I had just posted elsewhere that my glider had lost weight and became very active. Now he is still active and getting up during the day but he has diarrhea. He is drinking a lot, so I’m thinking he is dehydrated. I have an appointment on Thursday for him , but should I take him to emergency? I have taken my gliders to several do tires, and they really are clueless. My doctor is closed. Any thoughts on what this could be. He is housed with three other gliders who seem fine.

I would schedule a vet visit with your normal vet as early as possible next week. Have them check for parasites and Giardia.

In the mean time you can give him canned pumpkin, no spices. Canned pumpkin is good for both diarrhea and constipation. You can freeze the unused portion of the can in ice cube trays and then dump them into a freezer bag to have on hand.

I am moving this to Health & Hygiene, please update us after you take him to the vet.

Oh, if one has parasites or Giardia treat all the gliders in the cage.

Should I separate him from the other gliders, or just feed them all pumpkin

I’m afraid if I separate him it will make him worse.

They can all have pumpkin, don't stress him out by taking him away from his buddies. It won't hurt the others to have pumpkin.

You have been given great advise from Feather.

Mocha is still eating and drinking. I could not get into our regular doctor, but someone else in the office. I’m not sure I should just wait for my regular, as I have not had any luck with other doctors. Most say they know sugar glides, but in the end I know more. Does anyone have a specific doctor in Michigan that they know is knowledgeable. My regular dr is dr grzowski.

I have been to several that treat sugar gliders but did not know as much as I do, so I’m leary unless someone has actually used that doctors. I go to canton center, and dr grzowski is the first one who knew them. He isn’t available until tomorrow. They have another exotic dr in the office, but the assistant said they treat differently, which tells me they don’t consult each other. If you have another specific recommendation, please let me know. I will try them, but only if someone had tried and had success with that doctor.

Right now mocha is eating apple and he has been eating and drinking. I also gave him pedilite and he drank some. He keeps getting up, which is unusual and worrisome. I have an appointment with dr g tomorrow afternoon.

Is it common for a sick glider or dehydrated glider to be so busy. I took the foursome ont on me and he won’t settle down.

I took mocha to the vet. He has a mass on his liver or in the stomach area. Without exploratory surgery they don’t know what it is. I am giving him steroids and antibiotics for the next couple weeks to see if it is an infection. Unfortunately I’m going out of town in 11 days for 2 weeks so I can only give him 10 days worth. I am Hoping my daughter will be able to come over. She’s the only one that will handle them. Mocha is the sweetest boy, so pretty easy to give meds to.
Praying that it’s an infection and not anything more serious.
