Hello everyone! I'm brand new here and this is my first post. I'm single and I make a good living working for a reputable oil company and thought that sugar gliders would be an ideal fit for me. I researched them for months and finally about 6 weeks ago I welcomed Gizmo and Bandit into my home. They are absolutely a joy to have around and I spend most of my time playing with them when I get home. I purchased them from a reputable breeder who had done the introductions already before taking them to the airport so they were already used to each other before i ever layed eyes on them. Now to the point.. My best friend had mentioned that I have 2 gliders to someone he knows that also has a sugar glider and now he's asking if I would buy his gliderm. He had purchased her off of Craigslist so I have no idea how old she is or how she was treated prior to him. I do know that he impulse bought her and keeps her in a small bird cage alone and, according to what I've heard, doesnt spend time with her (hence why I call her a rescue). I would love to take her in and give her a way better quality of life but my only hangup is if she doesnt get along with my 2 neutered males then I'd have her seperated anyway. I have an 18"x18"x24" cage I can keep her in for a while but I would prefer to keep them all together so she has friends and a lot larger area to play in. I currently have a 36"x24"63" cage that I think would fit 3 suggies just fine. Would you please give me your .02? Maybe I'm just over-thinking this but I want to make an informed decision. Thanks!

Are your boys neutered?

Don't over think it, if done slowly most introductions do very well.

Just take it slow.

there is a ton of really good info on intro's to teach us the best ways, in our forum list,
and, as always, it will be more up to the gliders, than us, but most gliders will accept each other.

Glad you found us. There is a lot to read on quarantine and introductions. I suggest you start there, but recommend quick reading, simply because it's more likely this glider needs a new home and doubts will always set in. I'm not saying "go for it", but I'm just saying, if there's a way you can take a glider in, it's most likely you will do it.

I personally had two females (my first gliders) that were already together for about a year when I homed them. They were from a reputable breeder as well. Then I saw a post in "Rescue Me" for a lone male glider that was fairly local (reasonably), that was in need of a new home. I took him in, because at that time I could. I put him in quarantine for the recommended 30 days and when the 2nd fecal came back neg. I began intro protocol. I asked two members here that were well experienced to be my "mentors" so I could have some advice when needed. I ended up with a successful trio

Thank you everyone for the feedback on my questions! I decided on adopting her! I set up the cage with all kinds of toys and some foraging cups to welcome her here for her first night. I went and picked her up 2 hours ago and realized something important....she's a he! Haha! A little white faced blonde now affectionately named Yoda. I placed his cage close enough for my other 2 to be able to see and smell him but not reach him through the bars and both of them are very curious about the new fluff ball running around in the other cage. He has been very active running around checking out all the stuff to play with in his new home and I can't help but feel that he's already happier than he was. When I picked him up, i noticed that he had no toys or anything but a little pouch in his cage. It makes me feel good to know that I can add a little happiness to his life. And yes, my two other twerps were neutered a few days before the breeder brought them to the airport. I'm probably gonna get Yoda neutered soon if I can. Thanks again for all your thoughts and sharing your experiences.

Ok. I will definitely get him neutered soon then. Thanks for the suggestion. I can't help but think he might have been sold earlier than ideal since he's smaller than my other two but supposedly he's older. Poor little guy. I'll get him weighed when I bring him to the vet. He does have some yellow stained fur on his belly but I'm hoping that will clear up with a better diet and cleaner quarters. Last night I put a tray with a couple of live medium mealies, some suncoast glider pellets, a small piece of dried pineapple and a fresh slice of Apple with the suncoast fortifier rubbed in and he ate it all last night! I was very suprised since the last owner said he never ate much. This morning I watched him for quite some time and he was playing with everything he could get his paws on so first thing at work I ordered him his own stealth wheel to help him burn off some of those calories. The stealth wheel was the best purchase I had made for the other two since they spend so much time in it and I figure he'll love it too. Haha! Man I would get work done if I had half their energy. Awe, I'm glad to hear he's eating and playing. You're doing good by him and I'm sure it will pay off.

I agree on getting him checked out, but some gliders are smaller than others. My Ollie is smaller than my girls, but older, his vet said he could use to gain a few grams but thought he was healthy and not too much concerned with his size/weight. So it might just be your new guy is a smaller glider, but letting a vet look at him, check him over and weigh him is important.

My girls were about a year old when I homed them, they had hardly anything: a wheel on it's last leg w/gasket pulled half out and chewed up, a very small pouch that wasn't the safest, and three cat jiggle balls. I both purchased and made tons of toys for them over time, but they don't really know how to play. They sample stuff to see if they can eat it and use their wheel (and now their treadmill), they like their floor toys (big toddler toys), and of course forage toys. But they don't chew up their wheel as much, with other items to test chew. Oh, on occasion, they do like to toss things about the cage as long as they're having fun, right?

Heres a little update on Yoda if y'all are interested. It took longer than I care to admit to get the little fella seen by a vet. It's been crazy around here but last Tuesday I finally got him in to see the vet. Yoda weighed 111 grams and the vet was real pleased with how he looked. Thursday he was neutered laser pom off and he has never once messed with that area. As far as diet goes, I decided to try critter love along with their salad packs and Gizmo and Bandit love it! Yoda will eat the veggies but doesn't touch the Complete and all 3 shuggies absolutely love the Fruit flavored Happy Glider pellets. I've been adding some Blueberry fortifier to Yoda`s pellets to make sure he's getting his vitamins and calcium till I find a way to get him to eat the Glider Complete. His coat is shiny and he has big bright eyes and definitely gets enough exercise. Lol! I hope y'all don't mind another question but how long does it normally take for them to mellow out and about how long to heal after neutering? Thanks!

As whole to mellow out? My two did shortly after they turned a year old.

Neutering, I have heard it only takes a few days with Lazer. Testosterone levels drop a bit slower than that.

Ok thank you! I'm excited to see if they'll get along and I didn't know how long to wait after neutering. Hopefully they'll all be buddies. :D
