Like sands through... wait, sorry, that one is already taken... Another chapter closes as the page turns to a new beginning. This marks the 403* post in the continuing adventures of Arthur, Gwynevere, Merlin, & Morgana, & they're still providing plenty that I wish to record & share. As before, for any late-comers to my colonies epic tales full of wonder & craziness (& maybe a few attempts to give me grey hairs), here are the prior chapters while they last: Chapter I Chapter II Chapter III Chapter IV Here's to the next 99 posts! *Don't ask, forum glitch

Not much to say beyond that. Been able to spend several afternoon/evening recently with my hand 'sleeping' with the fuzzbutts with varying degrees of success, hehe. Yesterday it lasted a few hours before Merlin decided enough was enough & kept trying to find a new place to sleep. Spoilsport, I returned the pouch back to the cage & he was rejoined to others.
This evening, I don't what they were smelling on my hand, but they kept waking up to lick/groom/nibble... lick some more... *CHOMP*
Good thing they are so cute. I tssked at he/she/them (or yelped a couple of times when Gwyn or Arthur -really- got me) then whoever would go back to licking for a bit. Eventually, the troublesome furball would go back to sleep until they woke to repeat. Whatever they smelled also seemed that it didn't want to wash off since I cleaned my hands twice during this time. *sigh*
Really... it is a good thing they're so cute. Survival trait, I'd wager. Like toddlers.

My Ollie boy loves to hang like that and do a good stretch. He also likes to hang from one side, either one or two footed. He does the side-version maneuver mostly in the wheel, but the bat-like-stretch version, he does quite frequently around the cage.
I actually got a cute pic of Ollie and Lulu hanging upside down eating, but not stretching.
Hehe, I get the survival technique called "cuteness".

The last couple of days upon coming home, I've been able to get a little bit of cuddle time before the furballs woke. Yesterday, it was all normal as I removed the pouch, slipped my hand in, & settled in amongst the fuzz. Much like I've described in the past: Some pawing, some pets, some licking & nibbling, some scratching. When they started being more active, I returned them to the cage, provided food, & went to be myself.
Tonight... the girls were waiting. No, seriously, as I walked up, they were clinging to the outside of the pouch watching me. I opened the cage, let them smell me, gave some head-scratches before they went back into the pouch with their heads sticking out looking at me expectantly. Of course, I obliged & pulled them out again.
After I settled into the recliner, I began scratching the heads until Gwyn stretched across the top of the others. So, I just kept lightly petting her as she settled in & went back to sleep. That lasted for maybe 45 mins until Arthur got jealous & climbed over her. So, he got some lovin' for a little while... though he seemed to have trouble deciding if he liked it since he'd squirm & shifted until I stopped... then he'd stop, look at me like I was crazy, & start crawling for the opening until I started again.
He was funny to watch too. As he squirmed around, he'd groom the other fuzz-butts. Sometimes forcefully. He full-up grabbed Morgana's face in both paws, pulled her to him, & started licking like she was his favorite flavor. He nibbled on Gwyn & rolled Merlin over. The really hilarious thing was it didn't even look like they woke up for any of it!!
Anyways, as it got later, they slowly started to wake. Not like other times where I could tell they were getting ready to come alive through a gradual restlessness, it was more like they just woke up & suddenly wanted attention. They weren't trying to get out of the pouch, weren't trying to be grumpy... just four extremely cute, little faces looking at me quite expectantly. So I started trying to pet each of them until Gwyn came near the opening & stuck her head out. So, I started just rubbing her head & shoulders & talking to her... & she just sat there looking at me for another five to ten minutes before the others started to jive for positions. I decided it was time to put them back & feed 'em.
As soon as I began to move, Gwyn, Morgana, & Arthur leapt to my left shoulder (Merlin dove to the bottom of the pouch, silly suggie). I knew what was coming. I keep telling myself it is a sign of affection.
It IS a sign of affection... I needed to change my shirt. My shoulder & sleeve was soaked before I could make it the 4 meters to their cage.
It IS a sign of... *sigh* Good thing they're cute... & four are not enough for even a single moccasin.
Fooded, watered, treated... I'm about ready for bed.
What was really cute (as if most of the above wasn't enough): Right before I decided it was time to take them back to the cage, Morgana has started to move around some. Gywn was watching her as she circled the pouch just on the outside. It was the only time at the end that she didn't just watch me intently as I pet her. As Morgana moved a bit away, she gave this quick little bark. I could actually feel it through her side. As Morgana kept 'exploring' (using the term loosely), Gwyn gave a couple more... I guess what are best described as chirps... before Morgana came back to the pouch & Gwyn returned her attention to me. Not really sure what to read into it (or if there is anything to read in to)... but I really thought it was cute.
So, in the end... four happy gliders playing in the cage right now, a few happy memories of crazy adorableness after a rough week, & much love from my four little pieces of sanity. They by no means make up for not having a human to come home to, but it is so nice that they make me feel loved when I come home.
That is all I have to share right now. No new pictures (my phone has trouble focusing on them on the bottom of the pouch), but I'm sure most of you are able to relate to what I'm saying. Good night, GC.
**Edit: Wow, that was longer than I though... even for me!**

I love cuddles with my girls!
Thank you for making your story long. A lot went on and I wouldn't want to miss one thing that happened. It makes me feel better knowing their little personalities.
BTW, are any of yours tail carriers?

