Hello! I'm about to go on a three day car trip with my suggies, stopping at night, from Iowa to Florida and their pouches currently stink! Before I throw them in the wash, is there a special type of detergent or softener I shouldn't use? Also can I wash them with my clothes?

Edit: Also any travel tips would help tremendously! My two babies and I aren't fully bonded and I want to make travel as relaxing as I can. We're only staying for 2 weeks in Florida then coming back to Iowa.

Just wash them as you do your regular wash. I threw mine in with the towel load. It is recommended to give them an extra rinse to make sure all the soap is out.

You can dry in the dryer with the towels.

There is no need for special treatment.

If you're about to travel I personally wouldn't wash every pouch. They are very scent oriented and having their scent on things with them can help comfort them while away from their home. If they are too stinky to travel with, I'd wash all but one that way they have a little familiar scent with them on the journey. After they are cleaned you may want to put the clean items in your laundry hamper overnight or for a few hours to get your scent on them as well.

I wash all of our gliders things together...pouches, hammocks, blankies, any and all things fabric. I usually wash them separate from our things, but I also wash the laundry at our house in loads by who it belongs to.

I use Tide free and clear for all things and NO fabric softener for glider things. I've read it's not necessary and they will over mark to cover the laundry scent making things stink even more than before washing.

Just my two cents :yak: grin

Good luck and have a nice trip...let us know how it goes traveling with them.

Very good advice. My apologies for overlooking the not washing every single pouch since you will be traveling. In fact, you should never do a complete washing of all cage items at one time. Sends them into overtime on scent marking agree

With traveling which puts them completely out of their comfort zone, well :willy: Not a pretty sight shakehead

Thank you, Desiree, for your post thumb

I agree with the stinky sleeping piuch. Also put the cage set you will be using and place in their cage for a couple of nights before you leave. Then take them with you and set up their cage with them. It's always a good idea to take new bedding and either sleep with it under your pillow, or in to hamper just before changing it out in their cage. It helps with bonding and comforts them to know you are there even in a strange place.

While traveling be sure to tuck some seedless grapes or apple slices into their sleeping pouch so they will stay hydrated.

I have traveled a few thousand miles with my two and I have learned to keep an eye on the backseat where they are and shield them from direct sunlight. A cover over their travel cage can be too warm if the sun hits it, but a pillow case or blanket over the closest window helps keep them cool. As always, never leave them in the car alone. (I mean when you stop to eat, breaks and so on). Heat exhaustion is a concern.

I wash their bedding with our like colors, no fabric softener, or dryer sheets. I usually air dry their stuff..
