New sugar glider parent here that is in urgent need of advice.

Two months ago I adopted my first sugar glider. Totally unexpected, he was delivered to the shelter in a cat carrier. As they had no knowledge, nor proper housing, I decided to take him home. As I found out pretty soon they needed to be kept in pairs I searched for a friend and adopted a sugar glider that had been alone for 2 years. Both are doing great but I am still struggling to find a diet I am happy with. I live in Dubai and I have searched for the ingredients of most advised diets, but of none I can get all the ingredients mentioned. Sadly not even the BML overseas diet.

Currently I am feeding them a diet advised by a petshop owner who has adopted gliders herself, but they don't seem to enjoy it as much anymore. Also I doubt it has everything they need in the right ratio's. I prefer to find something I can get the basic ingredients for here in Dubai, as ordering specific things might take up to a month delivery (for example could order the 5 cereal from nestle, but it will take a month for delivery). Don't mind ordering vitamins or other ingredients that will last long. This is what I am feeding them now:

2 cups fresh or frozen fruit chopped, 2 cups fresh or frozen veg chopped, 2 cups of nAtural honey, 10 tablespoons of plain full fat yogurt, 1 cup of orange juice, 10 tablespoon of applesauce, 6 boiled eggs and 2 cups of gerbers baby food. Sprinkle on top calcium and vitamins for sugar gliders.

What can you not find for BML diet? Some things can be substituted. I've never been to Dubai, so I'm not sure what you have available.

I can't find the chicken baby food from the bml diet. Seems the chicken baby food is very limited as the only thing I could find was a none mentioned brand and it wasn't even pure chicken but with rice. No chicken only From any brand. From the overseas bml diet couldn't find the nestle baby cereal, 5 cereals...some others though like wheat and dates. Frustrating as they have the brand's just not the right flavours.

Please stay away from the Exotic Nutrition stuff, their Instant HPW has been analyzed and what is in the bag does not match the label and they tested it twice.

So I found 2 diets, where I should be able to get the ingredients from without having to pay a arm and leg for delivery. First one is Ruth's Modified Leadbeaters Mix. I will only have to order the vitamins. All other ingredients I can get here.

And the BML overseas diet I found on this forum. I will have to order both the baby cereal and vitamins. As its probably going to be a hassle having to order the babyfood, I would prefer the other diet, but ofcourse if one is way better then the other so be it. Opinions on both diets? Ill put them below so people dont have to do a search

Ruth's Modified Leadbeaters Mix
Apple Juice 1/2 cup
Honey 1/2 cup
Boiled egg 2 (I leave the shell on)
Gerber Baby cereal (dry flakes) 1/2 cup
Wheat Germ 1/4 cup
Rep-Cal (Calcium supplement with no phosphorus) 1 1/4 tsp
Herptivite Vitamin Supplement 1 tsp


Overseas BML
* 115g honey
* 55g yogurt
* 1 hard boiled egg, shelled
* 100ml apple juice (you can go up to 200ml if the BML is too thick. I always do the recipe with 200ml)
* 1 teaspoon of Rep-Cal Herptivite

Mix well
Then add:

* 2 teaspoons of Rep-Cal Calcium with D3, no phosphorus
* 55g wheat germ
* 115g Nestlé baby cereals (5 cereals for 4 months old and above)
