With the colder weather, I set up a safety heater in the gliders room. My question is, how do I go about treating their dry skinned ears? Do I need to invest in a humidifier to place in the room as well to run with the heater? I know its probably not healthy or easy to just rub lotion on their ears (especially human lotion) and be done with it, so thats why I'm asking how others go about this issue!

Anything to keep the humidity in the room reasonable should work. Depending on how bad it is, maybe a container of water near the heater. If it's very bad, then you might need a dedicated humidifier.

Honestly, I don't about products that can be applied, but many on here have much more experience and may be able to advise you better.

I did do some research, and so far, I haven't found much first aid info on dry ears.

Hutch is right, humidity is very important.

A thermometer in their room is important too. One that reads highs and lows in a 24 hour period. They may be getting to warm, and with dry heat, the ears drying out will be an indicator along with cracked fur.

How cool does this room get without a heater?

Forgot to add that they may try to groom anything you put on their ears off, which may cause more damage than good.

I agree with Hutch and Dawn! The only thing you could safely put on their ears would be a little (very small amount) of coconut oil.

I don't have a thermometer (I do plan on getting one though!), but I'm gonna estimate at night time probably about 60-65ish degrees??...It gets pretty cold since my mom likes her room freezing and is directly next to the gliders' room. If I'm not comfortable in the room, I figure they aren't either. (then comes the dry ear situation with the heater when I try to comfortably warm them up at night.)

I wasn't planning on putting anything on their ears without knowledge, no worries. I just wanted to ask around and see if anybody else had a working solution for this minor issue! c:

I'm about to post something on this thread, if you could check out the product and see what your opinions are on it, let me know if this could be an okay solution!

I didn't mention this in the previous post, but guys, there is a new product out on the Exotic Nutrition website that you use to help my gliders' dry skin issue and it is supposed to improve their coat health. I haven't bought it YET since I have this (perhaps irrational) fear of overdosing my gliders on vitamins. You are supposed to spray one pump onto their food each night. Mind checking it out and giving me your opinions? I'll put the link below. Its called VitaGlow.

I myself wouldn't use it. Some gliders will not eat anything that has something sprinkled or sprayed on their food.

I would just ad a humidifier to the room and in the mean time put a little coconut oil on the ears.

My gliders' don't seem to mind it from previous experiences.

Why aren't you inclined to use it? (just curious!)

The only time I give treats is when I am taking pictures, the only time my gliders get a "junk food" night is when we have turkey, then they get some of the white meat if we just get turkey breast, if we cook a whole turkey I will break up the carcass and turn them loose on it.

60-65dF shouldn't be too bad for them, just a little on the low side. Mine have been playing well at night despite a cold snap driving my house temps downs to that range (my house leaks like Manning with classified data). I believe yours will be fine, personally.

Sorry, I'm a little bit lost as to what this reply was referring to. I didn't mention anything about junk food or treats in my post that I see. (unless you posted in the wrong forum?)

Alrighty. Tonight I'll turn off the heater and see how it goes!

AlyCatz you mentioned this VitaGlow stuff and that is how treats got brought up in this thread.

My gliders are on a very good diet and I don't stray from it except as:

Ah, alright! I guess I didn't consider the VitaGlow as a treat, but more of a spray supplement of some sort. I was trying to find where I mentioned junk food treats for my gliders', hah!
