I have this cage for long trips, and a pop up kennel for when we get there. I place this cage ( with the door open )inside the pop up (on it's side), and add their wheel in it's stand. It gives them things to do and explore the outside of the smaller cage. http://m.petsmart.com/h5/hub?id=supplies...var_id=36-14481I tossed the tunnel wheel and water bottle. The biggest drawback of this cage is the door. It's hard to get them in there while in sleeping pouch without being disturbed. I use fleece cut to fit the bottom, as it doesn't have a floor grate. I feel better about them in the backseat buckled into something a bit more significant than a collapsable carrier. If for no other reason than luggage/stuff shifting around them. I haven't made a cover for it, I just cover with a fleece blanket to keep the sun and draft away. They didn't have this one instock or I would have gotten it. The door is on the top. I would toss all the stuff that it comes with except the shelf. http://m.petsmart.com/h5/hub?id=supplies%2Fcages%2Fgrreat-choice-hamster-starter-kit-zid36-20376%2Fcat-36-catid-600022%3Fvar_id%3D36-20376 as far as the reptarium and home made cages, they will be back for discussion soon I'm sure. Vacation time is just around the corner... I think Karen (owner) used reptarian cages at one time-she might still use them. Hopefully she can give you some insight.

I personally have one of those Glide-Ariums for a vacation cage. It served my trio well for vacations and even cross-country moves (2x) so far.
Lives with: 1 God 1 dog, (Willow) 1 Sugie, (Ollie) R.I.P. Lulu (2/28/12-10/13/17) R.I.P. Skadoosh (2/28/12-3/26/18)

I had seen the first one but not the second! Is the pet screen that the second one links still glider safe?

ok that's great! Do you know if I can basically use any PVC-coated polyester mesh? As you can probably tell, I'm a worry wart and I want to make sure my suggies are safe and happy! Does anybody know of any in-depth tutorials for these things? I can probably figure it out myself but it would definitely be helpful to have a tutorial If not, does anyone know what size PVC pipe to use? I know that if it's too skinny it probably won't be stable enough, but of course too thick would be too bulky.

I believe the repts are made of 1" PVC, and they are plenty stable.
Why don't you contact Dallie who actually makes the Glide-arium and also has an ad in Glider Things

There is a big difference between a PVC cage and a reptarium/glide-arium. With the rept/glide-arium the screens can be put in the washer to clean. They cannot with the PVC constructed ones like this tutorial.
That is what you would have found had the link not been frozen on Shelly's page rather than the glide-arium instructions.

I think you have been more than clear that you want to build/make your own rept type enclosure. It won't make any difference at this point if you edit your original post
We have been equally clear the rept mesh that was used six plus years ago is not available any longer which is basically the reason the Glide-ariums came into being.
All of the tutorials I have seen were for PVC type enclosures like I posted the link for earlier in this thread.
The tutorial for the DIY rept from Shelly's web page that no longer exists was pre Glide-arium and that person is no longer a vendor.
What you are asking for we cannot give you. It simply is not in a google search, or I have not been able to find it.
We understand what you want, but you will have to figure it out or find an alternative.

I thought I was more than clear as well but *shrug* I got a third suggestion to purchase one anyway. I realize that you have no more information, but I have had different specific question with each reply, so I wasn't really repeating myself. What wasn't clear was that you were saying the mesh was no longer available, which sounded like it was the supplier of the mesh itself and therefore nobody could make homemade reptariums anymore with safe mesh, but I realized that was incorrect. Thanks for trying, anyway. I was waiting around hoping someone else knew anything besides people who want to guard their business secrets even though with more research I've figured out it's cheaper to buy one from the only vendor than try to make one myself. I will probably be able to figure this out by myself anyway, but I thought that if anybody had knowledge to share, they would probably be here, and it would be better and safer to ask people with experience than try to go it alone. I also realize that this was no simple google search. If it were, I wouldn't have posted here asking for the knowledge and expertise of fellow glider owners.

With the rept/glide-arium the screens can be put in the washer to clean. Wow I did not know they were machine washable! I was scanning their website for how to clean and didn't find any info. Nice to know! I'm going over to the website and ask more questions I have! ( I guess I should have done that first.) I wasn't considering one of these untill this was posted. Thanks Karen!

I thought I had referenced this archived thread explaining why the new mesh on the reptariums was no longer safe for gliders, but apparently I did not. The repts all of us were using were before this mesh change.
I ordered one just to see the difference, and it was indeed a very big difference. It might not have made a difference for my gliders since none were chewers, but still I would not have used it. It came with strings hanging everywhere, and really did not fit the frame for the size screen I ordered.
For a time after than people made the PVC enclosures until the Glide-ariums came along. I do not remember anyone making (although they may have) DIY repts prior to the Glide-ariums.
Hope that helps clear things up.

I did find colored mesh that is pet safe. https://www.metroscreenworks.com/shop/in...=20a&page=2It can be ordered by the yard, 54" wide or the roll. I haven't checked on shipping. Just thought you'd like to know.

Ok I didn't read the entire thread.... BUT. I use a pop up clothes hamper with the zipper top. I cut PVC to make the hamper hold its shape (so its doesn't want to collapse when gliders all climb to the top. I have used this for transport, and over night travels. It has worked great for me when the fuzzies had to come with me.
