If you look at my posts here, it’s mostly about cleaning. I have done some research and the petsmart brand cage cleaner was suggested. Seemed like a good thing to try.
Be very careful!! It helped some, but took a LOT of spraying and it sits in the air a lot, even for a human. I leaned into a cloud of it multiple times and it definitely has an identifiable scent. Half way through my cleaning one of my girls came scurrying out to see what was up so I only had a chance to try to dry and wipe off as much as I can. I will be moving all my animals now to different rooms when I use sprays and air out the room really well after. It seemed to be slightly better and break down the gunk so I’m hopeful (still wavering on nature’s miracle though) just a reminder if it can affect your system, just imagine what it can do to your little ones!!

Alan,

I just use Original Dawn dish soap to clean my cages and toys.

Some of those expensive cage cleaners are just that expensive.

I think I’ll have to try that. I can still smell it in my room and I’m still searching for the best way. I think I slumped on cleaning in the beginning and that messed me up! I just wanted to remind everyone about sprays and safe cleaning since I totally forgot in case someone else did to.

Thank you for the heads up! And happy OOP Day to your girls!!!

If you can get your cage out to hose and scrub, that's ideal. I can't so have to resort to the V/W solution, and occasionally use the steamer afterwards. I also wipe down with clean dry paper towel after sponge, just to help remove grub.

:agreed: I have to think if Original Dawn is what is used on all those oil soaked animals to get them clean before release, it has to be safe enough for cage cleaning agree

I might try to coerce my roomie to help me get it down from the second floor and to the hose station....it’s tough in the apartment complex. I got some dawn and those mr. scrubby smile things to see if that works. But I just want to give heads up especially after all the reading about sprays and smells I’ve done for them and my ferret....I didn’t know til I used it!

Depending on how frequent we are home, I take the big cage outside along with cage in RV, and they both get a good power wash. I let both sun dry, and watch for bits and pieces that may have softened and stuck on, I soap up again, and wash again. Repeat as necessary. I use a (new only for glider cage) toilet brush.

While on the road, I slip the cage into the shower and scrub down, rinse and let hard spots soften, scrub, rinse repeat. I do put towels down to keep from scratching floor of shower. Once it's clean, I might take outside to let the sun air dry. I try to do this in RV very 4 months.

Otherwise, the cages get a vigorous wipe own with old towels and vinegar water as needed or once a month.

I am testing my own DIY vinegar wipes for daily spot cleaning... I will post results after I get through first jar. I use this when I take their dishes out, wiping the areas down around feeding area. I also use one to swipe out drop tray when I clean it.

I forgot to mention I deep clean cage with Dawn dish soap too.

I only use vinegar for all mopping, cleaning, and cage care. It seems to work on my gliders fine but this cage is only about 8 months old.

Ive been using only hot water and baking soda and sometime a bit of vinegar. I submerge the bottom of the cage the plastic toys in the bathtub with baking soda and hot water again. It seems to clean everything well. Any constructive opinions on this? I am fairly new to the glider life so I am trying my best.