BTW, are any of yours tail carriers? Not that I've seen. I've tried to teach Arthur since he seems the most inclined to do more than keeping it out of the way, but I think he's just too lazy.

Today, Merlin (after some hesitation) jumped to me for a treat! After handing it over, he joined Gwyn & Morgana on my back, just over my right shoulder. After finishing, he scurried around me for a minute or so while I tried to keep on eye on Gwyn, Morgana, & Arthur who were all going in different directions. Then I felt his weight leave my arm (not the usual push-off, just gone) & I heard *thump*. Not *plop* as they normally land. I had a bad feeling as I turned around. Sure enough, Merlin was just starting a seizure & had lost his grip. I scooped him back up & just cupped him in my hands (them claws, yo!), & just kept petting him. It took a while before his body relaxed, but he recovered after only a few minutes. I don't get it. He came out on his own, was just crawling around... I'm -reasonably- certain it is anxiety related, but I don't see why he'd be nervous. I was intentionally not trying to handle him, just letting him move around on his own. One he looked ready to be mobile again, I held in near a pouch. He seemed happy to do a slow crawl from my hand to just cling to the fabric & watch everyone... especially as I went around my ground floor corraling my wayward three again. I wish I (or my vet) could figure this out

I'm so sorry about Merlin's seizures, I also hope your vet or you can figure it out. I understand how you feel, I had a dog who had seizures. she ended up diagnosed with epilepsy and was put on phenobarbital, it took a while to get the dose adjusted, but it did help for a few years.

So, last night I kept them on my lap all the way to wake-up time while keeping an eye on them inside.
Turns out Merlin is my cranky-waker-upper. In hindsight, I feel I should've been able to guess that. He's normally by crabbier one (much like Gwyn is my primary barker).
So, just need to set-out one mug of glider coffee in the evening, not four. Probably needs a travel-safe lid. Not McDonalds hot, though, just in case.

Just to verify, did a repeat of last night. They were especially cuddly this evening & kept arranging themselves into a tight ball using my hand as a blanket. Every once in a while, I head out pop out between my fingers for a few blissful minutes of scratching between the ears before retreating again.
It was confirmed... Merlin needs coffee in his morning. Talk about the wrong side of the pouch, sheesh.

That is so sweet. Let's just hope Merlin doesn't find his wand on one of those cranky mornings

Off early today, so I decided to spend it with my gliders. Man, Merlin is still being a grumpy little turd. After a few minutes, he started nipping then biting my fingers. He wouldn't pay attention to tssk, oww, no, having his face pushed away, or his nose poked back. So, when I had enough & he bit again, I scooped him up & pulled him out of the pouch faster than he could do anything about it.
His face said 'Oh, crap.' hehe. I kept him from returning to the pouch for about 5 minutes before putting him back inside myself. He stopped with the mouthing after that.
A half-hour-ish later when I looked in to see why they were wiggling so much. He looks up at me for several seconds, then starts crabbing full volume. I don't think he got the results he wanted though. Instead of pulling away, I reached in & just started petting him while be continued for almost a minute before giving up.
Morgana & Gwynevere also stole a piece of crust from some toast I was eating. I guessed they liked it since the four of them started wrestling over it. No bickering or anything, just back & forward. So, I broke off another small piece & offered it. Arthur snatched that right up & they seemed more willing to split the two bits of crust two ways each than the one piece for ways.
Now I have them sitting on my chest under my shirt & they seem to have settled down. Finally! All I wanted was a little cuddle time & they're acting like it's play time. Don't they realize it's like the middle of -their- witching hour?
Then again, as they sleep, they're making little popping noises. Once again proving, cuteness is a natural defense mechanism that nature has finely honed.

I got so carried away with the glider cuteness, I forgot about this part... Dot and I still go round and round over this at times. She has a strong will... she really gets wound up sometimes... She forgets I get the last word. And until I do, I don't go away... BTW, I got a reminder of the color of their third eyelid a couple of weeks ago... Still creeps me out... That stuff happens in the movies, not in my freakin' hand...

