Hey everyone, even though I've had gliders for 3+ years I've never had to travel with them. I've taken maybe 2 single over night trips and just stocked up their food and dry treats for those times and all was good. Next week I'll be traveling 12 hours away for 4 nights so that's too long to leave them at home. I have travel cages with covers in the process of being set up and a bin of necessities to take with us. They are on the critterlove complete diet so that will be easy to make on the go. I have the dehydrated salad and pellets from critterlove as well. Is there anything I should know or prepare for that fellow travellers can suggest to help the trip go as smooth as possible? I plan on putting them into the travel cages the night before we leave as it will be 4am when we head out. I will use their smelly currently in use fleece items so they have the smell of home with them. Any more tips?

Take their stinky fleece so they have familiar smells. Glider proof the room they will be staying in.

How many days will you be gone? Take a wheel if you can or a treadmill. Foraging toys. Treats. Bottled water. Apples slices for the trip.

I do plan on using their smelly fleece items. I'm going to change their fleece out this weekend and let them smell it up for a few days until we leave Wednesday morning. We will be traveling most of the day Wednesday as it's a 12 hour drive. We will be staying 4 nights then heading back home. The cages will definitely have wheels and toys. I plan on using bottles water because I do at home too. They will be in their travel cages during the drive which I will use bungee cords to secure, so they will have access to their water and dry snacks, but I'll add some apple slices for good measure. So I guess most things are covered. I also have a few things packed just in case of injury, e collar, a way to split a cage if needed, vetrycin, etc. My only question now is how should I glider proof the room? It will be a 2 room hotel suite with a full kitchen. I dont plan on having them out much because i do worry about wandering off. I plan on just hanging out with them while they are in their pouches nice and safe with me.

Last but not least, you may want to use a sheet or blanket to cover the cages so they aren't in the direct sun while driving. It gets warm in the backseat of the sun hits their cage/pouch.
Have you made plans for human pitstops? Please be aware it is summer and the gliders should never be left in the car unattended. It gets hot in there real fast this time of the year.

Each cage has a light gray cover to sheild out the sun. The cages will be near the rear of our expedition next to our daughter, so if she mentions it's too hot we can adjust the air. We're traveling 8 deep! Two adults, 3 kids and 3 gliders across 3 states for 12 hours, hopefully it all goes smooth. We will be taking some pit stops but not long ones, just fuel and rest room breaks and don't plan on turning off the vehicle, except for when pumping fuel of course . Thanks again everyone!

Hi, it actually went pretty well. All of the gliders slept for most of the driving during the day. The day we drove out the temps were reaching 104. We had the a/c on with a usb fan plugged in to circulate more area where they were. My eldest child was sitting right next to them and would tell us if they were moving about and informed of on the temps in the back of the suv. I'd peek in at all our quick gas full up stops and give little treat or pet and back to sleep they'd go. We didnt stop for more than 15m at any time. The bathroom in our hotel was completely sealed so, no worries about gaps around a sink pipe or anything like that. We were able to bring them out with no problems and even the strange environment didn't seem to effect them much. If I had to pick one thing that was off, it would be that none of them ate that great. They drank the critterlove at night, but we gave them the critterlove dehydrated salads that were rehydrated for their f/v, but they barely ate any of it. It could have just been their normal low period of eating or that it was just different than the fresh/frozen they are use to always getting. We had no emergencies, which I had tried to do my best to prepare for just in case, so that's awesome. Overall the entire trip with them went very well, and I wouldn't hesitate traveling again with them.
Thanks for asking!
Anyone have any first time travelling with gliders stories to share?
