Ok...I am pretty sure everyone here baby-talks their animals.

I would say that it's like some other things in life where you can say you don't...but everyone knows you are lying.

So...Let's see a snippet of your baby talk...as best you can re-create in text. :-)

EXAMPLE: "Who's got da peanut? Whose got dat peanut?
<high voice> "I got da peanut!"
(Peanut referring to baby in pouch)

Or...

"Sugar-babies! Who wants yogies! HMMM? Who wants em?"
<high voice> "YAY we want yogies! We love you, Daddy Tree!"

These are, of course, examples, as I do not engage in baby talk with my animals.

No, no baby talk here.

I use phrases like: how are my boys? With Tucker is was how is my fatboy or how is my little man.

Of course I do!

Well I use a high soft voice to get their attention. And I say " Where's my pee pot?"(Fiona). "Good morning Beautiful" (Dot).

I use a low soft voice to calm the crabbing "It's awright, sshhh,it'll be Ok..." while patting their pouch. Does that count?

Yeah that counts!
And you may have different modes, like Dawn. One voice for one thing, one voice for another.

And you might have pet names for your pet names.

Like with Chelsea it could be, "Miss Thang, Mrs.Bones, Mrs. B."

With Frisby it could be Friz, or Ma-ma.
Justin gets called "Big Man" a lot.

And sometimes yeah, I talk to them like normal people.

Pfft. Hutch, next thing you'll be telling me is that you don't air guitar in your underwear.

C'mon everyone, throw in! :-)

Sorry, Peg Leg, not to the animals, not to our son and not to the grandchildren.

Seems you and Dawn have this thread

I did talk to the Beta. "Hey there Finley. How's it going this morning."

Does that count? No baby talk though.

Never got into the baby talk with humans or animals.

I have always been staunchly anti-babytalk. That stance led me to speaking to my cat in bad accents instead. For example, bad Irish: "is it outside ye'll be wantin' ta go, then?"

But with these two furry critters... the urge to babytalk is indeed strong. I stifle the urge by singing to them instead. (I have serenaded Yoda with Weird Al's song of the same name, but I make up most of what I sing to them.)

And yea, the "pet names" (ha!) are many...

Jabberwinky:
Winky
Miss Winky (if you're nasty)
Winks
Miss Winkenstein
Winky Love
Jabber the Winks
Baby Girl

Yoda:
Yoda Love
Bebe Love
Yodiferous
Yoda Layheehoo
Yo Bebe Yo
Notorious Y.O.D.

There is nothing more irritating than someone going "ooochiiieee cooochiiieeee cooooooo to an infant".

I can handle baby talk to animals, but I have never done it.

Omg...
I met him in a swamp down in De-go-bah, where it bubbles all the time like a giant carbonated So-Da...
YO yo yo yo yo-da....
Yo yo yo yo yo-daaaa....

I love Weird Al!

Ok...flexing my embarrassment resistance.

So....baby talkers are....ahem...fewer in number that I had thought.

I personally like to have conversations with my kids, where I speak all the parts.

"Daddy Tree, what's that?"
"It's a computer, buddy."
"I WANNA PEE ON IT!"

This also gives me a chance to practice my cartoon voices.

No air guitar folks out there eh? Hm....my ex-wife was right then...

Sorry man, left the air guitar behind with the 80s, underwear or otherwise.

As far as pet names, sure. Y'all have read most of them in my various posts, but in addition I'll refer to the girls as "pretty-girl" or "gorgeous" and the boys as "pals" as I talk at them. If they've irritated me... well, I'm pretty sure the filters won't let me type those names out.

That's as good as it get, dude.

Not so much for baby talk, I'm sure I've been guilty of using it before though. My husband and I do pet names for pet names though, probably use more of those than their actual names such as...

Buttercup is
Princess
Pretty pretty (always 2 pretties, never 1, a very strict rule)
Pretty pretty princess
B cup
Buttersniffles
Butterbiscut
Buttersweets (ya get the drift)

Falcore is
Big boy
Big head
Fluff butt
Yellow Belly
The Core
My Boy

Smores is
Lady
Little lady
Pretty (always 1 pretty, never 2)
Pretty lady
My sweets
My girl

So yeah, our names for them are plenty and keep adding new ones.

Well, I'm sure I have baby talk to my pets on occasion, I can't say I've never have. I usually talk to them normally, as if having a regular conversation.

Names I call them/refer to them collectively:
my 3 Amigos
my trio
babies or crazy babies
gremlins
rascals/rascal individually
bugger-butts, sometimes call this individually as "bugger-butt" I think this is most used along with "babies"

"My girls" referring to Lulu & Skadoosh, "My Ollie boy" or just "Ollie boy" referring to my Ollie boy, lol. Sometimes he gets "Sir Ollie", though I don't know why, he's not royal or anything, I just think he likes it.

During out of cage play, when one starts climbing something I'll say "we've got a climber!", but I use a normal voice I believe, maybe with an excited undertone ("You've got mail"). I'll encourage them to explore, climb, jump and glide, but again, I believe I'm using normal voice, pitch may fit an encouraging tone. As I'm also sure my tones with them change with what I'm saying and what they're doing.

My tone may range from higher-excited, soft-calming, stern or fussy, and sometimes much like you would call a dog or other animal to you or even the tone you'd use for a child for encouragement, but not necessarily baby-talk.

By the way, I really like this thread! Great topic Two Dog!