Just let everyone out for a bit, allowing them to run around & explore where they wanted with minimal corralling. Gwyn, Morgana, & Arthur glided at the opportunity, but as I'm sure most of your are unsurprised to read, Merlin was interested but SUPER leery. I just left my hand in the door as an invitation & watched the others. Well, the ladies went straight for the treat storage; I let them at it for a change. Arthur stayed low, mainly playing with the feather toy he usually ignores. I guess I am what made it so uninteresting . After many jumps to my hand & back into the cage, Merlin finally went around me & climbed to the top of the cage. Then Arthur decided there must be something interesting around the corner. I just followed him around & occasionally checked on the girls until he went for the basement. Scooped up & returned him to his ladies. As I did, Morgana jumped to me & climbed to my back in order to finish her ill-begotten snack while Gwyn just went 'What?' & reached for another. I scooped her up & put her next to Arthur (also giving him a treat). By this time, Merlin made it down to the floor & was doing a bit of slow exploring on his own. I watched him until Morgana jumped back to the shelves. As he started getting braver, I would follow until he slowed down, then take a knee while offering a hand. He'd sniff then move off again. We did this until he cornered himself in the small bathroom that was their first playtimes with me. It took a few attempts before he'd allow me to scoop him up, but the moment I did Merlin jumped to my shoulder. I went slowly back to the cage as he kept an eye out, then stuck my hand through the cage door. He took the offer, crawled down my arm, & jumped in. I figured he'd had enough adventure. I gathered the others one by one until they were all back in the cage. Between this & cuddles earlier, today has been a good day.

Well, they have a top, bottom, and the bluish/white cover... It protects their eyes during fight mode... When we first got Dot, she always showed it to us... I haven't seen it in almost 2 years... you ought to Google it... OK don't Google it... I will have to find it... You would know if you ever saw it...

Despite all the time & attention & gave her, Gwyn apparently wasn't done with me last night. As soon as I hit the nights to go to bed, she began barking. Lights back on, over to the cage, & a WFB staring back at me barking while I did my normal back-talk. So, I offered treats, giving Gwyn hers last. That did it. "Good night, squeaky toys," & hit the lights again. The barking immediately returned, much more frantic & loud this time. So, lights back on & back to the cage. There is Gwyn, treat in paws, staring at me while barking. I tried a different tact. Grabbed a yoggie for each of them, Gwyn last again. She grabbed it with her mouth & jumped on me, old treat still in paw. She tried for my shoulder first, but as I tried to grab her she went for my back. I gave her a moment to start in on the yoggie, then went after her again with both hands. I manage to catch her mid-leap when one hand chased her right to the other. She must've finished the yogurt drop because the original treat was in her mouth as I returned Gwyn to the cage with a "Nice try, fuzzbutt!" This time when I hit the switch & darkness fell, the silence remained.

Ah, Gwyn has you trained well. Hehehe. Yep! ********************************************* Following my normal routine, I open the cage to tidy things up & leave it open while I prepare dinner. As I can see it from the kitchen, it's not a problem & sometimes I can see how adventurous they're feeling. There have been a couple times Gwyn has chased me down, lol. So, yeah, started as normal. As I went back to the cage to insert dinner, I have a spread eagle flying blond squeaky-toy fly leap from somewhere in the cage, fall slightly short of her target, & plop on to my foot. I guess Gwyn thought she would attempt an ambush tonight. After looking around indignantly for a couple seconds, she tried to leap up my leg... apparently forgetting how much hard it is to grip said leg when I'm wearing shorts instead of jeans. *Plop* I placed dinner in the cage, then lifted my foot Capt Morgan style while offering a hand; she liked that idea better. She rode around on my shoulder quite a while, leaving turds to mark her way as I moved around the house taking care of a few things. Once I was trying to switch laundry loads & fold a couple items, though, she got bored & started trying to explore. At first, she stayed near by & would check on me, see if I'd become interesting again. If I started to move away from my folding bench (aka, couch), she'd leap back on for the ride. But, after a few more minutes, she realized being an adult is boring & decided to set off on her own to find a good time. The third time I corralled her for going too far, I felt it was best to send her back. My mistake, they were ALL waiting to ambush me. 5 minutes of a Glider conga line & the girls sneaking into the treat crate for a little dessert before dinner, I had them all closed up again. Finished the laundry, realized I'm tired, typed this out, now going to sleep. So far, so quite. *Fingers crossed*

