Hello! I just got two male gliders a few days ago. They are both around 5 months old. I have been noticing that they are a little fussy/ crabby towards each other, especially when they are in their pouch. I am assuming this is because they are still intact and reaching sexual maturity. Therefore, I would like to get them both neutered to prevent any further issues. The questions that I have are:

1. How soon can/ should I get them neutered? As they have only been here for a few days, I don't want to over-stress them. Should I wait until after they have bonded to me?
2. Will the procedure impact the bonding process? As of right now they are not bonded to me at all. I am going to be starting them in a bonding pouch tomorrow. Will I have to discontinue daily bonding for a little while post op? When can they be taken out of the cage again?
3. How do you make an e collar? Can I have the vet put it on as a preventative measure before they wake up? How can I put it on/ remove it when they aren't comfortable with me handling them?
4. I plan to get both boys neutered at the same time, how long should I wait before putting them back together?
5. Also, anyone have any good and affordable veterinarians that you recommend around the NJ area. I am willing to drive a few hours, as new jersey vets tend to be a lot pricier.

You can get them neutered now, is shouldn't affect bonding, it will reduce the stress of them not being neutered.

2. Will the procedure impact the bonding process? As of right now they are not bonded to me at all. I am going to be starting them in a bonding pouch tomorrow. Will I have to discontinue daily bonding for a little while post op? When can they be taken out of the cage again?

It will not affect your bonding process.

Read my comments regarding neutered below.
4. I plan to get both boys neutered at the same time, how long should I wait before putting them back together?

They can go back together right away.
5. Also, anyone have any good and affordable veterinarians that you recommend around the NJ area. I am willing to drive a few hours, as new jersey vets tend to be a lot pricier.Click on the word Vet and it will take you to our database of veterinarians.

My preferred neutering is laser, pom off.
Talk you your veterianarian about NOT shaving them before neutering them. I have found and discussed with several different veterinarians and if seems there is a higher risk of them self mutilating if they are shaved.
We also recommend that the vet not neuter close to the tummy, they should leave about 1/8 of an inch of the stalk, that way there isn't a hold there for them to mess with.

Keep us posed on your progress with your boys.

Just thought I'd post an update!

Boys got neutered two days ago, laser poms on. They are both doing great! The vet was awesome, very friendly and experienced and she made the whole ordeal a lot less stressful! 😊 The boys are in their bonding pouch as I'm typing this. We are making lots of progress with bonding

I have learned that compared to a visit to the vet, we seem to be the lesser of the two evils...

Congrats on the neuter success !!!
