one of the last original gliders that I got from my 2nd Ohio gathering that shelly did is in need of serious help. I have also posted on ABC's 123's. My vet feels that he is completely emaciated. He was at 120grams last June, and today he is at 89 grams. evidently, the 2 newest ones we got for him must not be letting him eat as he wants to. So, I need to fatten him up. I bought the ensure needed to help, and an avocado, but I can't remember what else is safe and good for him. I am also feeding Peggy's CL, so I need special instructions with that. The vet says that he lost his top incisors, not there anymore. And his bottom incisors were really long, over his top lip, so, he TRIMMED them. I let him know how wrong he was to have done this, but he feels it could be an age thing since most sugar gliders aren't supposed to live as long as he has. He also has a growth under his bottom lip that is quite tight, and he would be willing to see him again if nothing improves for a thorough exam. We are to feed him separately, and we need to weigh him everyday. Larry is going to give him extra mealies, but that really isn't something healthy to do, either. I am really a broken down mess. I've had gliders since April of '08. So many have come, and gone, and I really don't know if I can mentally do this anymore. TOO much pain.

It is always hard to lose a special pet. I am new to gliders-just a couple of years but not new to pets. I have a dog that is 14 that was brought to me as a young puppy and is now 14 years old. She is a border collie. The thought of losing a pet is hard, super hard! However, my dog has enriched my life and I hope I have enriched hers. Nurturing our pets is a blessing. I feel your pain and I want you to know each time I lose a pet, I lose a piece of my heart! I hope your baby gets better. What a good glider mom you must be! Blessings!

Josefine, keep giving him the Critterlove. You can add avocado to his diet 2 or 3 times a week. (You can cut it up and freeze it on a cookie sheet) You can also give him yogurt. The vet says that he lost his top incisors, not there anymore. And his bottom incisors were really long, over his top lip, so, he TRIMMED them. I let him know how wrong he was to have done this, but he feels it could be an age thing since most sugar gliders aren't supposed to live as long as he has. Seeing as the vet trimmed his teeth, which is a big no no, ask if he will remove those two front teeth he trimmed so you little guy doesn't have nerve pain when he tries to eat.
I would also dish up his food ahead of time so that it thaws out. (Don't warm it up, just thaw it out).He also has a growth under his bottom lip that is quite tight, and he would be willing to see him again if nothing improves for a thorough exam. Josefine at his age he can eat anything he wants as long as he puts some weight on. I think Avocado and yogurt would be great and stuff him with meal worms in the morning.Just remember get the full fat yogurt with no artificial sweeteners.I hope he gets better and puts some weight on, but he is a little old man now.

I only have two, and one is a bit aggressive around the food dish. I have learned that a small plate seems to work better for f/v. They can be spread out and one glider can't sit on the dish and hoard it all. Peggy has one that I want to try. It has a built in bowl for nectar. This is the link: https://www.critterlove.com/store/p351/Food_Dish.htmlIt's a bit pricey, but looks sturdy. Terry has a cool bat shaped plate she uses. I'm not sure if this helps, but I have learned that the more elbo room they have around the feed dish, they seem to get along better.

How old is your senior baby boy? i saw your post on face book but wanted to post here. As for vet doing surgery on your boy. it may not be a good idea if he is emancipated as bad as described. My vet wouldn't gas Buddy for an x ray and lucky he sat still for it. vet said risk was too high that Buddy wouldn't come out of it, food for thought. I feed a senior glider smoothie to my ten years and up especially if I see them get up in day light hours. Usually the gliders that get up are 13-16 years old and loose weight but then seem to maintain until they cross the bridge. As long as they eat, stop losing weight, and are active then it is a natural aging process. The smoothie we use is honeydew melon or any favorite melon(s) added, avocado, yogurt(half container-6 oz.), honey water, and any other favorite fruits. Blended all together into like a paste, not real watery. My elders and others all seem to love this recipe and hope it helps your man too. Art

I got him in '09. the prior owner couldn't care for him anymore, changing circumstances, so I took him and his sister. I think they were already maybe 4 or 5 at that time. I have spoken with the vet alittle bit ago, and he says he didn't actually cut to the nerve of the tooth, he just took the top tips off, because they had grown so long. I am getting pain meds and an antibiotic for him today. He isn't lethargic, just loosing weight, and the vet felt that it was because his teeth had grown so much in length that it was maybe painful to eat. but, the vet was more concerned about the lump that is under his bottom lip, not knowing why it is there, it is very tight. maybe this could be his weight loss problem. We are going to get him back in asap. eating alone time, meds, and go from there. and hopefully getting some of his weight back on him. He was never a fluffy glider, always on the small, skinny side. Could be the most he had ever weighed was maybe 140 grams. thanx for all the help, I will do as instructed.

Not a vet! but the lump might be a abscess or related to a bad tooth and that uncomfortable to him not letting him eat as much. (specially if it more to the one side or other)