Last night while I was waiting to Skype a stateside friend, I decided to plop myself near the furballs' cage, leave the doors open, & read a book. This was right as I was placing their dinner (pumpkin... I've been hearing a lot of hissing first thing as they wake), but before they rose for the night. (Phrasing it that way, they sound like vampires.) Anywho... There I was, sitting & reading while they started stirring & doing the evening routines. I think it actually took a minute before they comprehended I was nearby. Not saying they didn't notice, but processing what my presence means to them... Morgana & Merlin kept hopping over to see if I had a treat for them, ears up & face expectant. Gwynevere must have been able to tell there was something different from the pouch. Not only was she the last one left in there, an honor normally associated with Arthur), but she began barking loudly. I got up & reached in to pet her & see if something was wrong, but the barking continued. I almost was able to pull her out, but at the last minute she grabbed the pouch for dear life, so I set her back down. She leapt out & hid on the back of the cage -under- one of the other spare pouches & kept barking. Time for a test to see if I should be worried: Took a couple yogurt drops, gave on to each of the others so they wouldn't go after hers, then put one in her mouth (gently) as she barked. I received one more muffled bark, but quite after that. I went back to my book leaving the door still open. Morgana was the first one to adventure out. She made a slow crawl to the corner nearest me, crouched tightly, them leapt for my arm. She should've done it from higher-up, but I was watching out of the corner of my eye & moved my hand under her to grab before she smacked into the side of my chair (flat sided, nothing to grab). Up to my shoulder, down to check out the book, & back up to groom herself by my ear. Arthur & Merlin crawled out of the door next. Merlin inched his was down to the floor under Arthurs watchful eye, then landed with a plop & looked like he didn't know what to do next. I got up & headed towards him leading him to make two hops away then watching me. Since I was now within Arthur's lazy range, he hopped over. Morgana then led him to jumping over to my kickknack shelves (& treat storage). While they were occupied, I just followed Merlin around as he did a slow explore. Whenever he stopped for a while, I would kneel down & offer a hand. He would come over, sniff, look up at me, then hop away to continue his great adventure. I guess he tired after about 10 minutes since he -s l o w l y- crawled on to the back of my hand. We I raised him to my shoulder, he was much more eager to crawl to that. I came back around & noticed Gwyn was still hiding. "Hey, Gwyn, you okay pretty fuzzy?" I saw her head come out from under the pouch & offered my hand. She crawled aboard, then leap for my shoulder as soon as she cleared the cage opening. Brought the two hitchhikers near the other two trying to push the Enterprise off my shelves, & they joined them (on top of the Enterprise, not in pushing it off). I guess that perturbed Morgana ('we were so close'), as she crawled down a support leg & began exploring under the dinning table on her own. I would offer my hand anytime she came near an edge & she would scurry away under a bench again. This went on for about 7-ish minutes before she agreed to return to the others. I dropped her in to the treat storage basket & told her "choose, but choose wisely." She actually didn't go for the one that was sitting open near the top, but dug down under a bunch of them to drag out the last little baggie of pine-nuts. (Seriously, I suspect they really understand more than the let on!) Morgana let me take the baggy from her. I popped it open & help it to her expecting her to reach in with a paw & grab one. Nope: she crammed her whole head in to the tiny baggy, & came out with a big nut. I then proceeded to offer all of them nuts, feeding eat one from my fingers. This is also when I realized how seriously SLOW Merlin eats. He was still working on his first one when the others were starting their third (yes, totally spoiling them tonight, I missed them over my trip Monday/Tuesday). Anyways, after stuffing them with enough yoggies & pin nuts (after everyone ate some dinner besides Gwyn), I returned to one at a time to their cage since they were acting sleepy. (How they weren't little around puff-balls with tiny legs, I don't know). Gwyn was the last & apparently perturbed that we were now out of pine nuts. She had picked up the empty bag & was attempting to rip it apart. She actually wrestled me for it! But, Gwyn went back the cage willingly enough. It's nice that most of them are much more accepting of my hands. Was a very nice night as watched the girls go for a nap as the boys took turns on the wheel. The my friend rang in on Skype, very much later than we'd arranged... but it worked out for the best. ******************************** Edit: Seriously, I must be in a talkative mood this month... long posts without pictures!

So is Merlin Ok? Or does it just take him a long time to wake up?
I would think a yogi would have really help him wake up quicker. Fiona is my slow eater. Dot acts like each morsel might be her last...

So is Merlin Ok? Or does it just take him a long time to wake up? I'm fairly certain that he's fine. As I've mentioned before, he always seems nervous & shy. I suspect his tentativeness when dealing with me is just him being anxious. He was moving fine in the cage. I would think a yogi would have really help him wake up quicker. Fiona is my slow eater. Dot acts like each morsel might be her last... Yeah, I knew he was my slow eater... I just never realized HOW slow until he had half-a-nut in each paw as I was trying to pass around a third one. I had waited until all of the other three were licking their paws clean! I think I never realized quite how slow he was since I usually give them a single treat. That, & next to Arthur & Gwynevere, anyone looks like a slow eater.
