I have a stealth wheel and I know people use sandpaper on the outside of the wheel to help keep nails trimmed but I am wondering if this is safe? I haven't used them before as I didn't want to damage their pads but I have also read that it isn't so much of an issue with stealth wheels as it is with other types where the strip goes on the inside of the wheel. I usually just trim their nails myself but last time I tried to trim the girls' nails, they were NOT having it. It was a battle and their nails grow so fast. I tried doing it with a pouch like I usually do but they fought me the whole time and weren't interested in the treats, they just wanted me to quit messing with them..
If they still cause damage even with a stealth wheel, I don't want to try using them though. Opinions or experiences?

I guess it does help a bit, but it also holds in the poop and pee.

I prefer to trim nails.

There is a nail trimming kit out there, where you get a mesh pouch and a trimmer.
Their little nails stick out of the mesh and you are able to trim the nails.

It may help a bit to use the sandpaper, however, to avoid hurting the pads of their feet, it is imperative the paper be put on the outside of the wheel. Some people think putting it on the inside with get quicker results shakehead Bad idea.

Putting live branches in their enclosure is also a good way to help them keep their nails naturally trimmed.

Thanks Feather, I never thought about a mesh pouch! I will look into that.. I didn't think about catching poop and pee either. Definitely don't want to ADD to the list of stuff I have to clean lol
