixtures you can find in the resources part of the Critterlove web site.

My gliders have been part of the continued testing of the Critterlove diet, just did blood draws again a few months ago.

It can't be duplicated unfortunately.

Many have asked, so I did the research.

First, the life expectancy is only 6 years in the wild.

Second, their environment is rather harsh and their diet consists of what the season is and what's available. Temperature, rain, and drought are big factors too.

Females hold embryos for up to a year waiting for perfect food conditions... Life in the wild can be feast or famine.

It's actually kind of sad for them in many ways.

Since they are aborial, it's difficult to observe them in the wild too.

Like opossums here, they are creatures of opportunity when it comes to food. They can survive on carrion, eat just bugs, rob a bird nest, catch the roosting bird, or basically look for what their body may need and hope they can live without it until it's available.

They can also go into torpor when food is low in order to survive.

Thank you. I think I will go with Critterlove plus, I've heard that it is the "improved" version of the original HPW, and having read that vitamin k3 is safe, I feel more comfortable feeding it.

I struggled with diet a lot a few years ago and finally decided on CL. I use the plus and the complete.
We travel a lot for work so the complete is perfect when we run out of plus. Since doing this, I find the gliders eat both really well. I can taste the difference, but they don't. So I'm guessing their body needs what all is in the staple.

I usually make salad #3. I have made the other salads when the ingredients are in season, or is available fresh.

My gliders do eat their salad better when I freeze the kale, bokchoy or other cabbages/ leaves separately from the sweeter fruits/vegs.

Good to know. I plan on doing a different salad each week for variety, and I'll probably go with the Plus, since I've heard it lasts longer.

Since you feed the critter love diet, I’m wondering if you can answer this question. I have been using it for years, and gliders seem fine, but when I make it I always feel like I’m doing something wrong. I mix in a blender and it foams up so I have to wait a day to pour it in the ice cube trays. The product separates and it seems like the nutrition sits on the bottom. I mix before putting in the trays, but it seems like it should stay mixed. How do you make yours?

Blend it on medium instead of high. We do get a little foam, but then we don't freeze it.
