Hi everyone! My name is Heather, I'm 25, and I live in New Hampshire. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE animals (sometimes more then humans lol). SO, for Christmas I received two sugar gliders. They are brother and sister, and I believe a little over a year old. At first I was very overwhelmed, these little guys take a lot of work and patience. Even though the lady that sold them to my boyfriend was supposedly really nice and seemed to really love these little guys. (I didn't meet her) I have started to refer to my little guys as rescues. The more I learned about gliders, the more I realized they weren't getting what they needed. The cage they came in is a cage they sell online as a starter cage for JOEYS. Only their not joeys anymore, their over a year old. Also, there were no toys at all in their cage. Other then a wheel. They had no room at all in their cage to jump around or glide to different levels or perches I'm realizing that these little guys don't even know how to play!!! I'm hoping you guys can give me some advice. I referred to this site numerous times for advice, so I decided to make an account! Right now I have all kinds of toys in their cage, but I'm thinking I need to take some beginner steps with them. Also, they are now in the "Madagascar" cage sold on exotic nutrition. I am going to get them an even bigger one soon. In which I would love to donate to another newbie on this website!!! I feel extremely passionate about these little critters and I want to give them the best life possible. I hope with the help from everyone here I can make that happen

So glad these little ones found their way to you on Christmas. They certainly needed a new loving forever home, didn't they
Gliders don't actually glider in their cages but rather jump from place to place If the shelving is still in place in their current cage, you can take it out to give them more room to jump and to make more room for toys.
I am going to move your thread to our Housing & Accessories Forum since that seems to be your main concern at this time.
If you have other concerns or questions, you can post them in those forums.
Again, so glad you are here.

To GC ! A good place to start for play might be foraging toys. Something you can put a treat in. Like a cleaned out tictac box, breath savers puck, a straw dipped in honey (one end) then bent to form a triangle and tuck one end into the other. A toy box with little trinkets,ping-pong balls, barrel of monkeys, plastic bracelets is a great place to hide a treat too. Straws woven in between the cage bars is another great toy. Hang a rubber something on a piece of fleece and tie to the too of the cage so it moves. Fleece blanket about 4" square balled up and stick it between the bars. Anything that can be tugged on, pulled apart like easter eggs with a treat inside. Maybe even a favorite fruit of veggie that part of their diet will do. I have some bug finger puppets that I play with them and stick in the bars too. Feathers are a favor too. With a stick and string it can make a fun interactive toy between you and them. You mentioned they came with a wheel. What kind of wheel? Where you see blue words, you can click on them and they will take you to that topic so you can read more. Please ask if you anymore questions. Glad you're here!

No worries on posting in "Help I'm New". Karen moved this topic so you would get more exposure in Housing.
