Hi, Im new to the site and expecting two suggies next month and Ive done plenty of research, and Im aware protein is needed in their diet . Im planning to follow the The Pet Glider Pet Glider Fresh diet , Id fulfill the protein portion with chicken/turkey or other meats. Im also gonna make sure to provide all other aspects and also the vitamin/ calcium too.

Bugs are not necessary, there are many other sources of protein you are able: Chicken, turkey are good. You can also serve eggs (boiled or scrambled) or yogurt.

Hutch is correct, bugs are not necessary. I feed them rarely, it is more of a special treat in my house for them to get meal worms.

Thank you guys so much. I'll definitely be keeping bugs limited to treats. If I have an option to avoid bugs I will, haha. One more question, when bugs are fed, do they need to be alive, or can they be dead bugs, like ones that are given to bearded dragons?

I use canned bugs frequently when I feed bugs with no problems. As long as they smell of food, they'll become food.

Actually, sugar gliders require very LOW amounts of protein. Too much protein over time can/have cause kidney issues.

I do not offer any bugs at all. Havent for years. There is more fat in the bugs we offer than protein, plus they already have plenty of protein in their staple.

I will buy 500 crickets, then put them straight into the freezer. Once frozen I put them into a Tupperware container. It doesn't take long for a few to defrost and my gliders love them.
