the Magical Woodland of Ollie, Lulu, & Skadoosh The object! Ollie wakes up first (as usual) Does he care about the foreign object in his cage? You be the judge Nope. Then out comes Lulu, what does she check out first? Food bowl! Skadoosh is last, as always to emerge from the pouch after a long days sleep. She's going to check it out right? I mean it's new, it's big, and it's right in the middle of their cage floor! Nope I guess a hungry sugar glider just wants to eat first, lol. Ollie, takes a little look at it, but goes back to the pouch without much hesitation. Lulu, doesn't even go close to it before going back to the pouch. But Skadoosh, well after she ate her first meal, she let her curiosity get the best of her. She went down to the floor to take a look, she gets closer... She examines it closely, from underneath it.... Finally, finally.... Then hops off and goes back to the pouch Disclaimer, in the last photo I had put her on the treadmill. She had actually climbed on it after coming out from underneath, but if you look closely at that photo, you'll notice the red zip tie. It was touching the underside of the treadmill and it didn't move when she climbed on top for the first time. I wanted her to experience it move, so I fixed it and then placed her back onto it.

Aww. A bunch of cuties! Hopefully they will come to enjoy it.
I have a treadmill in Falcore and Smores' cage and my intros went about the same. Come out, grub, tiptoe around weird big object then under it and back in the pouch. I had to put Falcore on it and give it a little spin. He jumped off and we tried again. Now he loves it as much as the wheel. Smores took a bit longer to accept it, but now she runs on it too. I kept their wheel in the cage as well, just so they can have a choice on where to run. Just today I cleaned and switched up their cages. So I put the treadmill in Buttercups cage so I'll have to see how she likes it. If she does I will have to make another one. I have all the stuff, just haven't gotten around to it yet.

Thank you Deseree, that encourages me a lot!!! I usually keep two wheels in their cage, one regular size and their travel size wheel. I removed the travel size wheel for the treadmill. My plan was to alternate between the two of those and perhaps use whichever is not in the cage for out of cage time on occasions. I'm still working on their out of cage time setup. I'm trying to work with a little, but crowded space and I don't want them having full roam of my bedroom, I may not be able to get them back easily. Still a work in progress, but at least they're getting an opportunity 3X/week to be out of cage. I just need to make it more interesting in a safe manner, they seem to prefer going back to their cage as I confine them to a particular space.

So , any luck catching a pic?
There is a way to tell if they have tried it...
First,if it is free of debris like food hullings, and stuff. Second, pull cover off and give it a whiff...
To encourage use while you observe, wash the cover, and mark with your scent, then put it back on, and set a yogi in the middle.

No, not any luck getting a pic. Since the first night, I've only seen Skadoosh hop on it a couple of times, she moves a little, mostly walk speed, then hops back off.
Thanks for the tips to tell if they've been on it. I notice some food scraps/debris on it in the mornings, and then again sometimes later in the evening when I visit them after feeding time. I've started a 3X/week routine of getting them out, but lately they've not been wanting to come out or stay out long. Sometimes just one or two will come out for a bit, and less often all three.
They're active in their cage, I hear them in there and also see them. Last night or early this morning I heard a little fussing. It was short-lived but very loud, and I'm wondering how Dot is doing, is she getting back to her normal self?
I'll try working on getting them on the treadmill again on Friday evening, when I have more time with them (I can stay up later, lol).
Anyway, thanks for asking. I'll be sure to post a pic or at least update when there's been some action on the treadmill. It may be just that it's so different to them, they don't realize all the fun yet to be had. Maybe if/when on gets going on it, it will attract the attention of the others. I'll leave it in there for some time.
I will also place their spare cover in my bed for a couple nights before switching covers, see if that makes a difference.

and spin they will! It's funny how you never know if they are using any of the accessories we add to their cages until we do as Ladymagyver said .... remove and "take a whiff." Now that's the tell all for sure. Give them time but they will LOVE the treadmill once they start using it! I think ours use their treadmills more than the wheels.

Those are some good tips. I still haven't seen Buttercup on it yet, but my gliders are goin through a phase of getting up later so I haven't seen them as much playing in their cages this past week or so. So I suppose I may have to do the smell test too haha. I'm guessing she'll come around to liking it (unless she all ready does and I just don't know yet) she loves to run. Hopefully Terry the same will be for your gliders, just need a little more time.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. I did figure it could take some time, although because gliders are generally curious, I really thought they'd be more eager to check it out at first, and then learn they can run over a little time. I was also kind of hoping that it would be quicker though, lol.
I'm willing to wait, it's in there for a while. I'll change the (alternate) the cover every week, but it's staying in there for like a month, lol. Then, I'll give them their second wheel back for a few weeks and keep alternating them. I got it to offer variety, and this is a plan I'm sticking to, I'm sure they'll be using it enough that I'll catch them in the act eventually. I can't guarantee a pic though.
Desiree, mine have been getting more active later too recently. That is after they've eaten their first meal for thee night. They'll get up around 7 or so to eat, Ollie first, always, lol. They don't do too much other than eat, maybe spin on the wheel if anything, then back to the pouch. They used to do more and be out between 8-9 at some point, but now they're going back to pouch sooner and not coming back out till after 9 or later.

I do take the treadmill out from time to time. I let them have it at outside play time.
If you see the same food on it night after night, they may be ignoring it.

Well, they're not all ignoring it completely! Lol, after I got off my computer last evening, I saw Lulu sitting on the treadmill eating. It appears she's learned how to balance it so it doesn't spin on her while she eats. She was sitting there eating and then I saw her move around on it a little, she would walk a bit and then balance it to stay sill. She was doing it again this evening, I saw her sitting there and took this picture. I took it through the bars because I didn't want to disturb her and then she might have climbed off.

And the progress continues! I did a cage clean and rearranging today, The floor level feeding station has been moved to the opposite side of the cage, and I moved the treadmill slightly more to the left. I saw Lulu again on it, but this time she wasn't using it for dining, she was actually spinning on it, and then walked, almost a little run and then would stop and spin. I couldn't get a pic of it though, she jumped off before I could grab my phone.
I really think she's going to get it going, running on it pretty soon. Maybe when Ollie and Skadoosh see her having a blast, they'll try it too. If not, if at least one of my gliders enjoys it, it's worth having it in the cage. I'm still going to keep it in there for a few more weeks before switching back to the second wheel for a few weeks. I planned on alternating them anyway.

I just saw Ollie on the treadmill, he was mostly spinning, but then moved around a bit. I do not know how long he was on there, but he got off just about a minute after I noticed him on there and opted for the wheel. But that's okay, I like that I've at least seen two of my gliders on there, and believe this is just the beginning as they learn more about it.

Even more so! I saw skadoosh on the treadmill this evening. Now I've seen all three on it!
I haven't seen any of them break out in a good run yet, but they're on it, they're moving and spinning, seem to like the ride, lol. Lulu seems to be on it the most.

Well, they all had nail trims today, I'm wondering how that will impact the treadmill use.
I'd love to see them breakout in a run on it, but am just deliriously happy seeing that they move on it all, much less climb onto it. I think they'll figure it out, at least one of them will.
