I've heard they are bad. Gliders nails and toes can get caught in the little slits in the plastic. There is something called a Run-a-bout that's very similar to a wheel but can be used on the floor like a hamster ball. You can buy them at the link below or there are instructions out there on how to make one. I'm going to try and make one here soon. http://www.spinzoneglobal.com/Run-a-bout_p_36.html

If you want them to safely explore the house, I recommend the Run about also.
The hamster balls are not designed with the sugar glider in mind. Besides their toes possibly getting injured it is to small for the way a glider runs or should I say leaps.

I think, like Feather said, in addition to the risk of glider nails and toes being caught in a hamster ball, gliders don't really run around on the floor the way that rodents do. At least mine doesn't - he hops/bounces along when he is on the ground and usually goes looking for something to climb or hide in. I could see a hard plastic ball hurting them if they tried to jump around. Doesn't seem like they'd really use it either. The Run-about looks fun! I think Fevy would be extremely unhappy, but I am tempted to buy one to see what he'd do. Another good idea is getting a tent or glider proofing a room (like the bathroom) to have free roaming bonding time in. That way you don't have to worry about them getting into mischief.
