Wife and I have started to see that it appears our other red eye glider ( waffles who is a ruby leu is starting to have some eye sight issues too, Sterling has been confirmed to be totally blind to actual point he only see that it light or dark no movement seen. I know i not been into gliders as much as some, and I know the red eyes gliders (type) are new. but has it been seen to be a common issue with them to go blind (waffles is like 2-3 years old) Sterling about 7 now I think. Wife wanted me to ask since I am on here more. I know gliders can go blind in general but we are wondering if seen more in the reds. either way we lover our boys and they are staying here lol.. Sterling still runs in a custom cruiser that about 1/2 wobble built in.

I've heard that albinos, in various species are prone to vision impairment.
Maybe there is something to that in certain type leus as well.

and I know the red eyes gliders (type) are new. Actually albinos, creminos and what is referred to as "Ruby leus" are not new at all. They have been around for quite some time. As for blindness or eye sight issues, it is very common in any and all animals that have come from albinism lines to either have poor eyesight, blindness and deafness. You will hear many say they have not seen the issues in gliders, however, that is because testing has not been done in gliders as they have in other species.

Yeah I Figure you Know more detail Peggy lol. Both our ruby leu(albino ) boys one blind not and the other seems to be going the same way he up and down all the time now and the light don't bother him like it did as a joey...
Sterling you have to pretty much touch him or have food in hand to get him to react and he always grabbing and tasting anything that bumps his whiskers.
